In-state Preview of 2016 Recruiting
With the 2016 recruiting cycle officially beginning recently, I compiled a list of 38 in-state prospects to watch for the upcoming class. Several already have Michigan offers, and I think a few more could come. And even if not, there are guys on this list who will end up playing against Michigan in the coming years or who might be from your old high school. Enjoy!

In any case, the kid has talent and could end up on either side of the ball. My feeling is he projects more to the offensive side of the ball (which you said as well in your write up).

It could have been a mistake on my part, but I believe when I looked up Corley originally (this was about a week ago), he was rated as a cornerback. It surprised me, too, because I think most schools are looking at him as a WR. Now he's ranked as the #24 WR on 247's Composite. Things change pretty regularly on those Composite rankings because they take into account the four major services.

When is an Offer really an Offer? I ask bec. Falcon list an OSU offer..but with Kareem Walker already in the fold...would they still take his commitment?
February 16th, 2015 at 10:12 AM ^
Its hard to decipher which are "committable" versus "non-committable". But assuming Elliot jumps and Dunn transfer, they may need to take 2. Although, it is hard to get two top backs in the same class.

I don't think Ohio State would take Falcon at this point. Not only do they have Walker, but they also have 2016 ATH George Hill committed, who could play RB for them.
By the way, Falcon was offered before Walker committed.

If Michigan is going after him, Meyer will swoop in, blow smoke up his ass, talk him into commiting on NSD ( actually 100 am ) and then not use him. He did it with B Dunn and so far it looks like it with Weber. Just to keep a player that Michigan might have high interest in, Meyer will do whatever he has to to keep that kid from Michigan, with plans of playing him or not. So in regards to if they would sign him even though they have K Walker, I'd say yes.

Any JJ Watt type under the radar guys?
February 16th, 2015 at 10:32 AM ^
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say JJ Watt was highly over looked or just a once in a generation like leap.

That's asking for a lot, but I do like the Jalen Cochran kid from Canton.

I've seen guys like Pettaway an Fitzpatrick live and on film now on several occasions. Both impressive players.
Pettaway lacks elite speed. Reminds me a lot of Thomas Rawls in his running style. He had hopes of landing big time offers as a sophomore, but his lack of exposure in a weak division has hurt him a great deal.
Fitzpatrick is a very solid receiver who has the ability to beat you deep. He is good in and out of cuts but he is not very physical. At times seems scared of contact. Before he committed to Louisville he was getting a lot I love from ND.
I seen Hayes play a couple years ago and I remember him standing out (especially considering his age). Haven't heard or seen much since.
Seems like a poor year for QB talent. Not seeing a lot of depth or top end talent at the position.
Falcon is a solid player as well. Have watched film on the guy (mutual opponent) and he is solid. I don't see us taking him.
I've had a chance to see or watch on film a couple other guys here. Just not seeing that one guy who really impresses me. Awesome job with the list as usual. It's a great compilation and a wonderful resource to get an idea I what to look for in the state for '15.

I feel like this is one of the deepest years in terms of in state talent. Maybe no one that is an instant game changer but i see at least 7-8 kids that would be good additions to our class

Pettaway will get plenty of exposure at Detroit King.

Why are you surprised? It's an investment that will determine our future.
I have investements that will determine my future retirement. They don't directly impact anything right now, but I follow those suckers all the time.

Magnus, or anybody-I understand that top notch talent will vary from year-to-year. And we all know that demographic and population changes due to the long decline in the auto industry certainly has impacted the HS talent base. That said, with conditions improving a bit in the state, do you see HS football in Michigan continuing to decline over time, stabilizing, or on a longer-term upswing?
February 16th, 2015 at 11:49 AM ^
My own personal opinion is that football is going to drop off a little bit. All the new information about concussions is going to cause a fair amount of parents to push their athletic sons into other sports and activities. I think that will happen in a lot of areas, most likely with well-to-do families who can afford other sports or activities.
I don't think the economy's fluctuations will have much to do with it, though. The thing that will change the amount of talent is the population. If people move to Detroit and its suburban areas, we will see more talent. If people move away, we will see less.
February 16th, 2015 at 12:04 PM ^
And population trends seems a bit "muddled". I mean, the primary motivating factor behind a decision to move to or from a region is economics.
February 16th, 2015 at 6:58 PM ^
I guess I wasn't clear.
You're right that the economy has to do with population. What I mean is that so far, I don't think the uptick in the economy has really affected Michigan's population. So unless there's long-term economic growth, the population won't grow much. And if the population doesn't grow, then I don't see the talent base improving.
Hopefully that's a little bit clearer.

Football will slowly lose participants. I was fortunate enough to never have had any bad head injuries. But my older brother played 1-A fullback and had several concussions and now has terrible arthritis and has constant neck pain. I cant say for certain, but I'd guess if he could do it again, he would not have played football.
