Dantonio to SC?
That would be the South Carolina-SC. Dantonio is an alum of SC so this rumor has legs. Heck why couldn't he be considered for Southern Cal?
Oh yes I forgot, MSU is a destination not a stop.

I don't care what they say. Why should any of us? If we own them under Harbaugh do you really care about their excuses?
October 13th, 2015 at 9:53 PM ^
I think they exist to troll Michigan fans. At least OSU has a sense of individuality and pride in who they are. Their team and their school. MSU exists to compare themselves to Michigan.
October 13th, 2015 at 10:23 PM ^
but I can't imagine offering up "because we had RR as our coach" or "because we had Hoke as our coach" as an excuse to them for the better part of the last decade. The laughter would be unbearable. Same standard back at them.
October 13th, 2015 at 10:03 PM ^
That response is easily negated (assuming we win this weekend) by saying Dantonio only left cause he didn't want to be Harbaugh's bitch every year.
October 14th, 2015 at 12:49 AM ^
That was saban's reason for leaving staee as he got tired of playing second fiddle.

Agree on this- want Dantonio to stay at MSU. Want to see his reaction when Harbaugh runs over his teams year in and year out.
That, and I think Narduzzi was the real brains behind MSU's defensive dominance and I don't want him anywhere near East Lansing (well, at least on MSU's side of the field).
October 14th, 2015 at 8:18 AM ^
is the reason that, under Dantonio, Michigan State has won the B1G Championship over Urban Meyer, the Rose Bowl over Stanford, and the Cotton Bowl over Baylor?
October 13th, 2015 at 7:53 PM ^
He seems a bit old to be a candidate. But then, who wouldn't want to get out of Harbaugh's shadow?

Saban and Bama are in the SEC West. SCar is in the East.
That said, I think he's probably not that far from retirement given his age and health issues.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:00 PM ^
No, he'd be in Dabo Sweeney's shadow--sort of. Saban is in the other division, he'd only play Bama once ever three years, something like that.
OBV, the SEC East is the easier division (right now), with no clear heavyweights. Mark Richt is (once again) (annually) on the hot seat. Florida obv seems to have a good coach but he's not Urbs or Saban (=yet). Tennessee has... hahahah nevermind.
But if he went to SC, it would be read as: "I DONT WANT TO COMPETE WITH HARBAUGH." He'll be seen as chicken, whether or not it's true (=it totally is).
And..GO CUBBIES!!!
October 13th, 2015 at 7:56 PM ^
Mark Dantonio is younger than both Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz were when they were hired, though.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:00 PM ^
were Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier...
I don't think that will be a problem...
There might be OTHER problems, but his age isn't one of them.
October 14th, 2015 at 9:06 AM ^
I thought this as well, but Spurrier was 60 when they hired him and Holtz was 62. Dantonio would fit right in with their recent hires in terms of age.

...would be dumb not to try. As much of a jerk as he's been in our rivalry, he is definitely a good coach.
If that happened, would MSU try to hire Narduzzi? If so, LOL@PItt.

I would check with ESPN. They know where all coaches are going due to baseless speculation.
October 13th, 2015 at 7:57 PM ^
This is about as silly as the Harbaugh to [fill in blank] NFL team threads. And the new DJ Durkin a candidate for this [fill in blank] Power 5 school whose coach just got fired threads.
October 13th, 2015 at 7:55 PM ^
It would be far more fitting to say Dantonio is a complete COCK, under those circumstances
October 13th, 2015 at 7:55 PM ^
past 20 years to take a job in a region he isn't has been in since the late 70's?
October 13th, 2015 at 8:02 PM ^
He gets crushed by us and OSU and no longer likes the future of his program. I don't think that happens in just one year.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:06 PM ^
climate, beaches, mountains, women that say hi y'all...and no Harbaugh.

October 13th, 2015 at 8:07 PM ^
The SEC East.looks easier to win. I would assume they wouldn't even contact him if they weren't going to offer a big raise.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:18 PM ^
They're better right now. But SCar is his alma mater and also in a more talent-rich location. If he weren't pretty close to retirement (my guess), I think he'd probably jump at the chance.
October 13th, 2015 at 11:57 PM ^
way more competition for that talent. When you go into a recruits home in the south, you're going up against just about every other SEC school plus Clemson and FSU. In the midwest, MSU is probably 4th on the pecking order behind UM, ND and OSU.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:15 PM ^
He's in a good mood in this one. Someone just told him he won the lottery.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
At least he won't have to worry about smile lines when he's in his 70's.
October 13th, 2015 at 10:17 PM ^
start a thread with mork pictures and captions. it would be funny.
why don't i start it, you ask? well, it is kind of stupid too.

My sources tell me Mike D'Antoni will be coaching the Colts next year. But Oakland is still in play.
October 13th, 2015 at 7:58 PM ^
Harbaugh is comin', and HELL is coming with him!
October 13th, 2015 at 7:59 PM ^
There is only idle speculation about something that could happen because it's plausible.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:02 PM ^
So...you're saying it's totally going to happen?
October 13th, 2015 at 8:01 PM ^
Richt's on borrowed time, UT scares no one, UK will lose their entire staff sooner rather than later, Vandy is Vandy, and who knows what Florida has now.

I don't think it's out of the question personally, but he certainly seems to love it at MSU. I would be surprised if he left - I would be infinitely more surprised if he did so before the end of the season, or even let that become a storyline in EL. We won't have any clue until either the offseason, or when USCe names a new coach.
October 13th, 2015 at 8:13 PM ^
SC named their OL coach interim. I think that's a good indication they aren't looking to promote from within, so the speculation will last at least a couple of months.

There is no way he would take the south carolina job. He is a God in East Lansing. Gets paid about $4 million a year? Dude is old - 60 already. He is as loyal as they get. Friends with Hollis/Izzo. South Carolina is not a better job than MSU no matter what you guys say. SEC pressure and the time it would take him to get his players there......Not a chance.

Dantonio is a loved demigod at EL and has built a pretty good recruiting pipeline. He's just now starting to see some really good prospects come his way. Not a chance he leaves.
