Noon Games Open Thread
Didn't see a thread going so I figured I would get one going. There are a whole bunch of thoroughly mediocre games starting, but it's football so you are going to be watching anyway.
Personally, I'm mostly watching PSU and Akron. Akron looked good early, but sputtered at the goal line and derfed a chip shot field goal. PSU is not having much trouble now on offense.
Purdue, Wisky, Nebraska, Illinois, and Rutgers are also playing. All are playing awful teams.
I'm also interested in this Oklahoma game. I don't understand why they are ranked so high.

Also, Akron has 3 points in 2 trips to the redzone. Could be doubling up PSU right now.

Thomas Rawls, yo.

I like that telephone technology in college football stadiums is still back around the 1980s, with head-sized receivers and curly cords. They appear to at least be touch-tone though.

Yup. Payback will be a bitch for PSU and I'm excited to see Michigan kick someone's ass on national television.

Illinois up 21-17

I'd be happy to see Penn State lose, regardless.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:15 PM ^
Why is Purdue still running the ball
September 6th, 2014 at 2:16 PM ^
because it's Purdue
September 6th, 2014 at 2:16 PM ^
Penn St. dialing everything up on defense.

OH MY WTF....where in the hell was the PI there? Are you fucking kidding me?!

Homer bullshit made up by the Holding call...
September 6th, 2014 at 2:20 PM ^
I know I shouldn't feel this way, but I'm a little bit happy that Penn State is struggling with Akron after what happend to us last year.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:21 PM ^
That shouldn't happen on 3rd and 25
September 6th, 2014 at 2:22 PM ^
Nice throw by Hackenberg
September 6th, 2014 at 2:22 PM ^
Is it me, or does Hackenberg bitch to the refs pretty constantly?
September 6th, 2014 at 2:24 PM ^
Penn St. about to cash in here. They (Akron) can't give up that 3rd and 25. Just can't do it. Game may have finally turned the corner on that one play.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:23 PM ^
And yes, I'm still incredibly bitter about last year's game.

I feel like Rawls is running harder right now than he ever did when he was here. It's too bad, i was really hoping he would do well here.

Man when you need to run trick plays to score on Akron... you have a great OL
September 6th, 2014 at 2:35 PM ^
But that trick play had no chance. At least when Michigan runs the double pass they can pull it off...
(Thanks to Wolverine Historian)

Penn State pulling out the trick plays for Akron.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:26 PM ^
Is James Franklin trying to get Hackenberg killed? Why would you ever run that play? They can't run at all, stop with the tricks plays that have all failed for you. Just go 3-4 wide that's your only weapon.
Franklin = Great recruiter, awful in-game coach.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:35 PM ^
And it's not like they're loaded with QB depth. Astonishingly weird call.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:36 PM ^
Is he the OC? Serious question.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
I think the OC John Donovan calls the plays, and Franklin gives his recommendation. At least that's how they did it at Vandy, I'd assume that's what they're doing now.
If that's the case I think he'd recommend a play like that never be run again.

Central is about to go up 35-10 on LOLurdue
EDIT: Or 31-10.

The slate of games today, with the exception of tonight's "big three," really, REALLY sucks.
Although, as mentioned above, I am kinda enjoying the Central-Purdue tilt.
Also...Western Kentucky just put up another 3 at Illinois to take a 27-21 lead.
Tough call tonight: Michigan at Notre Dame, OR Lamar at Texas A&M. Hmmm...what to watch...what to watch...

I am all about my Temple Owls hosting Navy...(ESPN 3)
September 6th, 2014 at 2:33 PM ^
Surprise surprise the conservative approach is biting Akron in the ass
September 6th, 2014 at 2:33 PM ^
I have to admit I don't know my full history of Big Ten teams losing to the MAC, but I have to wonder if this is going to be the biggest blowout of a Big Ten team. I can't call it the most embarrassing one, though, because Purdue.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:35 PM ^
Was in the car on a Saturday which I try to avoid and ESPN radio (105.1 in Detroit) was opining about how this could potentially work out to be the worst day in Big 10 history about 30 minutes ago with the early game showing and the "potential for losses by UM, OSU and MSU" tonight. Not that they are biased.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:38 PM ^
As long as Purdue is the only team to lose were good with the early games. As far as tonight's games go im actually optimistic. Im most worried about Ohio State having a poor showing.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:38 PM ^
Err.
I'm HOPING they do.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:41 PM ^
All this ESPN B10 Hate is making me hope we sweep tonight. I still want the Suckeyes to struggle but i hope they pull off a squeaker.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:44 PM ^
That's fair enough. But I will say this -- if Michigan wins, I really don't care much what the other teams do. If Michigan loses, I want EVERYONE else to lose.
September 6th, 2014 at 2:40 PM ^
I admit I watch almost no ESPN anymore so I was sort of shocked how badly they view the Big 10. I know we deserve it a bit but basically they have thrown in the towel on the conference unless MSU and OSU "can carry the banner tonight".
September 6th, 2014 at 2:42 PM ^
If we sweep tonight these early games won't matter and respect will be earned.
