Just said in the local news out here that he thinks the 49ers might make a change this week as it would be the only way the team could rally to make playoffs. That's how bad the rift is

is entering a "dead" period - so no visits are allowed until after 1/1 at the earliest after this week.  Phone calls are still allowed.

The only recruit I believe is really in flux would be Cole - who was planning on being an EE iirc.

If M lands Harbaugh or another "big" name coach - I believe Weber, Clark, and maybe even KLS might be back in play.  Also - isn't Damien Harris still uncommitted?

The dead period lasts until the 14th of January 2015. No in-person contact, but yes, phone calls are still allowed. So obviously the sooner the better if he were coming to Michigan. Hopefully he would have the same type of recruiting splash that Ohio State received when Urban Meyer was officially announced as their head coach.

I wouldn't know how to control myself in happiness/excitement/joy if this happens and Michigan picks him up.

So now we have heard from everyone regarding Jim's coaching plans for next season except from his gardner, his mail carrier and his 1st grade teacher.  I hope we can track them down shortly.

I feel JH would kill his legacy at Oakland. They are not ready to win for a couple of years. I feel Michigan has everything he could want to win now at every position besides qb and that's JH's specialty. His secondary is getting an experienced secondary in Lewis and Wilson and adds Peppers. He loses Jake Ryan which is a huge loss but adds experience in Bolden, Morgan, and Ross/Gedeon. The DL might be a bit of a concern but we still get 2/4 back and Ojemudia and Charlton are experienced which is much better than Hoke's OL situation in year 2-4. The OL is all back and started to gel at the end of the season at least for running and Mason Cole will be much better. Ben Braden was the weak spot so we'll see what is done there next year. Drake Johnson obviously came on in the 2nd half of the year at RB. Wide Recivers is probably a bit concerning if we lose Funchess but we do get Darboh back, Chesson, and Norfleet. I'm pretty high on the TEs in Butt and Bunting. They could help offset the WRs. QB is probably the worst but we do have Malzone and Speight who are two guys we haven't even watched and Morris who seemed to be ok against KSU. If we get Harbaugh we'll have someone who's at least managing the game. So basically we have a couple of issues QB, WR, and possibly DL. Compare that with all the problems at Oakland right now. Maybe he goes to another NFL team if he wants to stay in the NFL but I wouldn't worry about the Raiders.

I'm never one to do this because it's nuts, but let's connect some dots that we are 99% sure are not related. That's right, it's conspiracy theory time! We've known that Hoke was going to be fired for some time now. So has Hackett, so has Harbaugh. They've been colluding this entire time, and Harbaugh is tanking the season on purpose so he can be fired and hired by us quicker. To throw people off the scent, they leaked that they've talked to Harbaugh and he's more interested in the NFL. All of the stuff we see like press conferences and everything else is just theater. Of course I believe none of this because I still don't think we'll get him, but conspiracy theories are oh so fun.

Yost left the jug ON PURPOSE to start the first CFB trophy game, which eventually enticed Lou Holthhszz to come to Minny, where unbeknownst to most, he also ascended to the position of Illuminate Grand Master.  At one of the sacred rituals, the masked wife of a future M coach seduced a young assistant to forever kill his chances of returning to Michigan, thus increasing the odds that Harbaugh would be hired.

Amid the chanting, candlelight, and general mayhem of the evening, nobody even noticed the large yellow noodle in the corner.

If he didn't give it any credance himself, I don't know why we should. He simply did the math and made the assumption that the 49ers think they are more likely to make the playoffs without their head coach.

The likelihood of him being at not-Michigan next year is still too high for me to allow my hopes to rise. Until we start having nice things again, I will continue to believe we cannot have nice things.

I would love for it to happen but SF would be dumb to do it.  York seems like a hot head trust fund kid who doesnt give a crap but I assume even the GM is like "dude, wait 3 weeks and we can trade Harbaugh for draft picks" if JH indeed wants to stay in the NFL.  If he is leaving for college they are screwed either way so they may as well wait 3 weeks and see if they can draft picks from the team that "he chooses" if its the NFL route.

Two 3rd rounders or whatever is worth waiting 3 weeks.  That team is 2 games behind 3 teams now with 3 weeks to go, and the offense has been comatose for the better part of half the year.  They are not coming back from it even with (insert best coach ever anywhere) coaching.

Hmmm. With the discussion that occurred, a foromg would mean no responsibility for the last three games or next year, as michigan would ay that and a little compensation as well.

I disagree. While it's possible for an NFL team to hire him if he were to be fired, I don't think it's logical for any NFL team to HIRE a coach in the middle of a season. Bringing in a new coach midseason would be infinitely more disruptive than firing a coach midseason and letting an assistant be interim. If SF were to fire Harbaugh this week, it only increases our odds a bit, but maybe the odds simply hold serve.

See, I think other team's interest in Harbaugh makes firing him sooner rather than later much more certain.  The 49ers know they won't be on the hook for any of his contract.  They fire him and Harbaugh will be named the coach of some team NFL or Michigan within a couple of weeks.

While SF and Oakland are in different conferences, they are in the same geographic market. Right now the Raiders are weak competition to the Niners for the hearts, minds and pocketbooks of Bay Area fans.

If Harbaugh goes to Oakland and turns them into a true rival, if he makes them the hot San Francisco team while the Niners flounder, it could cost the Niners literally hundreds of millions in attendance, TV money and advertising dollars.

The ego-tripping Niners suits have to be afraid of that more than anything else.  Michigan would be far and away the safest place for the SF front office to have Harbaugh land.
