OT: So Jon Cooper is accusing Red Wings of cheating.
What a turd and a cry baby. It's funny that they have more PP than we do by 5. Can't help that you're 2/24 on PP's.

Every coach complains about our "subtle interference" plays. Pretty much just his way of saying "I can't compete with Babcock". It'll be interesting to see what impact, if any, this has on how the refs call tonight's game.
Interference and holding have been systematically not called in the playoffs. Hardly called in the regular season and especially not now. Art Ross winner had 87 points this year. Ignoring the lockout year, it's been 10 years since the winner was sub-100 and it was still like 95 pts.

I'm a Wings fan and usually whine about the calls, but Detroit got away with a LOT in game 5 in terms of hooking, holding, tripping, etc. that went uncalled. They're basically playing ugly ass Michigan State hockey in this series.
They're playing a defensive style of hockey, which is what you have to do when going up against the highest scoring team in the league. I watched the entire game 5 but I must've missed all of these hooks, holds, and trips that you say the Wings got away with.
Didn't say it wasn't smart. Especially since the Wings defense corps is let's say lackluster. Need to slow them down through the neutral zone. It's just not a super fun brand of hockey to watch, in my opinion. But Babcock is going to get paid a ton for a reason, he's the difference in this series thus far.
As for the non-calls, the most obvious one was Zetterberg yanking Johnson down with his stick after a whistle. But there was plenty of that stuff if you were watching the neutral zone play closely.
Of course, Tampa's gotten away with some stuff (and theirs have usually been more dangerous: the two slew foots on Datsyuk, Garrison going for Abdelkader's head) too, but I thought game 5 was tilted towards Detroit a bit. It happens some times.
I'd rather win playing ugly than losing trying to beat Tampa at their own game. As far as the calls are concerned, I think there's plenty of that shit that goes on in the playoffs, not just in the Wings games. TBL have been the beneficiary of some very weak calls and hold the edge in power plays overall, so I'm not really sure what Cooper is complaining about, especially since his powerplay is like 2/30 in the series.
Super fun to watch is the Red Wings winning; be it 1-0 or 8-7. My favorite style of hockey? The style that effing wins the game.
It's really funny how everyone (screw you NBC sports for starting it) harps on how the Red Wings are so good at the 'subtle interference' while ignoring that almost every team is just as good at it. It's a myth that's propagated by people that never actually bother following hockey.
It's also illegal to slew foot, run into the goalie, and dive to draw penalties but TB has done those about a dozen times in the series and been called once (for goalie interference).
Apparently Cooper needs to be reminded that his team slew-footed Datsyuk away from the play and ended up with a power play out of it.
When you skate up behind someone, and kick their skate/leg out from under them, causes them to fall on their back/head with little to no bracing, due to it being unexpected. It is a pretty dirty move.
Here is an example from our favorite cry baby.
I too had never heard this term before for some reason even after watching hockey (admittedly on a sporadic basis) for quite a few years.
Ha. As a goalie, Marty Turco taught me how to do this at hockey camp. Didn't know there was a name for it.
Both your comments and Cooper's comments are true. But your comments are MORE true.

Called a penalty on the Tampa Bay dude, but Abdelkader jumped on him, put him in a headlock and took him to the ice and got a roughing penalty. Result? 4 on 4.
That's like asking who is the best closer on the Tigers.
Answer: They don't have one.
Soria. Was last year too not that Ausmus noticed.
Honestly, I can't think of who the best fighter on the Wings is. Personally, I don't think they have had a true fighter (i.e. Probert) since McCarty. I could be wrong here, but the Wings have gone away from having any true enforcer on the team.
That being said Abdelkader seems to be the one that will jump into a fight more often then not.
Abby, Ericson or Smith are the ones who fight generally but its really rare they fight overall.
They had Brad May for one season. If he was there for any skill other than being a "true fighter,' well. . . I'm unaware of what else he brought to the table.
of hockey when fights were commonplace and the refs just stood by watching.
Goon takes a shot at your goalie. What are you supposed to do? Babcock was rightly incensed by how the refs dealt with that

Dear Jon Cooper,
Man up!
maybe they can get some of the sand out of his vagina.
must enjoy sand in their crotches. I, on the other hand, do not.
If it's widely known that the Wings do this more than most, why wait to bring it up until when your team is on the brink of elimination?
What else did you expect?
mentioned the same thing to my friends at work. +1
Jon cooper from Ohio State football coach to being the Lightning coach
the Lightning are not nearly good enough for Cooper to ruin them. They would have to be much, much better for that factor to come into play.
For saying this now? Just gives Detroit more motivation.
does not get much traction after a 4-0 bitch slap. If you lose a tight one and want to call the wambulance, OK, I guess, but this is like NBA team losing by 30 and then complaining about hand checking.
I'm bowled over by the turnabout in this series between the Wings of years past and the Wings of now. They're winning with the exact style that used to frustrate them to no end. I still have bad memories dating back over 10 years of series where teams ground the Wings' superior offense into submission with clogged-up lanes and obnoxiously good goaltending. I like seeing the shoe on the other foot.
P.S. I'll take Cooper more seriously if he has a little chat with his guy Paquette.

I live in the St Louis area and the radio stations and fans here are beside themselves about the dismantling that Minnesota did to the Blues. The Blues had a very good regular season, but killed themselves in their first series by getting down after a little adversity. They basically gave up. I wish I could feel sorry for Blues fans...but unfortunately I don't.
But it goes to highlight what this thread points out indirectly in that the Wings know how to play playoff style hockey. Not everyone does, but Babcock and the entire organization knows how to get ready for the post season.
