Will You Root For the Chargers? and Will Jim Win A Super Bowl With the Chargers?

Submitted by FlaWolverine22 on January 25th, 2024 at 7:09 AM

I want to start this off by saying I love Jim Harbaugh. I’m very thankful for what we accomplished here and I will absolutely root for him to succeed in the NFL again. As far as winning a Super Bowl, I’m not so sure he’ll be able to win one. I think he’ll make the AFC Championship Game twice in 5 years. I can’t see him making it past Mahomes, Burrow and Josh Allen right now.

No and... probably not, though they've drastically improved their chances by getting a true difference making coach, the odds are still pretty long.

No I won’t root for the Chargers as I am a Lions fan. Don’t really believe in having a second team. He might win a Super Bowl for the hundreds of Charger fans but he has an uphill battle there. The AFC is pretty tough and the roster and cap situation there isn’t great. Jim is a winner though and best of luck.

I wish Jim well in LA. Am not really going to root for the Chargers unless they make the playoffs. If Jim can do that within a few years, then I will get excited.

Yes and Yes. Why? If he does to the Chargers as he has done with USD, Stanford, 49ers, and Michigan, it will cement, with no doubt, that he is one of the greatest football coaches ever to coach the game by winning both the Super Bowl and CFP. It will also put to rest any doubt about him and Michigan when the scumbag fans of certain teams try to use their pathetic talking points in trying to diminish his great accomplishments.

If I wasn't clear enough, I hope, wish, and pray Jim wins a Super Bowl as the HC of the Lost Angeles Chargers sooner rather than later.

Pull it down!!!!!

Is it that different?  A strong O-Line and Defense still wins - if you have a top 10 QB, which the Chargers have.  I think he will be fine...get a few stud O-Lineman (could be tough with the salary cap) and they have a chance.  The Chargers recent coach was awful and they still almost won a playoff game last year.

Yeah, I've got no issue with him going to the NFL and I need an AFC team anyway.  But I'm not sure he'll win a title there; Herbert seems like a pretty good QB but the roster isn't great around him and is going to be dealing with cap issues for a bit.  I think he can help make them a more consistent winner but a big reason he did so well so quickly at SF was they had a nice roster with good draft picks even before he arrived.  We'll see what LAC looks like in a year or two but the margin of error is thinner.

Harbaugh gave us the best Michigan football of this century.  Why wouldn’t I root for him to succeed?  Personally, I think his style is better suited to college kids who are around for a few years rather than older pro players, who may find it weird after a few years.  But he did it once, I suspect he can do it again.

I honestly couldn't tell you if the Chargers will win the Super Bowl in the foreseeable future - it certainly doesn't seem likely. That said, I think that Jim Harbaugh has certainly earned the right to see if he can find out if they can under him. I would imagine that he can at least improve their outlook, if nothing else.

All that said, I am a Lions fan. There is no way I am going to trouble myself with anything that sniffs of even bandwagon Chargers fandom. Why would anyone do that?

No and I doubt it. Jim gets to scratch his NFL itch and I get the want but he’ll never have what he has in Ann Arbor, total adoration. I think the Chargers franchise is a hot mess and I’m not sure Jim can fix it.

I'd feel a lot better about this if Warde had gotten Jim the contract he asked for earlier and then had it rejected instead of acquiescing at the eleventh hour when it was too late. Now we may never know if staying was even possible.

I hate the deafening sigh of relief I’m hearing coming from Cbus.

IDK yet. But who I won't root for is the Big Ten and little Tony, who ran our coach out of town for *checks notes* winning football games.

Fuck no will I root for the Chargers. I'll root for Jim Harbaugh. Jim needs to go coach the Ravens (favorite team), Lions (home team), or Jags (don't ask) if I'm supposed to root for the team he coaches.

I root for Rashan Gary, but I don't sure don't root for the team he plays for. Same thing.

And no, they're not winning a Super Bowl. Although I think Harbaugh is the perfect coach for them offensively. Herbert is built for the Michigan offense. He's got all the tools, but you don't want his robotic ass checking it down 20 times a game.

I've always said, he'd be a menace in SF for the same reason.

They have talent on D, Minter would capitalize on that...but Warde and Sherrone are about to throw him $3M per to stay at Michigan (per the dream I had last night), so Harbaugh will need to find another DC.

Go get Wink Martindale.

I play fantasy football, so I root for the Lions and the players on my team. Don’t think Harbaugh with the Chargers is a big enough draw for me to care about them. Also, highly doubt they win anything.

I wish him well but I don't really follow the NFL and if I did, it would be the Lions more likely. So no, I won't root for them.

As for a super bowl? Ehhh. I don't think it will happen for awhile and I don't think it'll happen as fast as the Spanos expect. Unfortunately for Jim, I believe that the Spanos and the few fans they do have are going to have very unrealistic expectations

I loosely follow the NFL. Closer the last 15 years as my buddy played for the bills and my wife is from there (and her family are rabid fans...I mean go to away game type of fans). I just can't latch onto the NFL outside of casual viewing.

That said, I will root for harbaugh and could for sure see myself watching some games and loosely rooting for them.

It will be bittersweet to watch Jim win or lose with the Chargers.

If he wins (especially a SB), awesome for him and he can truly cement himself as one of the greatest coaches to ever do it.

If he has minimal success, he can go through the Belien stages of grief for leaving Michigan, a place he knows he loves deeply.

I have a fan fiction narrative I want to start….

Jim, whether super successful and satisfied, or coaches a bunch of mediocre Chargers teams the next 5 years, will not last longer than the 5 years in LA. He wears out his NFL welcome either way…

…And Sherrone, has 5 years of great success carrying on the Jim Harbaugh method here at Michigan, like sort of a David Shaw 2.0++, and then the Oklahoma job opens up, and his heart strings are pulled back to his Alma Mater in Norman.

Michigan job comes open and who has overstayed their welcome in the NFL again?? None other than James Joseph Harbaugh. A new and competent AD and some new regents are at the helm at Michigan and Jim is welcomed back with open arms to finish out his stellar football career as a Wolverine.

the end.

all these “the chargers will never win anything” comments are adorable.  have you paid ANY attention?  the guy builds programs and wins, big.  period.

Mixed feelings.

I can't believe he took that gig.

I wonder if he would have stayed if college football wasn't such a dumpster fire and so poorly managed.

But no, I won't root for him.

You're either a Wolverine or you're not and he chose to be a Charger - and to be honest I'm not a big fan of the NFL.

I will always root for Jim. He is our guy. NFL generally forgets Defense just like College ball. You need a good balance. There is a reason Patriots won so many. I don't see Chargers become a dynasty but Harbaugh will emphasize old school Football to get past stars at QB. His style will be similar to John Harbaugh.

of course....

hoping jim doesn't succeed with the Chargers, imo, is about like hoping JJ doesn't succeed in the NFL because he left Michigan when he could have come back.

I hoped Jim would retire from coaching as the head coach at Michigan, but he wants to win a super bowl, so that's not going to be the case.   Jim built Michigan back up from the ashes that were left by RR and Brady, into a perennial contender and a National Champion..... He did all anyone could have reasonably asked him to.    He even agreed to let Sherrone Moore coach three of the biggest games of the regular season, to prove he was ready to take the team over.  jk.... not jk

Onward!  GO BLUE!

Yes, I will cheer for Harbaugh and the Chargers.

I have no clue if the Chargers will win a Super Bowl while he's there, but I hope they do, as long as it's not at the expense of the Colts.

Tough to root for a team that sold its home town fan base down the river, to become just another soulless money printer in LA. That said, I love me some JJH so maybe I’ll find myself rooting for them.

Will he win it all? I’d bet on it.

Not really a huge nfl guy, especially compared to UM football and the Red Wings.  I’ve been a casual a fan for a long time as a Chiefs fan (1995 when Montana was acquired), and a budding Lions fan (because of Aiden).  I won’t cheer against the Chargers, and I’ll probably cheer for the Chiefs less now. I hope for the best for Jim, so if that means a Super Bowl win, I hope he gets it.  As for whether or not he’ll have success in LA, who can say?  Maybe he gets poached by Dallas next year or ends up in Baltimore after John retires this season after getting a 2nd Super Bowl.

He'll somehow find a way to make the Chargers relevant, maybe even SB competitive - he's that good a coach again.  I won't necessarily root against him, but as far as NFL teams go I didn't give a shit about the San Diego Chargers, why would I care about the LA Chargers?  And honestly, a team that leaves the town it grew up in over nothing more than a stadium funding tiff can fuck off.  The fact that they went to LA - a soccer town that hardly supports any NFL team - I kind'a hope they stay in the shitter.

If they're going against some other random NFL team, sure, I hope Jim gets a win.  Against a team I like, no, I hope he gets a loss.  Far as I'm concerned, he's just another NFL coach right now.  Good luck to him, I wish him well, but I won't necessarily root for him anymore than I root for Pete Carroll's Seahawks teams.

No, I will not root for the Chargers and my reasoning is largely based on the league itself. Owners despotic control, teams moving to the desert, in stadium experience and prices largely designed for corporations. As to the Chargers, yes, they technically started in LA, however, they built the team in SD. Abandoning those fans is terrible. I will always credit the Ford fam for keeping the Lions in Detroit. If I have a rooting interest it is honestly the happiness of Lions fan. Weird I know.

Do I hope Harbaugh reaches his dream? Yes. I also hope he retires at 65 to play with his kids and grandkids. I subscribed wholesale to his competitive spirit for a long time until I finally realized this season that the NCAA hates him for it and will never let him just coach the damn team. Also, it seems like bureaucracy at UofM played a role in his departure too.

Do I think he wins an SB? He will likely die trying. Hopefully the organization can turn it around to give him what he wants. He builds teams and makes lasting imprints. So maybe?

There's a really top heavy group of QBs in the AFC right now which I would rank as follows:

Mahomes

Allen

Burrow

Jackson

Herbert

Lawrence

Stroud

It's going to be extremely difficult to come out of this group in a given year. I do think Harbaugh will turn San Diego into an annual playoff team barring a Herbert injury, but from there its hard to see a path forward that doesn't involve quite a bit of luck, especially with the current construction of the Chargers roster.

I won't really be rooting for the Chargers but I won't be rooting against them.  It's kind of like Tom Brady.  It was nice to an alum win all those super bowls but I can't say I was rooting for the Patriots.
