I believe the article hints this could be a power play to get some leverage with Bama. I wonder who made the announcement? If Pruitt's agent is the one telling everybody that he's interviewing with Michigan, then most likely a leverage move to seal the deal before he ever meets with Harbaugh.

No lose situation for Pruitt - get wined and dined and private jetted and then go back to agent and tell him to tell Bama he requires another $150K to go there to be DC.

Somewhere Les Miles' agent is smiling.

Good thing Hackett hasn't left yet. Since Harbaugh has his ear, he may be able to persuade Hackett to back the Brink's truck up to Pruitt's house and tell him to help himself, if for no other reason than to keep him from going to Alabama, and that includes Auburn now! I think your take is more realistic, though.

Well OK, maybe that's true and maybe it's not but it doesn't sound real true. Regardless, if you're Jim Harbaugh I think you can make a compelling case to an ambitious guy who maybe has designs of eventually being a head coach at an elite college program or even the NFL.

You tell him if you want an NFL job you have to prove you can succeed in cold weather.  You tell him if you want to be marketable outside of the south you have to prove you can win in different places.

Furthermore, it's not really a hard pitch.  Beyond "It's Michigan fergodsakes" homerism, this is a top 10 defense returning everything besides it's LBs and a secondary and DL loaded with NFL talent.  We also play at a slow pace which only helps defensive numbers.

Durkin flipped this one-year gig into a HC job. Pruitt can too.

It's a ripe opportunity for anyone.

Durkin wasn't even here for 12 months.  That's not a long time to be gone "from home" especially for football coaches who will end spending months on the road (in the south too!) during the offseason recruiting period.  Pruit would only have to spend some of Spring, and then August - December in Ann Arbor and then the offers will flow in.

Yeah but if his other offer is Alabama and he's from the South and doesn't want to come north then I fail to see a compelling value proposition Michigan provides here in comparison to his other offer.  I think that's why so many people are calling shenanigan's on this one and, rightly, dismissing the possibility out of hand.

Pruitt will be a HC candidate regardless of where he's a DC this year.  Working for Saban certainly wouldn't hurt in that regard either.  I guess my only concern if I were him would be Saban's control-freak nature.  Pruitt probably won't get nearly as much freedom with Alabama's defense as he will with Michigan's.

picks him up they'll travel south across the carribean, South America, Antarctica, Canada and then land in Michigan??

Edit:  my geography is a little off, plane would have to be travelling north at some point.

Why do so many people think Pruitt is so much more appealing than other candidates?  By every advanced stat, Georgia's D was worse than Michigan's last year and this year.  I agree he'd be a fine candidate, but why do people act like he's so much better than other options?  Is he that much better of a recruiter?

I'd still rather have Shannon.
