There were MANY Lloyd Carr 5th year seniors on the team. You'll find that outside of Denard these were some very important pieces(think Martin, Van Bergen, Molk, Hemingway etc.) The coaches told folks at the Sugar Bowl they had better enjoy the season because it was going to be hard to compete near term. RR left this program in awful shape at many positions.

Someday, RichRod will be mentioned on this blog without anyone also feeling the need to interject their views on how poorly he was treated or how bad of a coach he was or how they wish him success or how they wish his house would burn to the ground. Someday.

RR has some deal at Arizona, where if he stays for a certain length of time, he is rewarded with some huge annuity type financial package by one of the big boosters there.   He will be giving all of that up.  I do think that USC may be a good fit for him and his style though.  Lots of good athletes in that area can run the spread.

Getting squished by competent D-Line play?  Sure, why not?

In all seriousness, not sure why you leave Arizona for SC, there may be slightly higher upside at SC, but not much and you can have success at Arizona.  I think at both places you're looking at 6-8 win seasons with a breakthough of 10 once every four years or so.  I just don;t see it as much of an upgrade, but you would be getting into much crazier fan expectations.

Good fit for him IMO. Plus, I like the guy and like watching his offense when it's rolling. I'm usually in bed by the time they are on TV if they are on at all. Hope he gets it.

Rich Rod is asking for an absurd amount of money. The insiders on the Arizona and South Carolina boards are reporting close to $6 mill. Basically, he's using this as a way to get a raise out of Arizona.

Rich Rod has a history of making dumb emotional decisions. From hiring defensive coordinators, to dictating the defense they run, to playing football without regard to defensive field position or time, to recruiting ninja midgets but not linemen......... He would be dumb enough to leave for usc. Which might end up being his last gig since a failure there may send him back to Grenville,

ESPN has a list of other names that are either going to interview or are at least on the Gamecock radar - LINK

Among some of the notables - Will Muschamp, Greag Schiano (he's tan, he's fit, he's ready to try this coaching thing again, right?), Sonny Dykes and a couple others.

With all these coaching openings I just want to know why I haven't heard Brady Hoke's name mentioned as a potential candidate!

Is there any truth to the rumor about RR having a small fortune in stock options from an Arizona booster, a sort of buyout protection plan, that are contingent on him staying for a specific length of time?

EDIT: Apparently, true:

Currently up to $7 million, which can fluctuate as the value of each share goes up and down. The catch: He has to be there for eight years to cash in. The total amount (a little less than $18 million) is split between RR, the basketball coach, and the AD.
