was a different guy than Dan and a better fit for UM.

We were once told to shove it by a guy who was the head coach at Rutgers. Nobody has as high of a view of Michigan as Michigan fans.

This is true. It is also true that Schiano would never had said that if we had waved enough money in his face. Despite the past years, I'm glad we didn't, but he would've packed up and headed to AA in a second if the price was right. Same is true with Mullen except that DB would probably have to be gone as well.

Thanks for reposting this comment. Assuming it's all legit (I am), it captures the difficulty Brandon (or whoever) is going to face in getting an established coach at a power 5 program to move here. That's why I think we will end up with a coach who's either now at a lesser program or conference (like Schembechler was), or is somebody late in their career (like Miles or Cutcliffe) who will come here as sort of a short-term reclamation guy.
My fear about Brandon making the decision is that he'll take a second bite at the partially rotten Michigan Man apple and go after Cam Cameron or Scot Loeffler.

Yes obviously he doesnt know what is in Mullen's mind but that poster posted multiple photos of him and family with Mullen.
October 4th, 2014 at 3:58 PM ^
We don't even have that many problems assuming Brandon is fired. Next year's team will be the oldest and most talented Michigan team since the Carr years.

Dammit I was going to wait for the end of the game to make this tread!

I would not mind Mullen as the next coach, but he is not in my top five.

Im curious who your top 5 are ?

The Big Boy doesn't get enough mention. I like the cut of his jib.

In order:
Jim Harbaugh
John Harbaugh
Les Miles
David Shaw
Kevin Sumlin
October 4th, 2014 at 1:32 PM ^
As much as I'd love Sumlin I think that's a pipe dream, but never say never. Pursuing Shaw would be interesting, hard to know if he'd listen but he's clearly a strong coach.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:36 PM ^
Totally agree it is a pipe dream, but that won't change the fact that I'd love him as our coach.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:46 PM ^
Mullen is taking it to Sumlin today and Shaw is way to conservative.

It's one game and Mullen is at home. What is happening right now is not surprising. Can't win them all.

Mullen's definitely my number 4 behind the obvious.

Oh, since you say so. Bacon's out there saying he thinks one of those three will be our coach next year and he has personal connections with all of them. But sure, I'll believe ADSellers instead.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:32 PM ^
Which 3?
And where is a link to Bacon saying so - curious.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:41 PM ^
Harbaugh Harbaugh Miles
Here's the link: http://www.1230foxsports.com/media/podcast-fox-sports-morning-blitz-FoxSportsMorningBlitz/fsmb-sep-30-hr-2-seg-25361288/
Start around the 16 minute mark for him saying he thinks one of them will be here but the whole thing's a good interview.

He was there 4 years. Anyway his history with Meyer is longer and I bet the thought of coaching the Big Ten's other premier program is appealing.

Put me in the "i like this idea" camp. He would be my first choice as well. Even over the mythical Unicorns known as team Harbaugh. Cause I think if we got Mullen he'd stay longer than three years.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:03 PM ^
I don't see it happening guys sorry. Too much going against us. I don't see him going north.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:09 PM ^
He's from New Hampshire and went to college in Pennsylvania. Going north won't be an issue.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:08 PM ^
He'd be on my list of guys to interview for sure.
October 4th, 2014 at 1:13 PM ^
Their offense is sound, and their defense has been stout since the first drive. He is on the top of the list in my opinion. The problem will be that Florida will also come calling.

$4M+ for Hoke. Brandon had all the leverage in the world and no suitors for Hoke and paid him as if he was Urban Meyer.
For perspective Jim Harbaugh makes $5M.

that's situated in the heart of the nation's most fertile recruiting territory—and a member of the nation's most powerful and highly-regarded conference to boot—leave that all behind to come to a cratered program in a conference that's a national laughingstock in a demographically-declining region that doesn't produce nearly the number of top football talent?
People aren't thinking clearly here. Michigan is still a prestigious program, but not nearly to the extent and degree that it used to be. If Mullen is looking to move, Florida will be able to match any financial offer that Michigan can make.

I doubt we can pay him "a lot more" than Florida can. They've got wealthy donors, too, and they'll open up their checkbook if Muschamp is booted and MSU continues to have a good season.
