Ohio State 42, Michigan 13
Bryan Fuller/MGoBlog
One team came prepared.
Ohio State's coaches prepared for Michigan's soft edges with an attack heavy on the power read. The Buckeye defense prepared for every wrinkle the Wolverines could conceive to utilize Jabrill Peppers and stopped them.
Michigan looked unprepared to deal with the Buckeye running game. The scheme was too passive and the adjustments ineffective, especially a move to a 3-man line. The linebackers weren't prepared to tackle Ezekiel Elliott in the gap or track JT Barrett in space. Nobody was prepared to block Joey Bosa.
For the tenth time in eleven years, Ohio State won The Game. The Buckeyes ran at will; Michigan couldn't trust its run game enough to even use it without ample trickery. While Michigan's 9-3 record and obvious team-wide improvement stand as a testament to the remarkable work of Jim Harbaugh, today's game showed just how much ground the program must make up on their chief rival.
Unlike last year, Michigan will get a full slate of bowl practices to work on their issues, and they'll face a quality opponent in a decent bowl game. Much like two years ago, there's a good chance they'll have to play that game with their backup quarterback, as Jake Rudock exited the game with an apparent shoulder or collarbone injury after taking a huge hit from Bosa.
Ohio State looked like a playoff team today. Michigan looked a long way off. That's exactly what we expected heading into the season; it's still hard not to be disappointed after seeing how the last few months have played out.

UM could make up losing Mone, but the loss of Glasgow was too much. UM's linebackers are a complete mismatch for spread teams. They fare okay vs pro-style teams, but lack the athleticism to play in space.

It is his FIRST year. First year!
Ask yourself this. We played multiple top 25 teams. How would have Hoke faired? Really? How do you think they would of done. 5 wins again .. maybe 6?
Biggest coaching blunder? The snap was a little low and the punter made a mistake and didn't catch the ball. He took full ownership that (#12) it was in his catching area. He just bobbled the ball. It was just a freakish miracle play for MSU. Nothing more. PERIOD! Wouldn't happen again in 20 trys or more. Total miracle they won, but they did.
OSU - Why can't we just say ... .they had our number. They were better than the guys we had on the field. I'm not going to even discuss the fact that our D line was missing KEY players as there is nothing we can do about that and we can have the "what if" convo all day. They were not there.
EVERY single other game besides OSU we were in the ball game. I'm damn happy about that.
If I was a recruit I would say .... MAN! They need me and I can play right away possibly! I just don't see it as a bad thing. JH is recruiting several players that could have immediate impact.
We NEED players badly for depth and many players are looking are way thanks to JH. I have no doubt in 3 years (yes I am patient) the team will be where it needs to be and have the players JH wants but I have to say .... we had a good season. It sucks losing to OSU at anytime. Our team was ranked and for me did far better andmore wins than I thought they would have. Their overall hussle and finishing games was FAR better this year. I'm pretty happy. Today certainly sucked but I am pretty happy with our direction.

We think the turnaround can happen in a season just because we want it so badly. But we can't will it to happen, and neither can Coach H. The team is seriously lacking in depth of talent, and the turnaround is going to take some time. I think we'll see steady overall progress, but like the stock market going up and down but in an overall upward direction. The team will have to endures some growing pains. Will next year be better? We hope so but there's no guarantee with a new QB and OSU and MSU on the road.

What issues did he have with D'Antonio? We dominated those guys. As for today, for 3 quarters we had guys in the right position but they weren't athletic or talented enough to make the play vs some superstars. IU gave OSU the blueprint on how to attack our D without Glasgow, Mone etc.

Assuming that you mean issues with beating these coaches ......
It's his first year here ... good grief. He totally turned this team around. MSU a miracle .. truly miracle finish to win that. Meyer ... good ... I hope he does have an issue with him personally because honestly I think we would ALL agree that this game is the on you WANT to win each and every year ... just because. That is what makes this rivalry so awesome. I don't think there is an issue with not being able to beat him. It's way to early to say that.
I don't see issues. JH is ultra competative. He needs time to bring in the players that play his brand of football. After 3 or 4 years we will see where we are at.

What???? Sorry to jump down your ass, but I'm just about had it with the dipshits on here tonight with their hand wringing and you're the proverbial straw that just broke my back.
Issues with Carrol? The same guy he beat the fuck out of to the point where he insulted ole Pete by going for two when up by a million?
Issues with Dantonio? Because he lost to him that one time on a gift-wrapped touchdown from a poor kid that choked on a routine play?
Issues with Meyer that's evident after their very first meeting? I guess you should just go all the way and throw Kyle Wittingham in there as a coach that Harbaugh has issues with.

They broke even. Your argument is wrong. He does not have have a problem with Carroll. In fact, Carroll is probably happier than any UM fan that Harbaugh left the NFL.
Stop trolling, you are soundly defeated.

Having watched a few OSU games this year, and then today's debacle, and now watching Stanford and ND play, I think that Michigan just doesn't have the athletes that these other top programs do. We have Peppers and a few others, but other teams have NFL talent at numerous spots, not just 2 or 3. Harbaugh's maximized what we have, I think, but there is a long way to go, and that is only going to happen with recruiting.
November 28th, 2015 at 9:04 PM ^
I think UM needs to get more talent---better players at some positions, and more depth everywhere. They seem to have trouble hanging in against deeply talented teams. Fortunately, the coaching staff seems to be on point with the recruiting. Maybe they'll be competative at the highest levels very soon.
November 28th, 2015 at 9:47 PM ^
This is a no brainer. JH in his first season did an excellent job with the players he had.
He will recruit and is recruiting the people he needs to play his brand of football.
Do ANY of you think that Hoke would of had this kind of season? I saw a significant change in hussle and finishing games this year. The OSU game stunk .... but sometimes teams are on and things go their way. Our D struggled for sure and I don't even want to talk about the important players gone from our D that would of made a differennce because you have to play with who you have. We need depth and I assure you this coaching staff knows this and we all have seen the better talent that is looking are way. We have to ALL be patient. This is not an overnight thing. I give it 3 years max and we will be a team that other teams just don't want to face.
I personally did not expect us to get as many wins this year as we did. We ended up playing a schedule that included many teams ranked in the top 25. We did ok. The MSU game in particular .... I mean come on .... just a miracle ending for them. Besides the OSU game .... we were really in every game this year. Every single one. I like that! There were no gimme's this year. There were a lot of who knows and we coulds.
Looking forward to the bowl game. I am very happy with how JH brought our team to play and did his best with the injuries and tried his best to put us in a position to win each and every week. The OSU game aside .. which honestly .... can just happen to the best of them out there.

that if UM wants to win the B1G they will have to get in the final four. Or at least be right there. It appears as though it will take a fantastic season. It also is unfortunate that we got spanked today : (. Jim Harbaugh will get his team ready when his recruits are in but it does give me shivers thinking back, when I was using nothing but excuses (to watch B1G after B1G go by by). Like well this is only his second year wait till he gets (Hoke, Rich Rod),his recruits in.. But I believe that Jim will get it done because of the obvious improvement in one year. So I am gonna step back from the ledge and know next year will be fun. Remember when your team faulters don't kick em help them up.... GO BLUE!

Let me start with two premises. First, if anyone had offered me 9-3 at the beginning of the fall, I would have taken it. Second, Harbaugh et. al are terrific and will only get better.
But having reflected on the game for a while now, I am disheartened with how poorly prepared we were and how poorly we played. There were no assurances, of course, that we would win, but who could have expected a blow-out like that? Even Hoke's teams managed to play OSU competitively.
And it's difficult to believe that we weren't significantly outcoached -- beginning with trying to block a punt early in a tied game when we were likely to get terrific field position and have a chance to take an early lead. I didn't see much evidence of half-time adjustments. We were down only 4 and had momentum from the end-of-half touchdown, but still came out flat. We got outscored 28-3 in the second half. When is the last time that happened?
I assume things will get better, but this sure was a lousy day.

OSU did run train. Unfortunately, it was on that other team from Michigan.
Cumulative score of the games UM cared about today: 29-97.
Cumulative record against your top two rivals over the last decade: 4-16.
How many times do you have to be embarrassed year after year before you learn an ounce of humility? Instead of crapping on other teams (and their fans, the officials, etc), instead of rooting for other teams to beat your rivals, take care of your own damn business. Win a big game, one time. You've earned nothing yet.

You said to stop crapping on other teams and their fans. What are you doing right now? You're apparently too stupid to realize how big of a hypocrite you are.
I'm not embarrassed to be a Michigan fan. And I never will be, ever. I'm guessing most Michigan fans would agree. We'll always be proud of our university and our teams. And we'll always be grateful that we didn't go to MSU or OSU because then we'd have to associate with fans like you. We are the leaders and best, and that extends well beyond the results on the field. We're not going anywhere. Go blue!

We were getting the family pictures taken this morning, had lunch and ran a few errands.
I was looking forward to coming home and watching some quality MEEECHIGAN FOOTBALL
but listening to bits of the game on the radio told me all I needed to know. So I get home
pissed off, delete DVR and focus on happier things.
I am grateful I didn't have to sit and watch because it sounded like a train wreck so at least I was spared that.
On the postitve side - we picked up Jordan Elliot today and we still have Harbaugh to not only right the ship but turn it into a big, bad, smash mouth , ass kicking machine and we all knew it wouldn't happen in year 1.
So here's to our bright future and getting over the pain of the last 10 years or so and heartbreakers of recent past.
We WILL be Damn Good real soon and all enemies of Michigan can suck a big fat one.
