I doubt she has anymore eligibility.

the immaculate reception was a long time ago...

Jay's playing a dangerous game here... If these tweets are about bona-fide high end prospects, then he's doing a great job of stoking a bonfire.
If, on the other hand, he's tweeting about us flipping MAC-level commits or a bunch of local kids who, under normal circumstances, wouldn't be getting a call from us... then he's throwing away his credibility before he can even build it.
February 2nd, 2015 at 3:51 PM ^
It's his job to be fired up about every recruit that we get.
February 2nd, 2015 at 3:53 PM ^
Nothing turns a recruit off quicker than not feeling wanted.
Well, not as quick as telling them that they're stupid, but that's another story.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:16 PM ^
"you calling me stupid!?"
"Wut?"
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
"Well that's a clever use of an oxymoron."
"What did you just call me??"
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:32 PM ^
"I may be a lot of things, but I sure as hell am not an ox."
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:35 PM ^
February 2nd, 2015 at 5:49 PM ^
"YOU TAKE THAT BACK!!!"
"No! I'm not going to reneg...re...ren...uh..."
February 2nd, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
He shouldn't show enthusiasm for any recruits dedicating their playing careers to pick up the torch of Michigan football and push it forward for four more years for the sake of ruining our day.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:05 PM ^
I didn't say he shouldn't be enthusiastic. He's playing to a crowd, though, with his tweets. He'll squander excitement rather than build it if we get used to rah-rah tweets over small things.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:09 PM ^
I get excited for a preferred walk on.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
And I'll be right there with you once they're playing the games on the field, whether the preferred walk-on ever even sees that field.
My point is that Jay is playing to an audience when he goes on Twitter. One audience is the recruits themselves and to that end I understand being excited about everyone.
But he's playing the the alumni and fans, too.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:13 PM ^
Not sure you should claim to represent the 'alumni and fans' since our straw poll suggests most don't agree with you.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:22 PM ^
Straw man. I never claimed any such thing. But hey, shine on you crazy diamond.
I have to be honest, I'm a little surprised with all the nastiness and hate for someone expressing a fairly benign opinion.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
I can't speak for the others, but personally find it a pet peeve when someone is dismissive of a teenager because they're not a 5*. As if the coaches - or even the fans - shouldn't get excited about someone joining the program unless they're really highly rated. Again, individuals much more highly qualified than either you or I think that each and every person they offer has a chance to be a contributor to the team - how is that enough? And why should you question that based on what some other less qualified individuals think?
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:38 PM ^
But that's just it. Go back and read my post. I wasn't dismissive of any teenager who wants to play here. Hell, I didn't have anywhere near the athletic ability to play at Michigan at their age, and I wasn't bad. I have nothing but awe for the level of athleticism that any recruit good enough to play at Michigan has, regardless of stars.
My post wasn't about them. It was about a coach taking to Twitter to talk about those teenagers. I freely admit I want that coach to treat all recruits with the same respect and devotion. All I was saying is that he's not just playing to that audience, he's playing to the audience of alumni and fans.
If you disagree with me, that's fine. But there is a malice being implied to my post that is, frankly, baffling to me.

I can see how my original statement can be read that way (stating an opinion as fact). It wasn't intended that way, but I can see what you're saying.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
I am excited about/for every kid that commits to Michigan, regardless of their recruiting rankings. Our coaches should be, too.
There is no possibility of negative consequences from these tweets, unless you're the type of person that only believes that highly-ranked recruits are desirable.
Harbaugh turned Stanford into a national powerhouse with 3-star players...anyone he invites that accepts the invitation should excite us.
I have never, NEVER been anything less than excited for a "Hello" post, and I doubt I ever will be. It's always a blessing to welcome another member to the family.
February 2nd, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
I'd like to think that you speak for a lot of us here and the fan base in general.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
Using your logic, I assume you constantly remind your spouse (or future spouse) that you're only sort of excited to be with them because they're not in the top 1% of attractiveness and intelligence.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:19 PM ^
And taking it one step further - children too. This Christmas I could've employed his strategy and told my youngest son I was very enthusiastic about his present (5 stars) but only marginally excited about his sister's gift (3 stars) and not excited at all about his older brother's present (preferred walk on).
February 2nd, 2015 at 6:45 PM ^
tells it like it is 100% of the time, no bs, no sugarcoating.
it's not very nice :'-(
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:26 PM ^
You're inferring an entire worldview to me based on the worst possible interpretation of a single post. Doesn't that make you even a little embarrassed?
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:36 PM ^
I'm glad to return your philosophy only pertains to rating teenaged athletes you've never met and not your own life. Phew!
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:40 PM ^
It doesn't. You are the one inferring that I believe that way. My original post had nothing at all to do with judging the kids we're recruiting, only how the coach is playing fast and loose with his credibility if he gushes over everyone in a public forum.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:54 PM ^
Then it might help to expand on why he shouldn't be gushing over every recruit? Because my interpretation of what you said it that he should be selectively gushing over the really important recruits, but not the less important ones. And there are many who like to express that opinion on this blog, and I find it distasteful. But if you meant something entirely different, then that was definitely lost on me and presumably many others.
Though if you did mean something different, it's hard to reconcile with quotes like this one:
"I just think it's a little much to go on twitter and gush about a 2* recruit. *shrug*"
February 2nd, 2015 at 5:02 PM ^
My point is that by gushing over everyone you leave yourself open to people dismissing your opinion (since, presumably, everyone is "amazing").
I'm all for you disagreeing with me. That's the nature of debate among people passionate about their team and alma mater. But there's been a lot of presumption that I think less of the kids, less of Jay and less of the program than I do.
What I said clearly struck a nerve, but I think people were pretty eager to read the worst and certainly didn't take the time to give benefit of the doubt.
February 2nd, 2015 at 5:42 PM ^
And my point is that he's only "gushing" over ~20 people a year because they've made a major life decision that involves joining his team. To borrow from your analogy, I don't think this is like saying "co-worker X is doing a great job" over and over, but more like saying "we're excited that person X has joined our company!" The latter *should* be the case anytime you hire someone, so hard to imagine losing credibility for saying it.
February 3rd, 2015 at 8:34 AM ^
Whose opinion of his credibility should he be concerned with? The alumni or the fans? Probably not, I am not sure even Mr Ross could affect his job security. Potential recruits and current players? I can imagine their line of thought,"He was a talent evaluator for an elite NFL team...but he gushed over a 247 composite 3*, so he must not know what he is talking about." Or what about Harbaugh the elder? I doubt tweets are significant to Jay's performance review. If Jim was worried about the way some fans assess these tweets, I am sure he would have communicated that to Jay by now.
February 2nd, 2015 at 5:54 PM ^
it appears youre in minority on that one and most here do not agree with you.
i just think you come across like an uptight tool - "playing fast and loose with his credibility" - the dudes a 25 yr old coach trying to share his excitement with potential recruits and michigan community.
hes not operating a recruiting service, running for political office, etc, hes an excitable guy and its likely he "gushes over everyone" who shares his passion / vision.
public or private, his pops needs him jacked up on daily basis serving michigan - with little regard for random critiques of his credibility
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:12 PM ^
the kids he's tryiing to recruit for the future are a more important audience than the fan base - he needs them to know he'll be excited to have them on board if they get and accept an offer to Michigan.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:21 PM ^
news that fires you up too. That's exactly what Twitter is all about.
Our coaches should be excited every time a player they've offered commits, especially this close to NSD. They'd lose credibility by not doing so, not by reserving their enthusiasm for the players you deem worthy.
February 2nd, 2015 at 5:05 PM ^
Respectfully I disagree. The coaches are the talent evaluators and I assume NO one gets an offer that does not have the potential to be coached up and win a championship. Therefore, every commit deserves to be considered the next "trophy" winner until they prove themselves otherwise. Just my humble opinion of course.
February 3rd, 2015 at 9:02 AM ^
Thank you for disagreeing respectfully.

Or just he's just going to do this for every commitment, as he should. He's not a reporter, he's a coach. He shouldn't be publicly celebrating the big names and ignoring the less known kids.

If every player isn't welcomed and whole heartedly for that matter, a family mentallity won't grow. Parents and future recruits will recognize that as well. Besides, for the kids this is one of the biggest moments in their lives and should be celebrated.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:28 PM ^
Except, you know...a player that will contribute to the football team we root for and come to this site for news about...
February 2nd, 2015 at 6:48 PM ^
You don't think those recruits don't see their coaches on twitter? You don't think other recruits aren't watching to see how welcoming the coaches are to their current commits?
Goodness gracious people
