Moore Could be a Better Recruiter (St. Brown Andecdote)
Everyone is understandably nervous about how well Moore will do compared to Harbaugh. Harbaugh is a once-in-a-30-year type of coaching talent. But he's not perfect.
Exhibit A - Amon Ra St. Brown recruiting story about Harbaugh awkwardly staring at him and not speaking for two minutes: https://fb.watch/pU_fN_IsLd/
Harbaugh is weirdo. Some people don't like weirdos. Moore has an opportunity to be a much better recruiter than Harbaugh.

"Harbaugh being weird" doesn't crack the top 20 of reasons why recruiting has been challenging at UM.

Apparently recruiting has been exactly how it needs to be. Went 15-0 and was best college team.

You are 100% spot on OP in your analysis. But I think you need to take that line of reasoning a few steps further.
Moore could be a better recruiter than Harbaugh
Then again he may not be a better recruiter than Harbaugh
Moore could be a better overall head coach than Harbaugh
Then again he may not be a better overall head coach than Harbaugh
Moore could get better assistant coaches than Harbaugh
Then again he may not get better assistant coaches than Harbaugh
Moore may win more B1G titles than Harbaugh
Then again Moore may not win more B1G titles than Harbaugh
Moore may have a better record against MSU than Harbaugh
Then again Moore may not have a better record against MSU than Harbaugh
Moore may have a better record against OSU than Harbaugh
Then again Moore may not have a better record against OSU than Harbaguh
Moore may have a better bowl record than Harbaugh
Then again Moore may not have a better bowl record than Harbaugh

Better use of time I recommend.

So far, early returns indicate that he has a better winning percentage against OSU. So he has that going for him, which is nice.

FYI - Rod Moore posted on his insta with all the snow in Ann Arbor today - “tired of this shit”. There is something to be said for reading tea leaves of course, but a testament to Moore’s recruiting chops will also be keeping our stellar defense next year in house without transferring. I think we will of course!

It's a good thing he grew up in Ohio and knew what it was when he signed up to live in Ann Arbor.
January 30th, 2024 at 4:03 PM ^
I wonder if Moore's post was in reference to the snow? In other words, might we not interpret his frustration as in reference specifically to the snow and not to, say, the sluggish nature of the assistant coach hiring process?

He’s obviously upset with Warde.
January 30th, 2024 at 1:57 PM ^
He could be the best recruiter since Jesus Christ, but that's not going to be enough until those NIL bags get heavier.
January 30th, 2024 at 6:11 PM ^
Yep. Money talks in recruiting now. Everything else is rabble rabble rabble.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:24 PM ^
yup! maybe!
What other things are possible??
Tomorrow, it could be sunny!!!
My water bottle might break in half!!!
We could be so bored post natty that we will all post things constantly until we get the slightest inkling of potential news!!

He's now the head coach. He'll get his own chance.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:29 PM ^
Well he climbed a tree for David Long and that worked out. Moore should recruit better than Harbaugh, but who knows with NIL and all that.
Harbaugh is polarizing so yea some might find him weird not want to play for him, but others loved him.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:34 PM ^
He also had a long track record of being a great coach and sending guys to the NFL.
January 30th, 2024 at 2:34 PM ^
The way your headline is written I thought you were suggesting that "Moore could be a better recruiter (than he is)" instead of 'better than Harbaugh' as you've intended it.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:10 PM ^
My apologies.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:10 PM ^
Until Moore wins a NC with his guys, this line of thinking is moot.
January 30th, 2024 at 3:42 PM ^
I can almost guarantee he is and will continue to be a better recruiter than Harbaugh. No knock against Harbaugh.
Moore is just better at it.

I'm at -24 for this post with NO RAGRETS. NEG AWAY.
It's offseason, y'all, relax.

I can't imagine why Harbaugh would think that a high level recruit sitting in his office would not be turned off by a weird two minute silent treatment like that. What's the purpose? Corum seemed to confirm it wasn't unusual. If Moore simply doesn't do THAT, he'll already be a leg up on Harbaugh.

You really thought this was thread-worthy?

I saw that between him and Corum. Blake seemed to be not shocked in the least. JH being a weird bastard is what makes him Jim and interesting. I’d rather have a weirdo than a wuss bag like Day.

Is the OP title inquisitive or an imperative? Also, some of us enjoy awkward weird :). But Sherrone may indeed be better than previous head coach. But will new OC be a better recruiter than his predecessor? And where do the bags of cash fit into all this?
January 31st, 2024 at 7:02 AM ^
He is absolutely unique. Some may say weird. Just because a kid is a 4 or 5 star talent doesn't mean that he will fit into the culture and family that was being built. I trust Harbaugh has a way of finding out who will fit into the culture. If you are a money first type of recruit, you won't fit into the program, ie Underwood and Moore, not sure about Carr. Obviously, JJ and Jaydn are the exception. Maybe Amon wasn't a fit at that stage of his life. Here is to hoping all the money spent at OSU for players doesn't work out well for them.
