CFP rooting interests?
With Michigan not able to win the championship, typically I turn to trying to figure out what would be the least worst thing to happen instead. So to help with rooting interests this weekend:
Of the options below - who would be the least bad?
1. Clemson (12-0)
2. Alabama (11-1)
3. Oklahoma (11-1)
4. Iowa (12-0)
5. Michigan State (11-1)
6. Ohio State( 11-1)
7. Stanford (10-2)
8. Nobody. If Michigan's not gonna win it, nobody should. Hope for every team to have some type of disqualifying event.
I'm thinking:
- Not MSU or OSU, because - obviously.
- Not Alabama. Saban wins enough. Competition for recruits.
- Not Stanford. They have 2 losses, that doesn't seem right. And they're Harbaugh's old team.
- So Clemson, Oklahoma or Iowa...
- I think Clemson's coach's face looks stupid - so not Clemson.
- Not Oklahoma, because I'm fine with the Big12 never getting any respect.
- IOWA?? Yep, I'm going with Iowa as the least worst thing. The added bonus is it helps the BigTen and every time I think of "Iowa" and "Championship" in my mind, I laugh a little.
What say you?

I wish I could say that, but I'll be extremely pissed if MSU or OSU wins it. And I won't be too happy if Saban gets another one. At this point I'm rooting for Clemson but I won't be upset if Oklahoma or Iowa get it.
I mentioned this in another thread but I'm betting MSU moneyline for the rest of the year in hopes I can jinx them and knock them out. If not, I'll at least make a little cash...

Iowa or Clemson. I'm sick of OSU, MSU and Bama. Plus I live in Oklahoma so I don't want to hear it from them either.

Dabo Swinney agrees that this is a valid reason to root for Clemson....

My parents retired to the Clemson area, Upstate South Carolina is beautiful and their fanbase is great.
If Michigan isn't in the mix, I gotta root for Clemson, my sister cuts Dabo's wife's hair and she says they are some of the most genuine people one could ever hope to meet.

Yes. There's no way Iowa's going to win it all, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if Iowa beats State. Someone besides Tommy Armstrong has to know how vulnerable their secondary is, right? BEAT HARD seems good enough to exploit that.

This is the best case for us. B1G gains more national respect with back to back champs. Iowa is not stealing our croots. Bama loses. By necessity, this would mean MSU lost tomorrow. Iowa > Clemson in the NCG.
December 4th, 2015 at 12:10 PM ^
I will cheer for Iowa, Clemson and (gasp) Alabama. I don't want to see Sparty or OSU make it to the playoff this year.

Clemson or Iowa because of recruiting. We tend to go after different players.

Alabama to #1, Iowa #2, Oklahoma #3, and UNC #4 with UNC knocking out Bama, Iowa beating Oklahoma close, and having a RIDICULOUS National Championship game of UNC and Iowa.

I'd rather see Iowa also, in that I can't Sparty or the Buckeyes.
Alabama is the team I'd like to play the least. Their defense is downright scary and they could easily win the whole thing.
December 4th, 2015 at 11:01 AM ^
I'm Ok with any of Clemson, Oklahoma, and my new home Iowa. I have always liked Stoops, and think he got kind of bad rep in Oklahoma recently, so they might be 1a.
Everybody else can go Lions themselves.

Ok what happens if Clemson or Alabama lose Saturday sending OSU and the Big Ten Championship game winner to the CFP. That would then send the loser of Big Ten Championship to Rose? Does this leave a spot one in the NY6 Bowls for Big Ten?

My rooting preference is for whichever team destroys Sparty. Really don't care if it's the first or second game, as long as I can see Cook's smug face turned upside down.
December 4th, 2015 at 11:03 AM ^
Im rooting for the following..
1.Iowa over MSU...eliminates both MSU and probably OSU
2.Clemson over NC..Eliminates OSU and prob moves M up a spot in ranking when NC loses
3. Alabama over UF...keeps OSU hopes dead
4 USC over Stanford..prob moves M up one more spot in the rankings
5.Texas over Baylor..Moves M up one
If somehpw someway M could rise to 11 that might be enuf for a NY6 bowl...there are 11 spots available to the top 11 ranked teams plus non Power 5 team

Pretty much spot on. Primary objective -- keep OSU out. Secondary objective -- keep Big Ten in, preferably with Iowa the rep.
I'll add -- USC over Stanford means the Pac-12 has nobody even in the playoff conversation. I heard too much "The Pac-12 is the best conference" crap earlier this season.

Iowa. They are Big Ten and not a rival. Easy.

those people have to live their lives surrounded by nothing but corn and emptiness. They deserve something nice once in a while. Also, that means they bitchslapped MSU on Saturday, which is what all of us need to see happen.

Just moved out here in August. It is actually not different at all from the west side of Michigan. Other than, you know, the lack of lakes. Good breweries, good hockey, and they are a people who don't hate Michigan.
I say this not to argue, because the point remains valid. They need to bitchslap sparty.

I think Clemson's coach's face looks stupid - so not Clemson
When you start typing this, might be an indicator that your post is not going so well.

Man, am i the only one who determines arbitrary rooting interests based on the physical appearance of the team's coach?
It was a joke. sort of.

Clemson, Florida, Iowa, Stanford. Those 4 winning may tear the space-time continuum. I'd much rather see Stanford in than 2 B1G teams at the expense of the SEC.
Stanford and Florida winning big would be better than Christmas morning.

Would depend on if the committee likes 2 loss Pac-12 champion over 1 loss team who didn't win conference. I tend to think OSU would get in because they are defending champs and have been getting benefit of the doubt all year from the committee.
December 4th, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
Also not a guarantee Bama drops out of top 4 if they lose a squeaker to Florida. I would assume they would but at the end of the day it's still Bama.

For playoffs, I'd like to see Oklahoma win it all as I think them and Bama are the two best and don't want to see Bama win another championship. My preferred order to win the playoffs that is realistic is: Oklahoma, Clemson, Iowa, Bama, Stanford, MSU, OSU

Iowa must win tomorrow night! The holidays with the MSU grads in my family are going to suck if they are in the playoffs.
Sadly, I think Sparty rolls them tomorrow, Iowa is a fraud, they have played exactly 3 teams with a winning record this season. Sparty has played 7 including 3 in the top 16.
December 4th, 2015 at 11:13 AM ^
Iowa vs Oklahoma, and Iowa winning it all.
But, I see Saban and Bama winning it all this year.
December 4th, 2015 at 11:17 AM ^
(At least this week)
- Not MSU or OSU, because - obviously.
- Not Alabama. Saban wins enough.
Rooting against Bama & OSU is mutually exclusive this weekend unless you thread the needle.
If 18 point underdog Florida somehow beats Bama in their 4PM game, then OSU moves up from double-deck to the on-deck circle w/ Stanford only a 4 point favorite in their 8PM game standing in the way of an OSU playoff berth.
DO.NOT.WANT.
December 4th, 2015 at 11:24 AM ^
I agree with this. It would be crushing if both of MSU and OSU made the playoff. Therefore I will root for anything that will make it tougher for OSU/MSU to get in.
Iowa over MSU
Stanford over USC
Clemson/Alabama to win
In terms of the playoff itself, I will likely just root for good close game with crazy finishes.

to PAC12 Champion Stanford instantly vaults them over Ohio State.
Methinks Stanford is behind Ohio State at present, because, just like Ohio State, they aren't a conference champion at present.
