Barrett out for Remainder of Year with Ankle Fracture

Submitted by alum96 on

OSU is confirming surgery tomorrow and Barrett lost for remaining 2 games.  Obviously a huge loss.  Not a doctor so with modern medicine not sure if its worse or better than a ACL or if this affects 2015 but probably puts those Braxton Miller to Oregon rumors to rest.  Obviously injury can happen on any play to a QB but Urbz's system exposes QBs to hits more than any other.

Let's hope for better news for Drake who played fantastic today and while OSU D is not great it sure isn't Indiana's.  We saw the major drop off in the run game once Drake went out and at this point sets up a great 3 headed battle for #1 TB with Green v Drake (and I assume Isaac).  Would be a shame if its something that would have him miss part of next year.

It's really unfortunate to see a guy go down like that.  I feel for him.  I don't feel bad for the Bucks in that they're at a disadvantage in the B1G championship game next weekend, but I feel bad for Barrett, as no person deserves to be hurt.

I hope he recovers quickly.

If OSU manages to beat a likely top 10 Wisconsin next week, they should go.  But I don't think they'll beat Wisconsin.

That was as huge a break as we could have asked for, but we could not figure out how to defend a 3rd-string QB who couldn't throw.

Wisconsin will not make the same mistake.  They'll wipe the floor with OSU.

Is that we took out their QB, forcing them to use their 3rd stringer, and still basically got blown out.

In contrast, our 3rd stringer looks like he isn't ready to play in Michigan's IM league.

put their QBs into position to get hurt more because they treat them as RBs much of the time.  There is a significant difference between the scrambling of a Russell Wilson and Pat White running into the teeth of a defense 10-15 times a game. Wilson is away the defense whereas White/Miller/Barrett are running AT the defense.

It's the scheme, not the mobility that enhances the risk.  It's the price you pay for using an QB as a runner. That doesn't make it worse than any other as other schemes have their own flaws.

for a little more out of our community on this thread.

JT Barrett had become one of the most remarkable stories of the college football season (amazing what good coaching can do) and you want to face your rival at their best - all players in tact.  Hate them or hate them, their players develop and deliver on the 'next man up'.

Godspeed, JT.  We hope to see you next year.

And Devin, thank you for showing sportsmanship at its finest.  May we, as fans, exhibit as great of a commitment to the word.

It is a shame because I like the kid and would have loved to see how he closed out the season. He truly made the most of his opportunity. Who exactly did the same for Michigan this season? Without Barrett, would Ohio State be where they are right now? I don't think so.

went from "Braxton Miller will be our QB in 2015" to seemingly saying it was JT Barrett's job to lose says a ton about the kid.  His growth from the V Tech game to now has been tremendous.  Terrible looking injury (I hate seeing replays of those, which they insist on showing over and over).

I do think the committee will take his injury into account, along with OSU playing two close games at home against Indiana and Michigan to close out their regular season.  Will be interesting to see the B1G championship game and how Wisconsin chooses to defend Cardale Jones.

It won't get me any upvotes, but I don't automatically root against individual Buckeyes anymore. Part of that is just perspective from being 54 years old. Part of that is my brother-in-law, who's both a Buckeye and one of the world's great human beings. And part of it is admiration for classy young people of any affiliation. I consider myself a fan of JT Barrett - He's not only obviously talented, I think he's conducted himself well under pressure, and he seems like a mentally tough and grounded person. Kind of like his Michigan counterpart, Devin Gardner. I have to wonder what Gardner would have done playing for Urban Meyer ...

Anyway, this kid's injury for me just makes this game gloomier. I'm hoping that the future points up for both Barrett and Michigan, and that he'll look back on losing to Michigan 42-41 his senior year as one of his career highlights :)

I love the Wolverines, but when it comes down to the competition no longer any dislikes. Here's hoping Mr Barret and Drake and any injured football players have a dominant recovery. These fellas beat each other up for our entertainment.I know this that Drake Johnson is a heck of a back.

and how he handled that injury immediately as it happened on the field.   you could tell instantly it was a severe break, wicked looking.   no rolling around, no histrionics.   a cool customer.   and of course devin g. going out to say something, what a class act.

that said, i really hope wisconsin beats ohio like a rented mule.   go wisky, or big red, or whatever they call themselves.

Maybe its just me but I don't like seeing college kids getting injured by running them a lot at QB- these guys may never play NFL and have there whole life ahead of them. I like a fast delivery QB that doesn't get hit.
