Aubrey Dawkins transferring to UCF
I would relaly like to know that. I do not think an ivy league guard is a "no risk" option.
I dont recall typing that the ivy transfer was "no risk."
i see nobody out there who is. certainly not some guy who plays at COLUMBIA, which is arguably the biggest joke of an athletic program in all of division one
Two. Hip. Surgeries.
shut it down in time to redshirt because he simply had not recovered yet. He probably should not have played this year at all but with the scholarship situation I don't think he knew for sure whether he would have another opportunity to play. Players recover from surgery all the time. There is no reason to believe that he can never play at a high level again.
he flat out said he was retiring from basketball. he only recently decided to pursue further basketball options. it's a smart move. at a minimum he gets another free year of college, even if it turns out he can't play.
working hips does said grad transfer have? If the answer is one or more, he just might be the better option.
He had two hip surgeries !!! He is still rehabbing. Rivals guys have stated it would be quite difficult to come back and be the same player he was.
Again, I like Spike, but we want to win basketball games we should use our scholarships on athletes that can help us win basketball games.
Spike is Michigan and Michigan is Spike...hes a team Leader and seeing him in any other uniform other than Michigan is just unthinkable...whether he ever even steps foot on the court or not is irrelevant..If he has another year left it should be wearing a MICHIGAN uniform
This is why you are not a highly successful and well paid coach of a sporting team.
couldn't move the next year, and then the next year he was very good for Indiana. Spike will be in the exact same situation. Beilein himself said that he was shocked how much better Max looked this year. Is he really going to make the exact same mistake one year later - the EXACT. SAME. MISTAKE???
Looks like it!
That's a whole lot of assumptions, my man.
Hey, I hope they all come true, but I'm not betting a Michigan Basketball scholarship on it is all I'm saying.
ok. I'd prefer to bet it on spike.
Sure. That Ivy League guard is currently physically capable of playing basketball at a D-1 level. If he were sitting on the bench with a cast on his leg I would say it isn't worth it. I don't think my line of thinking is too difficult to follow.
He just can't play very well right now, and it hurts him to do it. In 7 months, in my opinion, there is a more than 50% chance he will be helluva lot better than some ivy league rando.
ya, you are a doctor and you are watching spike rehab.
It's a scholarship for one year, occupying a spot that is currently open, and for which there will likely be no compelling fit -- especially on a team bringing back everybody that just went to the tournament.
It basically costs the program nothing to take Spike back for another year and see what happens. The goodwill is worth something, too. This is more of a freeroll than a bet where we have something to lose. I'm boggled as to why it would be out of the question.
That is a ridiculous comparison. Spike played basketball at a high level at michigan for several years. He had some hip surgeries which take time to recover from, and how he will have had time to recover from. He will most likely be a very good player next year at a position of need. This makes no damn sense. It is the second year in a row we are doing something stupid and dumb and insane for no reason. I don't know how you people can watch this happen and not lose your shit.
But if he is starting to feel the heat, how can you warrant spending a scholarship on Spike? He hasn't played a competitive game in over a year - and he RETIRED. You need to consider that as an indicator of his long-term health - i.e. just a few months ago, Spike himself didn't think he would ever play college basketball again. How is that a good option for a 1 year scholarship?
Obvious disclaimer that I love Spike and I'd be happy to see him on the team, but I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays another game.
You're drawing a lot of conclusions from very little information.
unfortunately their roster management has proven, time and time again, to be not trustworthy, most recently with the very similar max bielfeldt situation. but by all means, don't draw any conclusions.
Many were saying offering a 4 year scholarship to an unheralded, lightly recruited player, was bad roster management. Beilein can't bring back a guy with injury issues to be insurance in the event of injury. They have yet to determine what Spike will be able to do, how soon he'll be able to do it and how many minutes he'll require. Maybe this develops over time to be all good but the decision is being made while all of these things are questions.
Do you have any personal knowledge about Spike's health beyond what has been reported?
Obvious completely different situation is pretty obvious, no?
I wish I didn't have to actually explain this in words and you could just "get it," but I guess here we go:
Austin Hatch had a horrible tragedy happen to him. He was nearly killed. His entire family was actually killed. We gave him a token scholarship even after assuming that he would never play again. We did this for "goodwill" or whatever you want to call it because Coach isnt a complete fucking monster.
Spike ... had hip surgery seemingly because his hips don't work well... and may not be able to play again.
That is what makes these two entirely different situations. I mean you understand that, right?
to answer before bringing him back. Can he play at anywhere near his former level? Is it a good idea for him to even try? Michigan's medical staff knows a lot more about that than anyone on the outside looking in. If the answers are yes, I'm in favor of bringing him back, even if one of the transfer candidates may add a little more.
against purdue. He hurt his foot and was lost for the season. They cleared mitch to play with a back, lost for the season. They cleared walton to play on a bad foot, lost for the season. Don't care what they say at all. Don't trust them at all.
Dont vaccinate your kids, folks.
Doctors are dumb.
Science is dumb.
Profit.
Best of luck to him.

No. They need top tier talent, not a swing on a low-rated under-the-radar type. Take a grad transfer like that kid from Columbia and call it a day for 2016.

It would be impressive if he graduated from there in three years though.
