Michigan Player(s) plant spear in Spartan Stadium during pre-game
Apparently, per all the Twitters, some Michigan player(s) planted a spear on the block S during the pregame.
Does Hoke have any control over his team?
This is apparently why Dantonio went for the last touchdown (way to take the high road, Mark). But still, if there was ever a time to not disrespect your rival, it was before this game.
EDIT: Some Tweets:
"Them putting a spear in a field before the game is not a product of their team but their program." - Dantonio on the UofM Pregame spear.

Connor Cook was clear, last TD was because MSU felt disrespected before game. Said a UM player stuck a spear in field before game
— Matt Charboneau (@mattcharboneau) October 25, 2014
Buddy just asked me if Dantonio ran it up because of Nussmeier's reaction but just heard UM players speared the S. That would explain it
— Jeff Riger (@riger1984) October 25, 2014
And worst of all:
Hoke said he was somewhat aware that one his players put a spear in the ground before the game but "not fully aware"
— Mark Snyder (@Mark__Snyder) October 25, 2014
Perhaps, not worst of all. This seems dubious, so please be untrue:
According to the #MSU players, they saw a #Michigan players throw a spear down on their field during the national anthem.

Final Edit: Appears to not be on the block S. Here's the .gif

I call BS on 'speargate' for the reason they went for the TD. They didn't go for the TD... they ran the ball on all downs. If they had been truely going for running up the score they would have passed. An MSU buddy with me also said, "watch Dantonio just keep running the ball. He always does at the end of a game. It's the attitude of, we're going to run it, you just have to stop us"

True, he kept running the ball, but it's not like he was using the 2nd or 3rd string players at that point, like most coaches do in that situation.
October 25th, 2014 at 9:42 PM ^
And they kept snapping the ball with 10-15 seconds left on the play clock. A (classy) team merely running out the clock would have let the play clock run down below 5 seconds.
October 25th, 2014 at 10:17 PM ^
They weren't trying to be classy. They were sending a message to the team that they've dominated who came into their stadium and pulled a classless and immature stunt.

Spears in the ground? Sorry, Brady, but that is definitely not Michigan.
Bo would be appalled at such antics.

I'm just not sure I believe this. I can't find anything else about it, and I would have thought ESPN would have beaten that to death during the broadcast.

To their credit, they manage to find a way to channel their hatred of our program into points on the scoreboard. To our credit, we hand them the ball so they can do it. It's really a nice little charitable relationship.

Was it juvenile to plant a spear at midfield during pregame? Was it juvenile to stop the logo at midfield (as another poster here has said)? Or is only MSU capable of doing juvenile things? It's part of Dantonio's job to motivate his players, so how about your team stop giving him things he can use?
And what does it say about all the UM fans offended because MSU ran the ball on every down on their last possession to score a late TD? Or is it only an issue when we are offended?

F him. I'm sure he didn't have a hissy over Sparty students coming to Ann Arbor during the week with spray paint. People want our team to care, well, they do.
October 25th, 2014 at 9:19 PM ^
you really think it was just "one guy"? and not a single other member of the team, much less any of the coaches, assistants, grad assistants, trainers, etc. had anything to do with it? Nobody saw this one guy bring a spear on the team bus or out onto the field? Or several people saw this one guy bring it out but none stopped to ask the question "what is that for"? At the very least a lot of other people were complicit. Hell, even Hoke admitted he had vague knowledge, so give up the "one guy" nonsense. It's not even like the spear itself was a big deal, but don't kid yourself that is was just one guy.
Again, if you don't like that we play the disrespected card so much, stop giving MSU and Dantonio silly acts to use as motivation.

Who bitched about MSU running up the score? They ran the ball each down. They could have taken some knees after they had the first down and the clock was set to expire, but whatever, I guess that "proves a point" or whatever MSU fans need to do to make up for being disrespected. But if we went back in history and chronicled all of the real and imaginariy "slights" by both teams, they'd look pretty equal.
October 25th, 2014 at 8:50 PM ^
This fan base did a nice job of being offended by Connor Cook trucking and shoving Hill, pissy because MSU ran the ball every, damn, play on their last drive with little more of a whimper from the defense. That's just today. Every time Dantonio speaks Michigan takes offense, same for Meyer.

but not fully aware--during the National Anthem?
Really?

October 26th, 2014 at 12:20 AM ^
Is there any proof backing this claim beyond a couple of tweets/claims by MSU players? Because I have a hard time believing a player would bury a stake in the field during the national anthem. If so, he definitely should be taken to task, though the bitching by MSU is needlessly stupid.

If we'd won, then putting a spear in the middle of their field during pregame would be seen as a symbol of the team's fire and their passion and their staunch refusal to give up.
Instead, we got trounced and this is the reaction when the underdog mentality doesn't pay off.
At least they tried?

What would Nick Saban do if one of his players did this? No chance that player dresses for the game and is potentially suspended beyond that. This is ridiculous.
October 25th, 2014 at 9:28 PM ^
Saban is now a paragon of virtue?
October 25th, 2014 at 9:43 PM ^
That's not how I meant it. I meant it in terms of the control he has of his team. Saban is so revered by his players they wouldn't dare think of doing something like this. These players couldn't give a shit.
