He suffered a knee injury before his senior year.
So far you are 0-2 in your claims about Jay Harbaugh.
February 6th, 2015 at 6:25 PM ^
I referenced that very injury as the reason I didn't think he played high school ball. Since that's the reason he stopped before his HS days were over, that's hardly even a stretch.
I'm not even 0-1 in that paragraph, but since we're cherry-picking things out of posts now, I unearthed this illuminati message in yours...
"So far you are 0-2 in your claims about Jay Harbaugh. "
If we take the "Q" from Quattro and the "d" from suffered, add it to the above sentence, rearrange the letters, and then delete everything else, your post actually says GO AL QAEDA.
You terrorist son of a bitch.
February 6th, 2015 at 8:03 PM ^
Yes, you are 0-2. You said that didn't play high school football. You were proven wrong.
The rest of your post is gibberish.
February 6th, 2015 at 8:56 PM ^
Please keep talking about Jay Harbaugh. Your statements are only wrong about half the time.
February 7th, 2015 at 2:05 PM ^
you know that plenty of high level football coaches never played college football right? Or played at such an insignificant level that they might as well not have played at all?
February 6th, 2015 at 5:28 PM ^
Jay Harbaugh has three years' experience as an offensive quality control assistant with the Ravens. Whether he was qualified for that job when Baltimore hired him is debatable, but at this stage, to go from a QC job to position coach is actually a pretty normal transition.
It really only looks weird because 1) the rest of the staff is loaded in terms of experience (although it's common to have at least one young guy on staff) and 2) he's Jim's son.
Now to be sure, #2 is the reason why he's here, but that's not to say he'd be unemployed otherwise - I think he'd have landed a job somewhere else.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:30 PM ^
The transition from a QC job to position coach may be normal at a D2 or low-tier D1 school.
This is Michigan.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:37 PM ^
Not when it's an NFL QC job.
Conventional wisdom in football holds that any NFL job is a grade above its college equivalent (which is also why NFL types still can't believe Jim left the pros to come here).
If you serve three years in an NFL organization - especially a Super Bowl-winning one - that's worth a lot on your résumé.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:51 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 6:00 PM ^
Some people here are really overstating the prestige of a QC guy, NFL or not. If it happens all the time, please provide some examples of it happening at other top 10 programs.
There is no reason to take mild criticism of a hire so personally. He is pretty objectively underqualified. That doesn't mean I think the team's doomed.
February 6th, 2015 at 6:52 PM ^
Josh McDaniels followed the GA/QC route to become the Pats' QB coach when he was not much older than Jay.
February 7th, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 6:25 PM ^
No, it looks weird because he is 25.
February 6th, 2015 at 7:00 PM ^
If your plan is to go straight into coaching after college, you can land your first gig at a pretty young age. Loeffler was what, 26 or 27 when Lloyd hired him?
February 7th, 2015 at 3:39 AM ^
He had a job already and likely was not in danger of unemployment
February 6th, 2015 at 7:04 PM ^
no doubt couldve hired more experienced / reputable TE coach but harbaugh knows what hes doing. if hes happier with his son by his side while hes building his empire, thats only a positive - and further increases chances of him staying (as if the challenge of getting um to the mountaintop isnt enough or dueling with meyer).
every great coach started somewhere. even if jay does not grow into the best coach, everyone should know hes going to work as hard or harder than his pops and thats impressive. plus his on-field impact is limited at TE should he for some reason not be up to it - unlike HC or OL coach, etc whos impact as obviously incompetent coaches can just ruin teams.
so HC is happy. TE coach has work ethic and insanity in bloodlines. and hell bust it to prove any doubters wrong and show he belongs. the harbaughs may talk but they all seem like walkers too.
not to mention hes 25 and can and will relate to players and recruits. much easier to keep it loose and bond with those closer to your peer group - and the TE coach doing so has more of impact than GAs of similar age. that TE room will def work but it wont lack youthful banter which is great. and theres 2-3 others on staff who can always help out with TEs for whatever reason.
i like the hire (though may feel differently if durkin, drevno, zordich, jackson etc werent home runs)

where did you get the idea that Jay Harbaugh has no degree?
February 6th, 2015 at 4:40 PM ^
Wasn't Mattison signed for 750k as DC? His lesser role would explain the lower salary, but I wonder if he's still going to get paid the difference? Wasn't he under contract through 2016?
February 6th, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
Tweet said he received a 250K signing bonus, so his salary is the same at least for this year.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:44 PM ^
*200, dude. It's in the tweet at the top per Chengelis.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:47 PM ^
But I posted before the edit was made.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
He does get a $200k bonus this year. So only a drop off of $50k total. Which is still more than I make in a year. Eesh.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:42 PM ^
Greg Mattison signed the three-year extension in March 2013 that pays him $835,000 in 2014, $875,000 in 2015 and $915,000 in 2016.

Those seem about right. I'm surprised Fisch isn't a touch higher since he has NFL OC experience.
February 6th, 2015 at 6:18 PM ^
Fisch is basically a nomad - he is not even 40 but has had a bevy of jobs. He stays 2 years and goes. This sounds like a place for him to be for 1 year before the next NCAA/NFL offer comes up next winter. No harm no foul there - I said that for those worried about Fisch's background that at most you will only have to "worry" about him for 1-2 years before he moves on. Sounds like it will be 1.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:43 PM ^
What was Fisch making as an OC in Jacksonville. That one year contract seems kind of strange to me.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:47 PM ^
But you'd imagine that he took a pay cut.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:47 PM ^
It seems like there's an understanding that Fisch is here for just one year waiting for something better to open up more commensurate with his experience.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:43 PM ^
For what it's worth, Jay's allowance is actually bigger than his salary... so you know... it's all relative.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:44 PM ^
What about the Team Mom?!
February 6th, 2015 at 4:51 PM ^
She's getting paid in Campbell's Chunky Soup.

More importantly, how much do you get paid as a Recruiting Analyst? Like a TomVH, Brandon Brown, Steve Lorenz, etc. Those jobs seem more fun.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:59 PM ^
i had some wild ass guesses that i was going to post, but for some reason i felt like an asshole writing them down.
February 6th, 2015 at 4:59 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 5:01 PM ^
my guesses were pretty much in line w/ that.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:05 PM ^
My guess was around 100k plus more for clicks.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:07 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 5:12 PM ^
I dunno I just keep getting these emails saying that if I click this link then I can get paid $6708 per day and they'll direct deposit it if I give them my bank account and social security numbers. It was coming from 247sports or some other website so I figured that's the ballpark wage there.

February 6th, 2015 at 5:08 PM ^
Tom VH probably makes that, or maybe slightly more. Lorenz might be in that same range (he's well established), but I seriously doubt BB is making more than 50k.
February 6th, 2015 at 5:11 PM ^
February 6th, 2015 at 5:19 PM ^
Eh, not sure about that. Lower level guys at cnn and the like, sure, but established writers (full time) do better than that. TVH appears on ESPN occasionally, he has to be pulling close to 100k...

Honestly, I think there is a lot more money floating around than we think. Some bloggers make quite a bit - like $250k plus. I think the guy with the cat cheeseburger blog made a few million.
I also have a friend who works at the NFL - doing ad sales - and he makes like $300k, which is kind of crazy sounding to me considering that NFL ad space sells itself.
