Special Schadenfreude: OSU on their QB and Offense Situation
So, over at Eleven Warriors, one of the key Ohio State blogs, they have great discomfort over their team. Specifically, fans are really struggling with their QB situation, and with their offense. Here's a sampling of thread links:
LINK: Chris Spielman, Bobby Carpenter, and Cris Carter on the QB Situation
Discussion on how they view the QB sit, with some tweets. Here's one:
Chris Spielman said he's doesn't know why Urban Meyer is going with Cardale Jones. Said the timing between QB & WR is not there.
LINK: What's the Panic Meter with the Offense?
Discussion not just on QB situation, but entire offense. Here's a sample post:
If Ohio State doesn't beat this Maryland team by 28 points (the same Michigan beat them) and dominate throughout, panic is the right word. How could it not be? You'll have seen the team not perform as well as your rival against a common opponent, right before hitting the meat of the B1G schedule.
LINK: This Offensive Debacle Finally Makes Sense
Convoluted discussion and theory on why things are going so poorly with Ohio State's offense.
Also, apparently their live board really melted down on Saturday, with extremely inappropriate and racist comments about Cardale. A good reason not to go to a totally live and totally anonymous chat.
For being 5 - 0, and the number one team in the country, Ohio State fans are really nervous and struggling. Oh, and one other thing. I haven't seen nearly as much in the way of thinking Harbaugh is a lousy coach. They still think he is half crazy, but not too many think he is a lousy coach. In fact, a lot of them really, really wish he would go to Miami: they realize that the jig is up for OSU dominance in the Big 10.
This is the kind of schadenfreude I really love. I mean, the schadenfreude of Texas fans? That's just piling on. The schadenfreude of Buckeyes? Them are some delicious, tasty nuggets.

Yeah, this time last year we were Texas: biggest tire fire in all of CFB. Even Texas has not had their woes make the national news two nights in a row like we did.
People who knew nothing about college football knew there was trouble at Michigan.
I feel sorry for nobody this season.

Maybe offensively. But their results this year are not much to write home about. Indiana beat Southern Illinois 48-47, and they beat Western Kentucky 38-35. They needed a second half comeback to beat FIU.

This time last year Cardale Jones was holding a clipboard. Then Ohio beat the two best teams in the country. Not one single thing matters until Michigan plays them. Nothing. I have no doubt we get their best shot.

Remember, Meyer had struggles after his first National Championship at Florida in 2006.
Lost 3 games then lost to Michigan in the Capitol One. Tebow won the heisman that year and they still struggled.

Definitely first world defending national championship problems. In 2013, my expectations were tempered by mid-season because obviously. Buckeye fans have a shitload of 5*'s to help them grind out wins in the 4th quarter of games against any team in the country.
As a fan of the Red Sox, this reminds me of the mouth breathers that would call WEEI and complain about Pedro not pitching complete game 17K shutouts in 2004.

I too will be sniping at my fellow fans when we are 12-0 in any 1 season or 39-3 over 3 years.
Fair warning, bitchez.

Some OSU fans are suggesting that the fans respect JT much more than Cardale, but aren't going to voice that publicly, or even with Urban. But yeah, some dissension in the ranks.
October 5th, 2015 at 8:06 PM ^
Feed Elliott all day. The only thing I can think of is saving him for the playoff run. I'd be surprised if the teams in MSU and OSU you are seeing now are just rope-a-doping and holding back their full play book.
October 5th, 2015 at 8:16 PM ^
Nobody (including harbaugh) shows all his offense the first few weeks. Expect Urban's to look pretty different by the time The game rolls around. Now, the QB issues are real but lets remember, theres a lot of time left for development.

LOL gtfo ... you guys barely got out of that NIU game with your lives. And Indiana woulda had you guys...please stop with the "we're holding back" shit it just makes us laugh harder.
October 5th, 2015 at 8:32 PM ^
You can laugh if you like but both teams will look much different in November.

It's like the whole team is distracted. Either way, I hope they hold on to being undefeated just long enough for Harbaugh to come in and ruin it all.

Maybe it's an entitlement thing - you win the NC in pretty spectacular fashion, going against all the pundits, and taking down a dynasty in the process. It's pretty hard to follow that. As my daughter says, whenever I have a really great time doing something, trying to duplicate it is impossible. It's never nearly as good the second time.
October 5th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
Whining bunch, this team is just toying with the B1G and the rest of the nation, your winning Columbus, quit your damn whining.
October 5th, 2015 at 8:58 PM ^
I have read all your comments and I believe you know the feelings of our fans. The way this team finished off the playoff run had us licking our chops waiting for this season to start. VT was a good statement, but since then it hasn't lived up to anyone's expectations. I picked UM 27 - Terps 3 on this site and I felt that UM was disrespected for only an 11.5 favorite. If the Bucks can't put it on the derps by more than 30, there will be a run on Prozac.
October 5th, 2015 at 9:14 PM ^
But Maryland is terrible and comparing shared opponents is still terrible at predicting results. I like the UM defense against anyone, but with the offense what it is at this point we won't be scoring like other teams can. So even if OSU does run the score up on Maryland, it won't mean shit when they come to the big house in November.
October 5th, 2015 at 9:21 PM ^
Comparing scores never means anything. The only thing I was trying to say was since Maryland is so bad, it is time for this offense to be putting up points. Without the TOs or dumb miscues at IU, OSU had the game well in hand. The game at AA will be a nail biter. It didn't become "The Game" by accident.

The best form of Schadenfreude was watching the game at a bar and seeing Buckeye fans fucking CHEERING and doing the "OH---IO!" thing after taking the lead on fucking IU in the fourth quarter.
If that was MY team, I wouldn't be proud of that performance.
October 5th, 2015 at 9:34 PM ^
To be fair, there is no way to be anything close to dignified when your team ekes by a terrible team, and you have the misfortune to be at a bar. I was at a bar in 2013 when Michigan needed a miracle to beat Akron, at a bar that was me and like five friends in town for a wedding when the game started, but was 90% Buckeyes (who were in town to see Cal-OSU) by the fourth quarter. Maybe the most awkward hour and half of my life.
October 5th, 2015 at 9:59 PM ^
Did this actually happen?
Not that I doubt for a second that racist OSU fans exist cause I'm sure there are a ton of them out there just like any fan base (unfortunately).
What I find more than mildly amusing is exactly WHO did these racist rocket scientists think OSU should put in Cardale's place? Barrett? Or would they be happier if they flipped Miller back to QB instead?
Seems like the knuckle-draggers in Columbus are going to need to find a new team to root for if they have a problem with Jones's skin color and not his accuracy as a passer.
And FWIW I'd still take Cardale here in Cleveland over McCown or Johnny Football.

I live down here in the belly of the beast and i can tell you that in the nearly 30 years I've called Ohio home I've recieved virtually no mean-spirited crap from anyone who actually atteneded OSU. They are respectful of the rivalry and our school and most are actually more than a bit glad (at least right now) that we seemed to have righted the ship.
The ones you just described couldnt find Columbus on a map and have never darkened the doorstep of a classroom. My standard response to those lovelies when they start up with the "Fuck Michigan" crapola is to simply look at them and say "I graduated from Michigan in 1981 - what year did you graduate from OSU?" and not one of them has ever given me a date.

and the young man is a beast who should probably be getting 30-40 carries a game at this point while OSU irons out their other offensive issues.

I'm surprised the loss of Herman is not mentioned more when discussing OSU's offensive woes.
Also, I think a team with this much NFL talent is harder to keep reeled in as the season progresses. I think by the end of bowl season OSU has two losses.
October 5th, 2015 at 10:48 PM ^
Member for three years and all the Hoke crap last year cant draw you out, the Harbaugh search doesnt warrant a comment but start a thread about OSU bitching and here you come guns ablazing.
Seriously though welcome. You've officially burnt your lurker redshirt.
October 6th, 2015 at 5:00 AM ^
Seems to me we're being a bit premature here. OSU may not be the power they were last year, but until we actually beat them ourselves I'm going to hold off on the celebrations.
October 6th, 2015 at 8:56 AM ^
Schadenfruede normally accompanies a loss. It is defined as "the feeling of joy or pleasure when one sees another fail or suffer misfortune." Until OSU loses to Michigan you are somewhat correct. That's the point when they truly fail.
"Schadenfreude" fits to the degree you feel joy or pleasure at their discomfort. This feeling of joy is not in direct conflict with holding off on celebrations. The anticipatory pleasure is a precursor of the coming celebration.

I bet if MSU had an MgoBlog-esque blog back in 2007, they would have been putting up threads like this. This is a little-brother-type thread.
The last I checked, OSU is 5-0. They might have difficulties on offense after a new coordinator, but guess what? They are finding ways to win games. Knowing how to win games, which that team has certainly learned to do over the past two years, is huge. It can lift a team over teams it should beat. OSU is dangerous.
October 6th, 2015 at 9:09 AM ^
However, I was shocked that Cardale won the job, and I still think Barret should be starting.
October 6th, 2015 at 2:20 PM ^
OSU will win the rest of their games, go to the playoffs and get beaten there. Then they will make themselves playoff rings to sell on eBay. You heard it here first folks.
