The Harbaugh Prepares

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

Coach Harbaugh just dropped this gem on Twitter:

"Meritocracy- Process to determine an elite Team. Progress determined by Talent, Execution & Effort to ratchet up in Bo's house Feb 24th 2015"

I cannot wait.

ALL HARBAUGH, ALL THE TIME.

you must pay attention when our new coach tweets because in honor of Valentine's Day that sage grass-cutting marathon man, Forrest Gump, they are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

Last weekend, we were essentially treated to a phiosopher king's opening salvo in a new age of the rivalry, hypcrits beware when you cross the line, you will be called out. Let the guilty feel the heat, Mr. Meyer. Strike one.

This is a man with unshakeable drive to improve. Unshakeable and unbreakable. That's what this new regime is all about: getting better.

It was such awesome badassery that we lost by three TDs, gave up 446 yds on defense, and mustered a whopping 61 yds rushing.

Good thing that the BigTen championship will go to the coaching staff that sends out the most tweets to the fanbase.

Now, that tweet I really do like. I don't remember specifically, and I might be wrong, but I believe Harbaugh had mentioned that he wasn't going to go through a lot of film on present players in the weeks leading up to Spring Practice. That made me think we might be in for some interesting surprises in who begins to excel and where under Harbaugh's particular brand of development and motivation.

Reading through his tweets and looking back on his coaching accomplishments as well as his families accomplishments, I can't help but think that the Harbaugh family may have stumbled across the fictional (or not so fictional) drug in the Bradley Cooper movie "Limitless".

He really is always "50 moves ahead of you"

I love how the focus of Coach Harbaugh is completely dialed in.  He is already jacked up and ready for pads to be crackin and heads to be breakin.   I too believe that we will see a few of the under determined players leave once spring football comes to a close.

This is the first time that I can recall seeing a coach who is determined at all costs to make sure the product on the field on Saturday is the best it can be.  Under Hoke (whom I didn't dislike but thought the stage was a little too big) teams were lackadaisical.

The reason I use the word lackadaisical is because I do not agree with the "country club" attitude.  I really do believe that the majority of the players on the roster were hungry and just waiting to go out and perform at an elite level.  I do not remember what movie this quote is from but I believe it speaks volumes.  "There are no bad teams; just bad leaders".

With Harbaugh at the reins I feel that it is much more easy to pin point where the blame goes for faltering when things may not result in the desired outcome.  With Hoke it always seemed to be an easy answer of "we are competing everyday trying to get better" (translation: I do not know what I need to do to make sure my leadership helps develop a better product).  True leaders are much more identifiable and are much more valuable in trying times than they are when things are going accordingly (another knock to the previous HC).

I interpret Jim's use of twitter as a tool for both the current team as well as future players to make sure that they know exactly what is about to take place.  For some that may be too scary and they will bow out or simply go unheard of.  For the ones who view this as a challenge they are the ones who will succeed and rise above.

I love Brady Hoke.  I didn't want us to hire him, but once he arrived, I loved his sincerity, his focus on the entire player and not just on the field performance.  But how can we look back over 2014 and not come away with something being very wrong with coaching.

What did we finish, -16 in turnover margin?  How about some of the fiascos on special teams, or the fact that we took players like Golson and Nova and made them look like future NFL 1st rounders.  Or how about Leidner and Brown, who "randomly" played their best games of the year against us.

Somebody has to take the blame for breakdowns in coverage, missed tackles, missed blocking assignments, receivers dropping half the balls thrown to them, and turnovers like nothing I have seen in watching Michigan for 30+ years.  It was painful to watch, and as much as I like Brady Hoke, I can't chalk it all up to bad luck, or youth, or even bad coaching of fundementals.  Something happened that wasn't due to scheme, or X's and O's, something was wrong with the attitude of the entire team.  And it not being disloyal to point out that things need to change for Michigan to compete against the likes of Maryland, Minnesota and Rutgers, let alone MSU and OSU.

In shape and mentally prepared to go to battle on the field. Now if the QB and O Line can play up to potential we are looking at 8-9 win season at the minimum! Can't wait till one or two of our RB's go off for a season high 1200 each and others outside will start to think OH SHIIIT HERE IT COMES!
