Didn't see this one coming.  Quesstions/points moving forward:

  1. This puts even more pressure on recruiting the LB position.  On the other hand, does it make the sales pitch of, "you'll get early playing time" even that much easier to make?
  2. I could be wrong, but now this means we've only got one QB in the class.  I thought Harbaugh's policy was to almost always take 2 QBs in the class.  Do we think we have a shot at a solid 2nd QB?  Or due to the urgent need for FB/LB types (and a pretty full roster at QB right now), might we not do a 2 QB class this year in favor of opening up an extra slot for a FB/LB type?
  3. I'd be very curious to know to what extent is our staff proactive vs. reactive when news like this happens.  Did Vic decommit, therefore we are now scrambling even harder to get our LB (and possibly a 2nd QB) kids to come?  Or do we feel like we've gotten some some solid recent positive developments from our top LB (and possibly a 2nd QB) recruit, to the point where we told Vic about this development, thus creating his decommitment?

I think these are pretty good questions and if you don't mind I'll give you my thoughts...

1. I think that selling point was pretty easy anyway but I wonder... With this staff are they selling early playing time? We know what this staff is about, "The team, the team, the team"... "Compete, compete, compete". I think the answer to your questions is yes, but I wonder if they phrase anything that way.

2. I think we stick with just Peters becuase of O'Korn. That will work like two QB's and you have two redshirts as well. I also think you are right about need at other spots but it wouldn't surprise me if he found someone else. We know that QB is the most important postion on the roster.

3. With two visits in such short time I have to think the staff had a feeling. Hard to look someone in the face and not get the feeling they could be leaving. I guess time will tell. It seems we won't really know how great this class will be until after the new year.

he won't play QB for Cal either.  Cal is just willing to humor him and let him try out at QB at first before moving him back to whatever position he will eventually end up playing.

Pretty hard for Harbaugh to do that with a straight face given that he runs a pro-set and has O'Korn and Peters already.  He's said several times that he's honest with kids.  Telling this guy that he had any shot of being QB here would have been pretty much a lie.

Unfortunate, but honesty doesn't always win you every battle.  You just have to hope it wins you the war.

Ugh, that sucks so much.  I was a really big fan of his based on what I'd seen online, thought he was going to be a great asset to the team.  Oh well, best of luck, and glad Harbuagh was honest with him about playing time and position, so he could go somewhere he has a chance to succeed at what he wants to do.  As much as I'm bummed we won't be seeing Vicious Vic in maize and blue, this sounds like it was best for both parties in the long run.

position-related switches is that quite often it's a matter of honesty. Not saying that's the case here but in general that seems to happen a lot.

We've seen it so many times that a guy ends up going with a team where they promise him a shot at his desired position only to tell the guy eventually that he should probably switch positions if he wants to see the field. No coach can or will promise definitely that the guy will play at a certain position, they usually just say stuff like "we'll give you a shot at the position and you can earn it" and tailor their pitch that way. And if the coaches are clever they can even engineer that in such a way that the kid realizes the 'error' in his thinking himself and isn't even mad about it.

He reminds me of Josh Nesbitt with his power. Not exactly the yellow brick road to the NFL but Nesbitt and Justin Thomas were(are) stars who won(win).

To play FB or LB. but he wants to play QB or RB. He was visibly upset this weekend at a football camp we saw him at. He was really bummed out.

I understand he wants to play QB, but we also have a national POY finalist in the same class. Too bad, he definitely looked like a Harbaugh type kid. Good luck. Go Blue
