Al Borges hired as San Jose State OC

He and GERG are now coordinators on the same team.

Have mercy on their souls.

Borges did a great job everywhere he went and had mixed results at Michigan after being forced to watch game tapes on a regular basis with David Brandon. I bet he does great at SJSU and proves that Michigan was his "outlier."

He better be a scoring machine with Gerg's sieve defenses. SJSU gave up almost 30 points a game last season. 41 to Utah State.
How Gerg stays employed remains an enigma wrapped in a riddle.
January 8th, 2015 at 12:34 AM ^
He came in mid-season when they were in total disarray--they'd just given up 550 yards rushing to BYU the week before he was hired--and by year's end he'd somehow lifted them to #31 in dFEI.
And SJSU's defense last year was a great improvement over the year prior. They were #115 out of 125 in 2013, #74 last year. 74 may not seem all that great but it's better than anyone in their division except SDSU.

Quote stats that show he's giving up 30 pts per game at SJSU and - negged?
January 8th, 2015 at 8:34 AM ^
from the Pros from Dover. Don't sweat negs, just do what you do and take it all in stride. If you worry about pleasing everyone, you'll make yourself crazy. Just don't be a dick or a flamer and you'll be fine. Just roll with it.

I take negs in style, can't please everyone, but some troll was wandering down the thread negging all critical posts re Gerg.
January 8th, 2015 at 8:58 AM ^
You had ONE downvote. Negged for complaining.
January 7th, 2015 at 11:36 PM ^
This is blatantly false.

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Tony Franklin installed the spread in Auburn with 8 days of practice after Borges was let go and that was enough for Auburn to have its best offensive game of that season.
January 8th, 2015 at 12:48 AM ^
...that was winning games 3-2 the following season and getting Franklin fired halfway through.
You're probably the only person that remembers the Tony Franklin era at Auburn as a success. He lasted seven games and put up something like 13 ppg if you don't count the cupcake games.
January 8th, 2015 at 12:52 AM ^
Its weird, its almost like Borges craters programs to the point where there is no quick fix. The same thing happened at both Auburn and Michigan.
January 8th, 2015 at 7:07 AM ^
I never said or implied that Tony Franklin's offense was a success. However, it was objectively better than Borges' offense after a grand total of 8 practices.
January 8th, 2015 at 2:08 AM ^
Tony Franklin is one hell of a bass player...and a good kicker too.
January 8th, 2015 at 7:59 AM ^
going up against a GERG defense everyday???
January 8th, 2015 at 10:49 AM ^
Stop with this nonsense. You weren't there and have NO idea to what extent DB had any interaction with the staff or ANY influence on game planning.
The staff and players are accountable for THEIR successes and failures. DB was likely as responsible for game plans as Hoke and Nuss were for Gardner's lack of field vision and inconsistency.

I'm surprised how some people have forgotten that Borges said Denard Robinson would improve in his second year, and instead he got worse. Al did a lousy job for Denard.
Remember that?
And what about how he used to throw the players under the bus with his B S, "They didn't execute." That is disrespectful to the players. Who's responsible for not teaching them how to properly execute?
How about watching the game while our wives or girlfriend or ten year old kid told us the play he was going to run next?
He didn't give our football players the best opportunity to succeed, which they deserve.
January 8th, 2015 at 12:01 AM ^
Yet despite your ridiculous and false claims...even if they were true, which they are not... Denard, Fitz, Gallon and many other offensive players LOVED Al and were not happy when Brandon fired him. That is the truth...

"sisters" versus your sister's wood. Either way, I seriously doubt the claim someone that you admit knows nothing about football could guess plays. I call bullshit.

than most of our favorite DC's and OC's if i'm not mistaken. and he got hired by RR to run a defense he'd never run before and with only 28 scholarships on his side of the ball. easy to cast aspersions, not so easy to actually put in proper perspective.

when he showed up. he had b. graham (we now know his true name was magnus) and one particularly good corner who left early iirc. then he had craig roh who greg thought very highly of even though roh was small for his position, and greg had/made walk-on kovacs into a stud- said he loved the guy, loved his heart and his head and didn't care that he was the slowest safety in the big10. i'm sure i'm forgetting a couple of guys, but i would like to see the comparison with other P5 programs about inheriting a team with only 28 schollies on one side of the ball (and not a lot of great ones) to see just how rare that is.
then run that 3-3-5 D, which i personally have never run nor have i played or coached against. i don't think it is a great D, especially for the B10. i don't know many college teams that run it nor do i think i have ever heard a single pro team run it, but would be curious to see if that's accurate.
January 8th, 2015 at 2:01 PM ^
Again, agreed on all points.
It's just the fact that anyone on this board could've led Michigan's defense to The Worst in the Program's History.
I have a feeling that some people on here could've actually led them to Not The Worst in the Program's History...if even only by a few yards.
Compare that to a professional coach...it's just bad all around, that's all. I'm glad it's over. Watching M run a 3-3-5 vs Wisconsin was one of the worst things I've ever seen on any level of football.

And GERG has even more championship rings than this Greg you speak of.

What if I told you, you could log onto an FBS programs' football roster and see "Offensive Coordinator: Al Borges; Defensive Coordinator: Greg Robinson" and it'd be real.
