Jay Harbaugh Continues to Hear Amaizing News

I know a certain Detroit News reporter who would frame it that way.
(FTR I love Jay's enthusiasm!)

Didn't he tweet something like this when Ulizio committed? If so, then his tweets, although maybe good news, could hint at a wide range of recruits.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:13 PM ^
Well considering that right now anyone willing to sign on is a good thing, I'd say keep at it. Besides it's nice to see the staff reaching out and trying to send a message to the public. Presonally, I think it's fun and hope he keeps it up.
February 2nd, 2015 at 3:54 PM ^
How is he throwing away credibility? Is he not supposed to be excited when Michigan gets a commit if the kid doesn't qualify as a high-end prospect?
All assistant coaches do this, I assume Jay will tweet out the same thing for any recruit they get, be it the number one player in the country or a lightly recruited 2 star. It is pretty insulting to the kid they just got to commit to Michigan if Jay doesn't deem them high-end enough to tweet out that it's #Amaizing news.

Good for them. Seriously. I mean that. I'm as much a fan of the team as anyone on this blog.
I just think it's a little much to go on twitter and gush about a 2* recruit. *shrug*
You don't have to agree with me. You could do it with a little less bitchiness, but hey, maybe bitchy is your thing.

I've found that aggressive-aggressive doesn't really do any good either. People are going to be nasty if they feel like being nasty. That doesn't mean I shouldn't point it out. Civility is a lost art, particularly on the net.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:34 PM ^
But, as you've proven, self-righteousness is not a lost art.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:43 PM ^
I posted my opinion on a wesbite. I've had people infer that I treat people in my real life like shit because of that post. I am equal parts baffled and self-righteous right now and I don't think that's unreasonable. LOL
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
I have to say, at this point, whether or not I agree with you, I am impressed by your apparent desire to stick to your guns and go down with the ship on this one.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:47 PM ^
Honestly, it's because I truly don't understand why people are so up-in-arms over what I said. People here are shitting porcupines because I dared suggest that Jay might be overplaying his hand a bit.

Ok. See, that was simple. We didn't even have to yell at each other.

February 2nd, 2015 at 4:31 PM ^
No, I posted an opinion. Lots and lots of people then chose to insult me for it, which is their right, I suppose. But you can't claim that I was bitching about anything. I simply said that Jay was playing fast and loose with his credibility.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:37 PM ^
You know... when you were a 150 pt poster I would have been excited if Jay Harbaugh tweeted about you. But now that you are -85 pssshaw.
Hope Jay doesn't say shit about you. I don't want to get excited about such a low rated poster.... and Jay would be playing a dangerous game....
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:49 PM ^
If anyone inside the Fort even knew I existed, even for something as crazy and baffling as the response to my post was, I'd be pretty flattered. hehehe

Thanks for the rational response.
I get that Jay's excited. Given that I trust Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff to get the most out of all our players, I have faith that regardless of who comes in we'll do really well.
As for the rest, I sincerely don't care a bit about the negs. Your comment about the hive mind is spot on, so I don't take that stuff seriously. What got to me were the people intentionally misreading and misrepresenting what I wrote.
At this point it's water under the bridge, though. I'm not going away because I value the information that's on this site and I'm not a fan of knuckling under to bullies. I probably won't post much, though, since the risk/reward ratio seems to be pretty low.
Anyway, appreciate the reasoned objections/disagreement. Have a good one.

Ok. Look at it this way. When Fred Jackson was forever finding new and better superlatives for running backs, didn't people stop believing him?
If every time one of your co-workers came to you for feedback on their work and all you ever did was praise it to the skies, even if it was mediocre, wouldn't you then stop taking their opinion seriously?

Another point: Harbaugh can't come out and say, "Glad John Smith committed to Michigan today, he's an Amaizing talent!" because it's a recruiting violation.
IME Harbaugh isn't even calling anyone amazing. He's just using the most thinly veiled, but still allowable, language possible to let his followers know that Michigan gained a commit.
February 2nd, 2015 at 5:44 PM ^
Yes, exactly. If he praises each recruit the same, then they all come in on the same level. Recruits don't just come in and get handed a position because of their recruiting prominence, they all start out equally. So this is exactly what should be happening. Its hard for an opinion to just be wrong, but yours is absolutely wrong. Change it.

February 2nd, 2015 at 4:41 PM ^
You can't be serious....The coaches don't give a flying fk how many stars are next to a guys name on Scouts or Rivals...they have their own evaluation process. They evaluate, offer and if the recruit accepts their should be celebration for all involved: coaches, players and their families.

February 2nd, 2015 at 5:09 PM ^
Heptarch, if a coach were to take the tone of "well, you'll do in a pinch" with lesser rated recruits (some of which could develop into great players with the right staff), then that not only gets around Twitter but will turn away more prized individuals. Who wants to play for someone who exudes some half-baked elitism based on subjective recruiting ranking? Jay is doing precisely what he should do here, and he's doing it quite well.
Also, as a mod here, I would urge you to sit the next few out.
February 3rd, 2015 at 9:16 AM ^
I'm not saying he should take that tone with the recruits. All I was saying was that you can overplay your hand if you're casting your praise around indiscriminately. But that's neither here nor there at this point. The reaction to my post was what it was. I'm surprised and disppointed at the venom... but whatever. It's not going to drive me away. I value the site too much for that.
I'll politely decline to take your advice, though. I've never been a big fan of allowing people to shout me down... but after this post I will let it die.
February 2nd, 2015 at 3:55 PM ^
So he should downplay lower ranked recruits so he has credibility with US????
February 2nd, 2015 at 3:56 PM ^
a prospect that has been offered a scholarship will be coming to play for them?
I don't think he classifies "Amaizing" based on stars or where they were originally committed. I could be wrong
February 2nd, 2015 at 3:59 PM ^
No offense, but if the kid is someone who our really freakin' qualified coaching staff want to offer, they should be happy when they commit. Doesn't matter if it's a 3* or a 5*. Not saying the probabilities of a 5* being a good player aren't higher than someone lower, but they're also not offering them because they don't see the potential for them to be contributors.

Déjà vu all over again.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:06 PM ^
As any coach should be he's excited when any kid with an offer committs. Also I'm sure he doesn't care about his credibility with those of us who cling to every recruiting tidbit.yes I do include myself in that category.
February 2nd, 2015 at 4:37 PM ^
Agreed. It seems like your ego may be out of control if you think your opinion on his tweets is more important than that of the other kids he's recruiting.
