OT - Fallout 4
I'm huge fan of the Fallout series by Bethesda studios and i'm super excited to see that the teaser trailer for Fallout 4 just dropped. definitely will be pre-ordering for the PS4.
Looks like a live demo will be shown at E3 on June 14th

I agree 99+% of the time. This is that less than 1%.
I'll pre-order and be at the midnight launch. Fallout 3 is probably my all time favorite game (definitely top 3) and I've been eagerly anticipating this announcement for years!

This -- it's one of the many factors ruining gaming. So many mediocre or downright shitty games are setting record Day 1 sales nowadays. That people are going giddy over a 90 second trailer just because it has Inkblots music and "War never changes" is just pathetic. Social workers and drug treatment specialists have a term for this. It's "Enablers". It's when you are so accomodating or forgiving of someone's repeated offenses that you can be considered part of the problem.
I'm a PC gamer and haven't owned a console since N64. These sorts of shenanigans happen all the time in PC gaming. I've been burned a few times and have stopped paying for anything while it's still in "beta." Planetside 2 was the breaking point for me. I loved PS1, paid a sub for a good year or so before that game went to shit. I was so excited for PS2 and SOE strung people along by saying their shitty game "is still in beta! anything can change!" even though the cash shop was open. The actual game never materialized; in two years they didn't improve the gameplay at all and just kept milking the shit out of people by releasing more cash shop items for people to buy.
I can understand supporting a kickstarter for some indie game company to make a game, but people shouldn't subsidize a big studio with pre-orders and paid beta access. It's like when the rich billionaire owners of sports teams con the local fanbase into building a new stadium with public funds. The big game companies are just laughing at you.
Pre-ordering itself isnt inherintly bad. Having an idea of demand in the form of dollars and cents makes producing enough for release day that much easier while it makes over-producing that much less likely.
The entire problem with the gaming industry is that consumers have absolutely NO recourse. When a game drops and completely fails the consumer is stuck eating the money. The industry claims copyright as the reason you can't return something once you cracked the wrapper. This allows games like Sim City, Project Cars, and Diablo 3 to be made and the development shops just sit back and say "We'll fix it". Look at how many games EA has botched completely on release and it took a year for them to get to the state it should have been. Consumers really need to have recourse in these situations. Developers occasionally recognize their fault, but even then, the most they do is give a 2 year old game to the consumer and expect that will make everything ok.
Friend of mine bought Forza Horizon 2 and the game never worked. Swapped out the game at the store as he was unsure if it was a bad disc. Still didn't work. Game started, went to a spash screen then never left. Reformated his Xbox, still same problem. Problem was reported on the forums by many people. Some people it eventually got fixed, others it didn't. Every attempt to get his money back either never got responded to or was told that due to copyright laws a game cannot be returned (Even told by the developer this).
It's absolute BS that the consumer takes on all the risk of a product and has no recourse to get their money back if the product isn't up to par.
I upgraded my PC recently and tried to future-proof it. Got a 980GTX graphics card. The best part about that is that NVIDIA is doing a promo where you get The Witcher 3 and Batman for free if you buy one of their new cards.

It truly is. I can run anything on full settings at 60 frames so far. I'm sure I'll need an upgrade when VR becomes a thing, but I'll cross that bridge when we get there.
And I probably could have waited, but the TI is so much more expensive than the plain-jane 980. Almost to the point where if I was going to get the TI, I may was well get the Titan X.
100 bucks more than the 980 and it's like 2% less powerfull than the titan x for 350 bucks less. It's not in stock anywhere yet though, cant wait to get it, I want to see Witcher 3 on my 65" in 4k
As awesome as that sounds, it also sounds like overkill for me, haha.
I'm pretty happy settling for whatever gets me 1080p, 60fps
Hopefully it won't be another boring and repetitive game where 90% of the content is procedurally generated, like every other Bethesda RPG of the past 10 years.
Does anyone know if I need to know anything about the series before playing?

I'm sure it adds to the experience. But not "needed", no.
Nah, you're good. The game's intro will give you the barebones of what has happened to the world in the game. Each game is basically a seperate story that takes place in that same post apocalyptic world.
However, if you are interested in the games, I would recommend playing Fallout 3 or New Vegas. The new one should be pretty similar to those, give or take.

Well, it is rated M.
FWIW the Bethesda store has an estimated ship date of "tba 2015".
... Trying to contain the optimism... Trying...
when I was younger. I only ever played sports games (and still do), and I didn't ever have xbox live so I was literally playing hours against the computer. Numbed the mind for sure.
I dabbled in fall out 3 and liked it, but I don't have the patience for these kinds of games sadly.
Unrelated video game chat:
I keep seeing "Zoltan Kovacs" running around in Guild Wars 2. Which one of you is this?
It's finally happening!

smells of cheetos and weed.
Not sure if criticism or compliment..............
I miss gaming.
Can't stop playing Destiny though. Love it
I have three boys: 9 and twin 7's. They are currently on wii u but are staring to ask about the other consoles. Should I go Xbox or Playstation?

If you're not already tied to the Xbox (all your friends on Xbox, must have Halo, etc)? The PS4 all the way IMO. I was on Xbox the last two gens and made the switch back to Sony this gen (along with most of my friends). Hardware is better (how much so is hotly debated and I won't get into it) and it's selling at a record pace (typically means it'll get catered to more by 3rd parties).
I agree with most of your post. I do think it's worth pointing out that even though the PS4/One aren't as cutting edge as some past consoles were at launch, they're still far more powerful than their predecessors. The 360 was 8 years old and the PS3 was 7 y/o when the PS4/One launched. I'm not sure if I agree with the ".5" comment with that in mind... Relative to say, the original Xbox to the 360 only being 4 years apart and the PS2 to PS3 being 6 years apart even with the PS2 being a sales monster... The leap from last gen to this one is still large.
Both are great and I don't think there's a huge difference between the two in terms of gaming it may just come down to which one you think more of their friends will be on.
Alternatively you can see which one has exclusives that work better with their interests. If they like baseball games, Playstation has the exclusive on the only one worth playing.
Neither introduce them to the PC Master Race while they're young.
