Iowa State's comeback win over Iowa Thursday night sent Hilton Coliseum into a frenzy, and a Des Moines Register reporter was injured as fans rushed the floor.
Randy Peterson, who covers the Cyclones for the Register, suffered an apparent compound leg fracture after No. 2 ISU's 83-82 win.

When is the last time Michigan students rushed the field?
Was it going to happen for the MSU game (sorry)?
I haven't seen it for a football game in forever....fire up the SUPER GUIDE!!!

Could have sworn last time Michigan rushed the field was 2011 against OSU... I was there.

MSU was an awful game...we were just happy to win and finally win.
2011, OSU was fucking terrible.
When's the last time we had a legitimate, highly ranked team, not upset...but you know what I mean, type field rush?
I almost feel like those two wins were expected...the only thing that didn't make them expected was that we were terrible in all of the years surrounding those wins.
Give me a beat (top 5) team and students rushed the field...B1G Championship type game. Not a "what a relief! We finally won!" type moment.

I was one of the first to hop the wall in 2003 and we ran around like rabid animals, celebrating with the players. It was awesome. I did it in 2011 too but that was extremely lame...more of an organized shuffle down onto the field.

We didn't rush the field against good teams before because we were one of the good teams.

That was 2005. 2007 was the game where Ryan Mallett flipped the ball after going into the end zone and Jake Long said something to the effect of "we don't do that at Michigan".
However, I do think that Manningham did "the worm" after the Victory Formation on the last play of the game.

They were expected. We were a 7.5-point favorite in the 2011 OSU game and a 9.5-point favorite in the '12 MSU game.

It was more like a gradual spilling from the student section, followed by everyone else looking at each other and saying "should we go? Heck, let's go."

You are correct that they rushed the field in 2011, but I'm not sure it was the last. Sitting in the north EZ, I actually thought about crossing the field to get to my tailgate at the lumberyard. In the end, I let the kids have it.

Especially after beating an unranked team.

But as the #4 team...understandable.

Didn't Iowa State beat us a year or 2 ago?

College kids having fun. As long it is done safely (which is a totally different debate) --- they can storm the court for ANY game they please, IMO.
December 11th, 2015 at 5:15 PM ^
Let's clarify some things. He was not harmed by anything that had to do with the court storming. He wasn't hit by a student. He may have been barely touched by a lady near him but by video, it looks like he pretty much went down on his own. The early media narrative was completely wrong. I don't neccearilly think the storming was justified but it was a rivalry game in which ISU trailed by 20 in the second half and they came back to win, so whatever. Kids lined up for this game on Monday and if they want to get on the court for a few minutes, let them.

The reporter in question came out and said pretty much the same thing.
The court storm (which are awesome by the way) had nothing to do with this.
December 11th, 2015 at 5:29 PM ^
"Peterson tweeted early Friday that he believed he locked legs with someone. 'I was not trampled,' he said. 'I was knocked to the ground...'"
That sure sounds like the court storm had something to do with it.

He may have gotten knocked over by a 50 year old woman. He certainly didn't get run over by a mob of students as the media would have liked you to believe. I also don't know how your leg breaks due to that contact.

A 50-year-old woman...who was storming the court. But still, no reason to ban the practice after one injury. We just need to be more careful around people with bones made of potato chips.

Tearing down the goalposts are one of the two things I miss most about sports. The other thing being the old school football intros where starters would run up to the camera wave or nod and run off.

I went to sleep thinking they pulled off a huge win. Man, I wish I did that with the Lions a week earlier.
