Michigan enters the Coaches Poll at #21

Northwestern sitting at #14, not that any of this matters.

Did you not read the rankings thread?
October 4th, 2015 at 12:30 PM ^
For some reason, that title didn't make me think it contained coaches poll info. If mods want to nuke this thread, that's cool.
Did you read the rankings thread?
October 4th, 2015 at 12:32 PM ^
Of course I did. A thread to compile all of the rankings instead of having several separate threads.
October 4th, 2015 at 12:46 PM ^
One thread to rule them all, one thread to find them, one thread to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

One of the funniest comments this season, though there have been many.
Well done sir.
October 4th, 2015 at 2:15 PM ^
You know what this thread has that the other "comprehensive" thread doesn't have? A link to the poll.
October 4th, 2015 at 3:05 PM ^
Gold, Jerry, Gold.
I do enjoy, though, the threads about threads, and the comments to the threads about the threads, and the retorts to the comments to the threads about the threads, and the comments to the retorts to the comments to the threads about the threads.

As I mentioned in the other thread, we probably won't be able to avoid having separate AP and Coaches' thread, mostly because these two polls generate rather a lot of discussion on their own most weeks. Having a combo thread for the stats and algorithm-based metrics - which normally don't feature heavily around here (they are fun to discuss all the same) is a good idea though and provides a nice forum for the numbers-oriented crowd.
October 4th, 2015 at 3:47 PM ^
If we can have a single game thread, we can have a single poll thread.
October 4th, 2015 at 8:21 PM ^
I would prefer to have a separate thread for the AP and Coaches polls.
There are certainly threads I have no interest in, but I don't try to impose my will on the people who do have an interest in them by complaining about them or making a stink about it and saying they shouldn't be here. I just don't click them. It's a simple way around it that doesn't involve making everything about me and my preferences at the expense of what someone else might like.

AP position might be a little better given recent history.
This is about what it looked like it would be. Southern bias to these polls IMO.
In the end, all we really have to do is beat NW.
HUGE GAME.
October 4th, 2015 at 12:48 PM ^
Is there Southern bias? Which Southern schools are ahead of us that shouldn't be? Clearly Alabama, LSU and Clemson should be ahead of us. Ole Miss and Florida as well - both have a very good quality win. TAMU is undefeated so I'm not sure why they wouldn't be ahead of us.
The only one you could argue for is FSU, who hasn't played anyone yet but also hasn't lost. Are they going to rank a one-loss anybody over an undefeated FSU at this point in the season? Probably not.
October 4th, 2015 at 12:59 PM ^
There is no way Texas A&M should be above Northwestern. Georgia has beaten no one and should in the low 20s.
This isn't southern bias, but Alabama has no business being above Florida based on the resumes.

Tennessee, Arkansas, and Georgia's early rankings I would submit to you.
No way Georgia should be ahead of us to answer your question. Ole Miss has a horrible loss, compared to ours at Utah, which doesn't look too bad now. So I could argue Ole Miss also.
If anyone has a beef, it is NW, which should not be ranked IMO behind Ala or Ole Miss or FL.
I do not have a major problem with this poll, but I do believe in Southern bias in the polls. In the end, I don't care, but it is fun to talk about.
If we take care of business, polls will take care of themselves. We have benefitted at times because of our tradition of success on a historical basis, so we are going to have to earn some of that back.

Probably because people think Alabama is really good. Whether or not this has been proven this year is debatable, but it's not exactly a stretch. People think Georgia will be good (I among them) and they got beat. albeit handily, to one of the top teams in the country, and the top program in the country over the last 7ish years.
That's not SEC bias. They're basically saying "we think Alabama is better than Utah and outside of those losses, we think Georgia is a little better than Michigan." Is that really such a stretch?
October 4th, 2015 at 1:01 PM ^
That would be a good argument if Ole Miss had not gotten destroyed by Florida. Georgia has an average to poor defense and a terrible QB. Bama may well be one of the best teams in the country, but Georgia has done nothing to show that they are.
October 4th, 2015 at 1:43 PM ^
It is not a long stretch, but it is Southern bias.
I agree GA will be good, but they looked like shit yesterday, at HOME. Like AL looked like agst Ole Miss, at HOME. And Ole Miss looked absolutely awful yesterday.
NW has beaten Stanford, a tough Duke team, and spanked Minny, who gave TCU all they wanted. They may not be better than all those Southern teams, but they deserve to be ranked above them at this point. If they beat us, look out.
Ala is likely to emerge strong, and LSU is for real I think, but questionable at qb.

October 4th, 2015 at 12:53 PM ^
I mean, they're only one spot ahead of us. Are we really getting worked up over one poll spot at this point in the season? That will work itself out.

as a common opponent also but they only slightly outperformed us against them. They also have a nice blow out win @ Arizona which is why they are ahead of Michigan.
