Craig Roh update from Fred Roh.
I spoke with Craig Roh's father, Fred, today. He gave me an update about what Craig has been up to, and how he has improved with regards to football.
Craig is very involved with Campus Crusade, and Athletes in Action on campus. "He's down in New Orleans right now with those two groups on a mission trip. They're helping out with Katrina, cleaning up, and I believe they're helping build a house," Fred told me. Craig has been there since this past saturday, and Fred expects him back this weekend.
Roh has always been a good student, and always been very motivated to help the community. "He's been involved with a lot of these organizations on campus, and a little more involved with Athletes in Action. He got pretty involved over the summer, he's always been very into his religion, and just always been a good student. He was working last summer with a few mentor type things, too. I know they do a lot of local type services, and this is the first time he's gone out on a trip like this," said Fred.
Spring practice is coming soon, and Craig has also made it a point to stay focused with his improvement on the field as well. "He's up to 255 now. He ended the season at 240, so he's already gained about 15 pounds. The coaches said they want him at 255, or maybe 260. He's had tremendous increases in all his exercises, too. I don't know the exact numbers, by I know he's increased his bench, squat, and everything else,"
Injury seemed to plague a lot of the team this past season, and that included Craig, as well. "He got three stingers throughout the season in his neck, so he couldn't do any upper body stuff. It was really after the Illinois game that he couldn't do any of the upper body workouts during the season. As soon as the season was over, he rehabbed the nerve, and is ready to go. It's hard to activate the muscle the right way with nerve problems, so it was difficult for him during the season. He's good to go now, though," said Fred. "Everyone was concerned about his size last year, and I don't think that will be the case this year."

I have a serious man-crush on DeathRoh. I can't wait to see him in action this year and it looks like things are going well for him. Way to represent!
going to say anything first, but now that you have, I'll admit it; I feel the same. I wouldn't say it's serious, but I think that kid is awesome. Every time I see something about DeathRoh, I just kind of get this feeling that this is what Michigan is SUPPOSED to be like, from the dominance and work ethic on the field, to the sheer class off of it, to the obvious family support and care. When RR recruited Craig, we didn't just get him, we got the whole Roh family. That is so full of massive amounts of win, that I honestly just used that phrase.
Unfortunately, the media refuses to show the hard work that Rich Rod's guys are putting in. It's always the negatives from those that didn't like him to begin with.
His eye brows are just dreamy!
Proud to have him as a Michigan Wolverine.
Thanks Freddie, It's refreshing to see a father and son that are so close. Craig seems like a very well rounded student athlete, and one that others should look up to! Can't wait for Saturdays this fall.
Is it the end of August yet??
when he was 7.
my favorite player.
Wow. At 260, he could be quite the disruptive force. Keep it up!
I appreciate hearing some of who Roh is and what he's doing beyond the football field. Apart from a post like this, I wouldn't have a clue about him, or any other players.
It reminds me that a team is made up of all different kinds of individuals, with different interests and character traits. Having said that, it's great hearing good stories like this about current guys on the team.
he assist with circumscions in the Phillipines? I keed. I keed. Good for Craig. The team, university, and obviously his parents can be proud. Looking for more big things from him this fall.
This kid really has his act together, great stuff. Plz recruit many more like him, kthnx.
...is being chronicled by Ben Cronin at mgoblue.com. See this link for the details.
The photo gallery definitely shows Roh is bigger than last year.
It looks like Cronin went so they wouldn't have to bring a ladder. Damn that kid is tall. It's sucks that his hip exploded. He would have been a good space eater on the bball team.
man I'm already missing Zolton jokes.
Roh looks like 1 bad ass cowboy with that beard and cowboy hat on in the 1 pic.
character actor Steve Zahn on the left?
nah thats Charlie Tweeder from Varsity Blues.
I wish I could mow lawns with Craig Roh...
roh definitely bulked up in image 3/11. i dont know how he fit into that navy block 'M'hoodie.
I love that he'll only be a true Soph. I'm already excited to see him at work this season let alone as a Senior.
Is there anyway possible the Freep can turn this story into a negative??
Roh blows off school, RR conspires to keep him eliegible while he parties in New Orleans!!!
there is the "Roh Capitalizes on Plight of Katrina Victims" angle, pioneered after last year's Football Bust. Or they could highlight the large number of unpummelled nerds roaming Ann Arbor (in startk contrast with EL).
Would that be a herd of nerds?
nerds are somewhat like owls: generally nocturnal, somewhat uncomfortable socially; I guess I'd go with "wisdom"; a "parliament of nerds" makes no sense to me.
Usage: the coffee house was empty until a wisdom of nerds descended to watch Jeopardy reruns.

"As if it wasn't enough that last year he sometimes had to work 20 extra minutes a week on football related activities, this summer Rich Rodriguez has tricked the unwitting Craig Roh and forced him to go on a Crusade. Thus, he sent him to New Orleans, where he was forced into manual labor. Meanwhile, Rodriguez still denies forcing his students to attended their classes last summer."

These are the kind of interviews/stories I wish local media outlets like the Freep would report on...sadly we all know there is no chance of that.
That said, keep up the good work off the field and in the weight room Craig, can't wait to see you do work on the field in 2010.
Are you sure THIS guy was recruited to Michigan by Rich Rodriguez? I though Rich only recruits thugs and evil people? Couldn't be.
Seriously. This is cool to hear. I like to be able to like the guys who don the winged helmets. Plus, it explains how difficult the end of the season must have been for the guys like Roh who battled injuries and the mounting defeats. Go Death Roh. GO Blue.
He looked thicker in the pics from New Orleans with Cronin. I can't wait to see him on the field again. I'm still amazed that he won the starting spot as a true freshman fall enrollee. I doubt that happens much.
Always nice to see updates on what our players are up to this offseason. The Rohs, both Craig and his dad are good people.
I love you. In the non-creepy way.
Warm Fuzzies,
BW
Best friends on one!
Best friends...
...calling him DeathRoh, now. I mean, the guys a model student athlete. TomVH, what does his father think of the nickname?
Suge Knight wasn't phi beta kappa?
*resisting the urge to make "phi betta cap ya" joke*
Would you prefer Front Roh? EscRoh? Rohmance? Miracle Roh? Roh-bi wan Kenobi? Al Roh-ker? Easy Come Easy Roh?
I could keep Roh-ing...
"I want to Roh there."
"I want to Roh to there"
(I've watched 2 full seasons in the 2 weeks or so, needed a fix during the Olympic break)
I'm just finishing season 3. That show is hilarious.
I don't know why, but the show makes me feel like a little kid. Maybe that's because whenever I watch shows, they're grown-up and/or serious like "Dexter" or "The Sopranos" or "Deadwood." There just aren't many good sit-coms on anymore, other than "30 Rock" and "The Office."
Modern Family is also solid. Better Off Ted just got canceled, but is good too.
Now that this thread has digressed into TV shows, I'll suggest one for you colin. I see you like Sealab (amazing show, but better before Capt Murphy's voice guy died), you'll like Friskey Dingo. Check it out, it's made by the same people.
so i've seen Frisky Dingo a bajillion times. got both seasons on DVD, too. Archer is also an Adam Reed/Matt Thompson show.
I really like Modern Family. I thought it was going to be incredibly stupid when I saw the promos, but it's very funny.
and then undercut the sap unexpectedly. it's a smart show.
I just think of The Jetson's dog Astro when I read Roh-bi wan kenobi and Easy Come Easy Roh.
..."ruh-Roh Reorge."
I was using "ruh-Roh" in my best Scooby voice all last year.Got on the wifes nerves a bit.
:)
I did the same, with similar irritation from my spouse.
Poor guys. Last year, my wife was the one doing the "Ruh-Roh"
Full Disclosure: She really liked the Jetsons when she was little.
