OT: Pistons get Tobias Harris for Brandon Jennings and Ilyasova
I think this is a great trade. We essentially get Harris for Ilyasova, as BJ was going to leave in free agency anyway.
Also important: Harris is 23, we gave up no foundational pieces or picks, and our defensive flexibility is improved, as he can guard 2-4 well. He has a big contract, but it decreases every year and he has a very unique skill set.
Jackson
KCP
Harris
Morris
Drummond
Our 2-4 can swtich defensively, and that should be a huge improvement. Now to get a couple bench pieces in the offseason and we are cooking.

This is probably much better value for a player with this much potential and room to grow than we would've gotten in free agency comparitively.

My dream (offseason) pickup was Al Horford. He would be a literal perfect fit on this roster playing next to Drummond. While Anderson would have cost a lot, he certainly fits what SVG is trying to do more than Harris does. Harris and Morris are both tweeners who arent quite a SF or PF and neither has a reliable shot. It will be interesting to see if both stay on the roster; especially with Stanley continuing to improve and being a more ideal fit at the 3.

Another 3/4 that can't shoot. 32% from 3 for his career, but not big enough to guard the few teams that play 2 posts. Meanwhile you trade Ilyasova who is a 37% shooter from 3 and 6'10". Harris is 23 and Ilyasova is 28, so I guess there is that, but Harris has a big contract as stated above and we already spent our first pick on Stanley Johnson, who has to play the 3, because he is too small to play the 4 and not enough of a shooter to play the 2. And I forgot about Morris. They are turning in to the NBA version of OSU, bunch of tweeners that can't shoot.

Harris he was being compared to.... Josh Smith. Better get ready for some ill-advised jumpshots.

Don't care about Jennings, but I'll miss Ilyasova.
BTW, it looks like the Pistons are getting a new logo next season:

I like it. A combination of the current wordmark and old school Bad Boys logo.

Didn't the article say that this was a fan mockup? Don't get my hopes up! This logo would be great though, and I really hope their uniforms follow suit with the retro styling.

It's a fan mockup using the O logo from this Pistons ad. From what I've heard, the decision is already made. They'll just wait until the draft to unveil it.

Strongly disliked the Pistons logo for years now. I just hate it, the cartoonish lettering, the generic basketball. I am really hoping with the NBA changing over to Nike that the Pistons would get a new logo and uniforms. The one posted is actually pretty solid, old school with a modern twist on the lettering. Anything is better than what they currently have....unless you put a random horse and exhaust pipes in it....

It looks even better on a blue background.
There are a lot of people that like this one, but I was never a fan of the horse logos.
PS-Now we just need the Lions to drop the black accents and bring back the Barry Sanders era Honolulu Blue and Silver.

You're right. It looks amazing with the blue background.

I hope this is true. The current logo doesn't do it for me. If you're going to have a round, red-white-and-blue logo, why not just use the traditional one?

might be available as he has been glued to the bench for OKC the last few weeks. I thought he was a really good fit for SVGs system before he was traded.

DJ would be a great addition for this team. He and Drummond fit nicely last year when Jennings went out.

Apparently Harris is coming in to play the 4 for us. Value wise it makes sense, but it is going to be a pretty big blow to floor spacing. Take your best 3 point shooter off the roster and replace him with another brick layer. Pistons really need to find some guys who can consistently hit a spot up shot.

While I agree with this we still have that spacing issue. Monroe was a better scorer than Ilyasova but when everyone on the court prefers to play in the same area it gets clogged and hard to score. We have a drive first attack the rim point guard in Reggie. A doesnt-leave-the-post-ever type in Andre. Marcus & Stanley arent great shooters. KCP's midrange game is evolving but he is still an extremely streaky outside shooter.
Harris seems like a rich mans version of Morris to me. Morris has a really favorable contract moving forward but I just don't see him as a good fit going into next season with Harris now on board.
February 16th, 2016 at 3:04 PM ^
Seems like an odd trade to pick up Harris. Harris isnt much of a spread the floor type of guy and is known to shoot a lot of bad shots. I think they were better off trying to get Anderson, even if he's a Free Agent next year.
February 16th, 2016 at 3:12 PM ^
Harris, 23, averaged 13.7 points and seven rebounds this season while shooting 31.1 percent from 3-point range in 49 games for Orlando under first-year coach Scott Skiles. The versatile 6-foot-9, 235-pounder, who can play both forward positions, signed a four-year, $64 million deal last off-season. Harris’ scoring average and 3-point percentage have dropped from a season ago, when he averaged 17.1 points and 36.4 percent shooting from 3-point range.
IDK, seems strange to go and get a career 31% 3-pt shooter in a league that is emphasizing spacing and versatility at the 4. If he is a 3 he is just a bad 3 pt shooter at a position the league is emphasizing great shooters. At 4, Morris is the starter (who by the way has 35% career 3 pt shooting) so Harris is a backup at 4. Seems like a lot of money to spend on a backup.

you rang?
February 16th, 2016 at 3:22 PM ^
But our backcourt is really thin now. I'm pretty sure Reggie Jackson was banged up before the break also. I have a feeling SVG made this move more for the future and that potential move to downtown Detroit than this season. Unless there's another move to shore up the backup PG or SG spots, this team will still have trouble.
February 16th, 2016 at 3:34 PM ^
This is a good move if you think young Harris has a lot more upside than established Ilyasova. Personally I think Harris can do more and has room to grow into an above average wing player at either SF or PF.

I think Ilyasova is a very solid player. Heard that Markeiff Morris was a real possibility but that may be off the table now. He needs a change of scenery and is more of a power forward. Reuniting with his brother would be really good. Oh well. Still need a guard imo.

That's a great trade. Harris is a really solid forward, and his contract isn't terrible with the new CBA in place. Jennings was gone, and Ilyasova is a good forward, but he's 5 years older and isn't as dynmaic a player.

Detroit won this trade imo.
My one concern is now with Harris at the 3, how does this affect Stanley Johnson and his minutes now? He has been looking great and has been a super quality lottery pick.

No idea who any of those people are. I loved the Pistons in teh Bad Boys and Bad Boys II eras, but haven't watched them at all in a few years. I have become the epitome of a fair weather NBA fan. I only watch the Eastern Conference championships and finals when the Pistons are in it.
February 17th, 2016 at 2:22 AM ^
because outside of the current state of the Pistons, being an NBA fan has never been better. The quality of basketball is incredible all around the league.
