Journey to 100,000 Open Thread
Couple that with flights not going in or out of Metro and icy road conditions closing down 14 EB currently and I see a lot of people sitting this one out.
Things are warming up on the south side of Ann Arbor and the beer is on ice, errr at Meijers still. Layers are out and rain jacket is pressed. Who else is pumped for Senior Day and half off hot dogs?

They're not leaving just fine--a plane slid off the runway trying to take off this morning.
EDIT: Also see:
Airport is not closed, all air traffic stopped due to icy conditions. Our maintenance crew is out trying to clear the roads.

It's a well established fact that the announced attendance is not the acutal number of spectators that come to the game.
It's number of tickets sold + non-ticketed people in the stadium.
There's no conspiracy.

So people without tickets can't get in?
November 22nd, 2014 at 10:30 AM ^
The athletic department does keep track somewhere of the actual number of tickets scanned, but it's classified information. They did announce after 2012 what percentage of students were actually attending, which led to the decision to adopt general admission seating, for example. But the weekly attendance figures are never based on this. All sports teams nowadays use the "paid attendance."

More precisely, it's every soul who is expected to be inside the fence - regardless of whether or not he/she shows up.

Yes, we know. But it doesn't make it any less pathetic when we're announcing 105,000 people in the stadium and it's blindingly obvious there aren't anywhere near that.
But, let's face it, the 100k streak should have been over 25 years ago. And again almost 20 years ago. So, it is what it is.

Main roads are OK, but WATCH OUT on the lesser-driven side roads, streets, driveways, etc. if you're getting here early. Not a lot of salt has been put out yet in these areas. My wife slid off the side of the road pulling into the car dealer lot this a.m. At least the freezing rain has stopped now, so it should be improving later.

Jim Harbaugh needs to buy up a few of those unused tickets so he can keep the 100,000 streak going into his first year as our coach.

I'll to miss but because a family member is in the hospital.
I've been to nearly all of the horrible season ending games over the past 10 years - drenching icy rains, etc. Still I'll be there in spirit supporting the seniors who toughed it out - they may not have racked up a lot of wins but in their hearts they are still champions - remember the correct quote is not winning - but the win to win. Devin Gardner and others always gave it their all in spite of a whole host of things happening beyond their control. Imagine if you were a top high school student hoping to study mechanical engineering, biology or history and after you came here, LSA and the Engineering College goes through massive upheavals - whole shifts in the direction and tone of the departments, faculty changes ...

You can buy a ticket for less than the cost of a hot dog and water at the concession stand. Still, even with the lost cost of entry, I'd be surprised if more than 80,000 show up.
November 22nd, 2014 at 9:10 AM ^
I'll be there. I'm not looking to the weather, obviously. However, knowing the weather will suck (unlike being unprepared for the cold at the last homegame) I'm dressing like i'm going skiing in rain. Can't wait to cheer on Gardner in person for one more day.

As I lay comfortably on my couch across the pond in Wisconsin with no chance in hell of getting to the game, WE CAN DO THIS! I have no doubt that 100000* strong will fill the seats of MIchigan Stadium.

Define "real, true fan."
And that sig. Because I'm interested as to who made you the authority on this.
November 22nd, 2014 at 9:32 AM ^
Who made him the authority? Why none other than the Real,True Fan Association or RTFA for short. Blueday is Chairman on deciding who contributes to Michigan athletics as well as True Fan designation, northwest division, and if you want your petition to be read during this week's meeting I suggest you get it in to him soon as there is quite the backlog for review.
BTW Blueday won the election for these esteemed posts in a landside 1 vote to 0.

That in itself gives him serious credibility in my mind.

but it's still Senior Day, which counts for something. Last game of the season. I don't think the streak will end.

The MMB just posted a picture of "Band Day registration" on Facebook. Did they throw together an impromptu Band Day to fill some seats or something?

To add to what the OP mentions, the icing is indeed spectacular - indeed, they are cleaning up an accident near the entrance to my own subdivision right now. There are now multi-vehicle accidents at I-275 and Telegraph in Monroe County, at the M-5 / I-96 / I-696 interchange, as well as on I-96 at Middlebelt, Greenfield and Telegraph. US-23 doesn't look promising either right now. I am fairly sure we could reach 100,000 (even if only briefly as the forecast is basically suck with continued suck) though as this is a dedicated, motivated fanbase even during seasons such as these, though getting there right now is quite the issue if you're local.

Honestly, if I'm an MMB senior, I'm pissed my Senior Day is going to be shared with a bunch of high school kids. That's what Crisler Concert is for, not an actual football game. They already had to give up an off Saturday to do some high school band invitational at the stadium for that Slippery Rock game.
