If Hoke is Retained...
I have read several times on the board today that if Hoke is retained they will basically quit watching/going to the games, and that will be the final straw. If he does stay on as head coach, what will you do? Sort of a fill in the blank, If Hoke is still here next year ___________.
For me, if Hoke is still here next year, I will conclude that we really can't have nice things.
It feels like the longer this drags out, the more likely this scenario plays out, but I really hope that is not the case.

Then I will seriously consider spending my $1000 for season tickets elsewhere.

You could buy season tickets for Central Michigan for almost 9 people!

If you and everyone who upvoted you could go post on arizona boards instead too that would be great.

live 330 or so miles away from A2 and I try to make it up for 3-4 games a year and if I'm lucky, catch them on the road for a game.
Ticket prices are bad enough along with the PSD ( mine came in the mail on Saturday, what timing!), coupled with a shitty product and shitty prices for concessions. I could justify the cost if this program was relevant on a national scope and beat osu and msu on a regular basis, but it's been a gigantic shitstorm for way too long.
I'm starting to feel that perhaps Michigan's best days are behind her.

I'm curious to know what your definition of criticism is. If you are taking about pot shots at players and coaches, I am with you. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing "fans" harangue a UofM player or coach as terrible, no good, idiot, worthless etc...
Having said that, if they aren't doing their job, I think they deserve criticism, but make it purposeful and check your ego/pissy attitude at the door.
This is not meant to be in any way a criticism of the commentary we have received from the likes of Brian et al MgoEveryone. They see problems with the program, give data behind said problems, and criticize accordingly. I'm fine with that.
Basic whinny BS is what I can't stand.

If he's retained it will deal a crippling blow to Michigan football and set us back many years.
Michigan football isn't forever. If the AD keeps fucking up enough everything that is special about it can and will go away.

It's easy.
If the team is terrible for long enough or if the majority of the fan base loses confidence in the program, people wont give as much money, they'll stop buying season tickets and they'll stop going to games. Fans who routinely drive from 2, 3, or 4 hours away suddenly will find the trip no longer justifiable and they'll stop coming.
Some of those things are already happening.
The much vaunted Michigan football season ticket waitlist is already gone. IIRC, there were 200,000 people on it, and last year the AD was practically begging people to buy season tickets.
We didn't even manage to sell out the majority of our home games, and as of this year we are no longer #1 in the nation in attendance. Ohio State passed us.
If we continue to suck those types of things will become less of anomalies and more the norm.
Before you know it Michigan football as we know it will be dead. We'll be just another team playing in front of a 3/4 packed stadium whose attendance varies wildly based on opponents.
You can scoff at this notion, but we're already seeing signs of a lack of interest and coupled with fans/students/alums feeling increasingly alienated by the AD.
Couple yet another failed hire with a string of 5-7 to 7-6 seasons and free ticket giveaways with the purchase of a bottle of Coke will be the least of our worries.

I never said it would "die," as in the athletic department will shutdown the football program. I don't know how anyone could possibly glean that from my post given all of the context.
I said everthing that makes it "Michigan football" will go away, thus Michigan football as we know it will be dead.

Watch about half as many games as I watched this year, which is about half as many as I watched the year before. I'll go to the IU game because it's an hour and twenty minute drive to B-Town, but I'll be mad. Very, very mad

I will still watch Michigan Football. The frustrating actions of Hoke including his stupid clock management cant make me stop loving the Wolverines and hoping for a better day. I wish he had the skill to be an amazing head coach here because I do believe he has the character and he obviously loves this program.

Then I will raise my son to be an MSU football fan.
He is only 6 months but even he can recognize good football versus a shit show, I can't raise him on Hoke's BS man, it just wouldn't be right.
Just kidding, of course, kind of, i think....

And I'll enjoy the extra leg room created by the 25% of season ticket holders who don't renew.

He won't be. If nothing else Hackett is a businessman. Hoke is bad for business. Very bad. They had 10K seats not sold in multiple games this year. Next year it would be 20-30K. You can accuse UM athletic dept of being dumb in football administration but in business its generally always leading.

On Mike and Mike this morning, Greenie asked Golic if Michigan football can ever go back to what it once was. And when he asked it, he sounded skeptical. So we're at that point, at the precipice of prolonged irrelevance which makes its permanence that much more possible. I just can't believe the university would risk this over one man who clearly can't perform the most basic tasks called for by his job description.
December 1st, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
Ugh Golic. He's entertaining but he is too ND to be rational. I remember earlier this year he was saying that ND was the best 1 loss team despite having played nobody.

because there's no way I'll be able to sit through another season of Hoke coached games without getting completely and utterly plastered for every single game.

being very pessimistic, watch the first few games, realize nothing has changed. Desperately try to give away my Michigan State tickets because I don't want to watch that massacre again. Probably not attend the last half of the schedule as we continue to spiral towards 1950's Michigan if we aren't already there and finally sit in Michigan Stadium watching Ohio State crumble away the last bits of my hope and faith Michigan can still get it right and return to the once proud football program it was.
