BCS Postgame w/ Colt McCoy

Submitted by formerlyanonymous on
That interview was like watching someone kill kittens. So sad to see him not even find the words when they asked him how he felt about his career at Texas being over. Add that he can't even feel his arm, it just being dead. I feel so bad for him.

I have a burning hatred for all on-field interviews, and that's the situation in which I hate on-field interviews the most. The poor kid got knocked out of the game, his team lost and his college career is done: just leave him alone. Personally, I think all sideline reporters should be banished. Their questions are typically dumb -- Lloyd got it right -- and they're usually obnoxiously intrusive. Anyway: McCoy handled that interview as well as anybody could. He was very gracious and (for the situation) well-spoken; he seems like a good kid. I hope he finds success at the next level.

was exceptionally obnoxious and intrusive. Trying too hard during her big chance, I suppose. My favorite part was when she said to Mack Brown, "Your offensive line is going to be a big part of controlling this game" and then asked some stupid question about how they'd do it. I'm thinking: "Really? You're going to inform Mack Brown on the importance of the OL? Who do you think you are?"

He holds almost all the records for QB at Texas and he gets hurt in the second series of the biggest game of his career. On top of that he is a class kid, you have to feel bad for him.

Imagine, if we all feel that bad for the kid, and I know I do, because that may be the classiest interview I've seen, ever (remembering to congratulate Bama? Come on, that's impressive), how must it feel to be a Texas fan seeing that? Has to break your heart and wring out your spleen.

I think Texas would have won by double digits if McCoy had been healthy and even brought his B game. Alabama's offense did nothing in the second half, and their defense had trouble stopping the untried freshman backup.

It was really too bad he couldn't play in this game, could have been a much different outcome. Gilbert looked like a freshman and Bama just pinned their ears back and blitzed over and over. His OL and TE didn't help much either with the corner blitzes coming unprotected time and time again. McCoy is a class act and what a student athlete should be. I wish him nothing but the best of luck at the next level. Some team will get a very good football player and stand-up guy.

Of course, the game quite possibly would have turned out differently had McCoy not been injured. The sad thing is that he will most likely be wondering that for a long time. My heart sank when he held back tears after the question was asked. But holy Jackie O, does McCoy has class or what? Who makes an extra effort to congratulate the opposing team?? I haven't seen anyone give extra props to someone since Tebow thanked himself, I mean, Jesus 78 times in his Heisman speech. Poor guy.

I'm really sorry about that. It was a risky comment. I thought it could be a mere observation or maybe I should have included a disclaimer like, "No offense intended toward Christianity or its followers in any way." Perhaps it's not enough, but I meant it. I didn't mean it as a potshot at religion or Christians but at Tebow and Tebow alone. I thought that there was something peculiar about the way that Tebow thanked a deity in his speech, but that's probably a discussion better suited for another place and not MGoBlog, if not rather disrespectful and best not mentioned at all. I apologize for what I said and if it offended anyone.

I think McCoy bruised his shoulder. After they took him to the locker room, they said let's x-ray this just to make sure. They got his dad down there to sign off on the painkilling shot. This is where things went bad...McCoy's shot hit a nerve and "deadened" his arm. Therefore, he couldn't feel it but it didn't hurt. What do you think?

but didn't see the hit, so I can't comment on that. You do present a plausible scenario though. As to the interview after the game I can see both sides. I played in the CHL until I was 20 years old. In my last year our team made it to the memorial cup final and lost by one goal. I was the Center on the checking line and our first line C went down with an injury midway through the third period. We were leading by 1 at the time and trying to kill the clock so coach has shortened the bench. He moved me to the first line as one of the older guys and one who was used to playing in that situation. With a little over six minutes left we were still up by one and the opposing teams defenseman was carrying the puck out of his zone. He was a big guy who had delivered the hit on our star player that knocked him out of the game. As he crossed his blue line he stickhandled around one of our forwards and dropped his head to see the puck. I had my eye on him from when he started out from behind his net and hammered him in the open ice. There is still no boubt in my mind that it was a clean hit. I watched tape dozens of times and there was nothing wrong with it. The problem was it looked horrible and knocked the guy unconscious. I was given a double minor and game misconduct. The opposing team scored on each of my minors and won the game by a goal. After the game a reporter asked me what I was think when I watched the second goal go in and if I felt like I cost my team the game. I didn't say anything and pushed the mic out of my face. He is lucky that is all I did, because I wanted to pound him. Had he asked me a couple hours later I could have probabaly responded in a classy way, but that was too soon. I feel horrible for McCoy and am very impressed with how he handled the situation.

but really, what are the odds that Marcell Dareus gets a critical hit on his attack roll, and McCoy rolls a critical miss on his saving throw! First McCoy takes double damage and get's forced off the field; then he rolls the "Chad Henne Shoulder-Curse®"?! That's some bad JuJu.
