Signing Day...Never been more excited!!!
Is this the late 90's to early 2000's!? It has been a decade...literally 10 years...since I had this much excitement over Michigan Football. I can't believe the way this class is going to / could finish out. Even if we miss on Gary, we are still looking to bring other National Recruits into the fold. I can remember when the board would go crazy if we had a kid commit who had an OSU offer too. We thought we had just signed a 5 Star. Seriously, thank you Coach Harbaugh for bringing the swagger back to Michigan and making this a place where National Recruits want to come once again.

As I am not on the mobile app, I was initially very confused as to how this reply ended up here.

I'm so excited, I'm going to start an OP!!! There is a real live wolverine in Michigan!!!
Can you tell how excited I am?! I use a lot of thrilling punctuation!!!

I'll be excited to have this game of musical chairs finally conclude.
Since Harbaugh showed up there has not been a dull moment (good thing). Every time Mgoblog is slow to refresh, I go through anxiety attacks thinking another commitment or decommitment just took place.

This class is likely to end up in the 6-8 range, which puts it squarely in line with past classes. Those peak USC classes had 6-7 5 star recruits. Michigan will have one, if it gets Gary. It's a very good class, but there's a long way to go to get to the Alabama/USC level. Frankly, there's still some way to go to get to OSU's current level.

But agreed, let's not over do it here. Lots of reasons to be excited, but need to sustain top 5 classes for several years to be at the actual next level. Only a few schools are in that elite category. We are most definitely not (yet). No time to start like the present though! Go blue!

However, I don't see how the class falls to 7ish by signing day.

with 23 commits. Only the top 20 commits are counted for ranking purposes, to avoid the old Houston Nutt "sign 38 guys" strategy. We're just barely ahead of OSU and FSU, both of whom only have 18 commits, and will get a solid bump when they add two more commits. That will outweigh even replacing Michigan's 20th best commit with Gary (if that happens).
Other teams currently below Michigan include Clemson (15 total commits), Georgia (17 total commits), Alabama (16 total commits, and is Alabama), and USC (14 total commits). All of those teams have higher average star rankings than Michigan, and some or all will pass Michigan as well.
Short version, Michigan has very little room to move up, even by adding guys like Gary and Long, while other teams have much smaller classes at the moment and will jump Michigan as they fill up.

Average star ranking is what counts.
January 18th, 2016 at 1:06 PM ^
That compared other team recruiting classes that were smaller and had fewer points. He said they would pass us once their 5* recruits committed. LSU comes to mind, but I can remember the rest. Maybe alum96 posted it - good info and I'll look for it.
January 18th, 2016 at 12:04 PM ^
Do they put a zero star as your 19th and 20th commits for ranking?
I don't understand why adding a top player can help less than adding any player.

I'm more worried that if it doesn't work out with some, we won't have enough time to find other guys that we could've had in the fold.
That said, I'm sure the coaches have a plan.

#HARBAUGH has brought us back to a "level of respect" that is important to me! Michigan, as a brand (thank you DB) suffered under those that were worried about the wrong things! Having been mismanaged for a few years -- WE are on our way BACK!

If you have an erection lasting more than 3 weeks, please consult your doctor.
January 18th, 2016 at 11:48 AM ^
The one thing about that lasting three weeks and the level of vascular issues that it might entail is once the issue resolves itself - if indeed it does - you'd probably never have to worry about getting that excited about anything for a rather long time, assuming gangrene did not set in, which of course creates a whole new set of problems.

Sounds like it's time somebody got "the talk".
Ages 2 to 3: The right words for private body parts, such as "penis" and "vagina"
Ages 3 to 4: Where a baby comes from. But they won't understand all the details of reproduction—so a simple "Mom has a uterus inside her tummy, where you lived until you were big enough to be born" is fine.
Ages 4 to 5: How a baby is born. Stick with the literal response: "When you were ready to be born, the uterus pushed you out through Mommy's vagina."
Ages 5 to 6: A general idea of how babies are made. ("Mom and Dad made you.") Or if your child demands more details: "A tiny cell inside Dad called a sperm joined together with a tiny cell inside Mom called an egg."
Ages 6 to 7: A basic understanding of intercourse. You can say, "Nature [or God] created male and female bodies to fit together like puzzle pieces. When the penis and the vagina fit together, sperm, like tadpoles, swim through the penis and up to the egg." Explain what you think about sex and relationships. For instance: "Sex is one of the ways people show love for each other."
Ages 8 to 9: That sex is important, which your child has probably picked up from the media and her peers. A child this age can handle a basic explanation on just about any topic, including rape. ("Remember when we talked about sex being part of a loving relationship? Rape is when someone forces another person to have sex, and that's wrong.")
Ages 9 to 11: Which changes happen during puberty. Also be ready to discuss sex-related topics your child sees in the news.
