Alabama Freshman All American safety Caleb Downs transferring to OSU
Goddamn, Ryan Day ain't fucking around
Former Alabama safety Caleb Downs commits to Ohio State - Pete Thamel http://espn.com/app

Ohio state taking the Miami route with cash for a date. All these five stars are going to be eating up all of the other five stars playing time along with potential NFL draft stock. We'll probably see 75% of these players enter the portal next year with their bags of cash in hand after their fanbase runs them off for losing one game. If we beat them next year then ohio state actually turns into Miami for the next decade because that booster money will dry up quick.
January 20th, 2024 at 9:01 AM ^
OSU does have a real mail order bride vibe.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:05 PM ^
JFC - how much money do they have? I mean, it'll be a 'team' of mercenaries, so nothing much to worry about. Except that they're coming together to beat Michigan - and nothing else. That is the only thing on Day's mind, anymore...
January 19th, 2024 at 9:32 PM ^
"JFC - how much money do they have?"
Indeed. I commented elsewhere in this thread, too.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:06 PM ^
This is getting out of control. I get the development of Michigan players and all, but I don’t like the way this is going.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:06 PM ^
Unless the OSU coaches can create a locker room culture that mimics what Michigan has done and figure out how to play complimentary football in a short period of time, OSU will most likely end up like TAMU. It will be a team of great individual talent getting paid to play but a team that can't put it together. And let's see how many of these players stick around after spring ball.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:09 PM ^
I doubt it.
Ohio State will be really good next year. It sucks to say, but what they are doing this year is the same thing Michigan did last year.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:11 PM ^
Except they lack the culture and leadership Michigan has/had. Who are their program guys? JTT? They just chased out the starting QB. Wouldnt surprise me if their offense is disappointing
January 19th, 2024 at 9:17 PM ^
Except that they ran their QB out of town and their best player by far went pro.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:25 PM ^
Try as they might, they will never have a Sainristil or Barrett or Jenkins. To me, that's what put this team over the edge to legend status
January 19th, 2024 at 9:45 PM ^
They will be good, but there is no way they aren't seeing diminishing returns at this point. They are loading up on talent, but there is no way these additions (including the new OC) won't foster some locker room and staff tensions.
January 19th, 2024 at 10:02 PM ^
They were really good this year, too, and had a WR so good that he could single-handedly change take over a game.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:08 PM ^
Man OSU is spennnnnding like crazy this offseason. We shall see how the flaccid leadership of Day with some BoB does with this roster. Defense is gonna be good again, offense TBD. We’ll see how the mercenary squad does. I thought their culture already sucked and now you’re adding a bunch of new hires you bought.
If we beat them in Columbus this year, Day might get fired the next day
January 19th, 2024 at 9:45 PM ^
Might get fired the next day? I wonder if the new AD from A&M doesn’t chat with him before he gets to the locker room after the game.
January 19th, 2024 at 10:17 PM ^
It's a bit ironic them planning to beat us by buying a bunch of players who just lost to us.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:09 PM ^
Their team is going to be stacked next year. I can only see Georgia being a heavier favorite to win a national title.
If Day somehow loses to Michigan again, there's no way he survives and I assume the school borderline shuts down out of utter despair. Although, if I was an OSU fan, I would like my odds against Michigan who is losing most of their offense and probably their HC and DC.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:29 PM ^
Yea, I'm getting pretty nervous. OSU super team (even more than normal, like on steroids), plus new UM HC, DC, new QB. And a road game to boot, plus the many tough games UM has leading up to that. It would be the biggest regular season UM win of the past xx? years, even bigger than the last 3 OSU wins, IMO. This last year came down to the last minute/play, in AA, and now OSU gets better and UM gets worse and its at the Shoe.
But I'll have the last 3 years to keep me satiated. We weren't going to beat them EVERY year forever.
January 20th, 2024 at 11:57 AM ^
Oh yeah I don't feel good about beating them at all. They are clearly the better team at the moment. We're going to be breaking in a new QB, replacing all 5 starters on the OL, in an offense that wasn't even great to begin with, probably losing Harbaugh, probably losing Minter.
Michigan looks like a 9-3 team next year with an Iowa like offense (like a Nate Stanley/CJ Beathard era Iowa) and maybe even a step down on defense because of coaching. The lack of recruiting was going to catch up eventually and Harbaugh leaving us with a first time HC who runs an offense that just lost almost all its best players doesn't really incite confidence.
January 19th, 2024 at 10:03 PM ^
They simply do not currently have a championship level OL or DL.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:10 PM ^
Wow, saban retires and half of their team heads to the portal for the highest bidder.
Wonder where their five star QB recruit ends up $$$$$$??????
So glad we got our national championship before college football turned into a total farce....
January 20th, 2024 at 12:09 PM ^
Our own conference tried to crucify us this year, but they're letting OSU tamper and offer money to kids to transfer to their school. It was already a farce.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:12 PM ^
Not worried. Still got to coach em up, which is a problem for Day.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:13 PM ^
Wow, they’re adding more 5*s this weekend than we’ll have on our roster next year. There is no arguing their D is going to be insanely good next year.
We’ll see if they will be 5* psychologically and philosophically come November.
I mean, even their transfers lost to Michigan
January 19th, 2024 at 9:16 PM ^
Their D won't be any better than ours next year.
I expect it will be similar to this year, where both teams have 2 of the top 3 defenses in the country.
I still like our D-line and O-line better. They'll have us beat at the skill positions, per usual, but again, I'm quite happy with Mullings, Edwards and Loveland come November.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:28 PM ^
I think the quality of the defense will still be excellent next year, but would be shocked if we don't lag behind OSU in raw numbers defensively. We play Texas, USC, and Oregon. They're playing against Akron and Iowa
January 19th, 2024 at 10:10 PM ^
I think their DL is good but not elite. Their LBs were a weakness last year and they lost both those guys...but that secondary though.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:13 PM ^
They are so broken, it's actually quite remarkable.
They are literally buying a super team after losing to UM for 3 years in a row and watching us win the National Title.
Nothing they do or win will feel organic or even authentic with this team. Nothing they do going forward will ever compare to the last 3 renditions of The Game and what UM accomplished at 15-0 this year.
The final year where The Game meant so much and the final year before semi-amateur collegiate athletic football goes full NFL minor leagues and it was Michigan, Michigan again that closed it out.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:14 PM ^
Somebody is losing some kneecaps when they don't win it all.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:14 PM ^
This is hillarious. ALA and OSU need to join forces to try to take ol' University of Michigan down
January 19th, 2024 at 9:17 PM ^
Let me see if I get this right. OSU added a RB, CB and QB. They've lost the last three years because our lines controlled the line of scrimmage. It doesn't matter how good your RB is if the line can't open holes. It doesn't matter how good your QB is if the pass rush won't give him time to set up. And your CB won't matter if your DL can't stop the run.
I would take them more seriously if they threw all that NIL money at Kayden Proctor.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:39 PM ^
That could still happen.
January 19th, 2024 at 10:10 PM ^
Agreed except that Proctor clearly wasn't an issue for us. Plus, he'd be getting worse OL coaching that he had at Alabama.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:18 PM ^
Going all in. I wonder how much this will all cost them.
January 20th, 2024 at 3:00 AM ^
$13 million, just like they said it would.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:18 PM ^
With FSU and Florida getting popped for inducements, I hope we hired a PI back in November and are getting our dossier ready to hand over to the NCAA at an inopportune time for OSU.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:19 PM ^
Nah. We'll just beat them on the field.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:34 PM ^
That would be hilarious and just.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:42 PM ^
Please, somebody make this happen. You know there has to be some illegal sorcery going on to pluck that many 5 stars out of the portal.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:22 PM ^
Day wasn't joking when he said he was gonna hang a hundred!!!!
I just didn't know he meant a hundred million to buy a team to save his job & try to beat Michigan
January 19th, 2024 at 9:23 PM ^
They've had boatloads of more starrzzz and pure talent than Michigan the last three years. And it hasn't mattered. All I see are three straight losses to Michigan.
Can’t hear their cheers anyway. I’ve got a national championship trophy in my ear.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:29 PM ^
So O$U does what they do best and drops a bag for a kid. Urban's toy reporter Petey breathlessly reports on his heroes, ignoring the obvious real cheating going on and no one bats an eye.
When is someone going to write the book of how Thamel really "broke" his story that was spoon fed to him and leaked out one detail at a time to create media hysteria? I'd love to see the text chain between him, Urbz and Ryan Day.
And best of all, those 3 idiots sprung it at the wrong time! Imagine if the Stallions thing had only come out now and the 4 letter network was running daily video of him on the sidelines vs Bama and in the Natty.
As usual, Michigan gets arrested for jaywalking while the rest of the world commits armed robbery in broad daylight. Luckily for us, the bozos from Ohio did it all wrong.
Please JUB, write THAT book!
January 19th, 2024 at 9:33 PM ^
I’m really hoping that all these recent Ohio State shenanigans opens the eyes and ears of the SEC schools. I don’t think that the SEC schools will tolerate a taste of their own medicine and an Ohio State University will be getting investigated by the NCAA soon!
January 19th, 2024 at 9:35 PM ^
Take all the guys who haven't beat Michigan. But I guess you have to since no one has.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:40 PM ^
We've taken a lot of portal transfers that were handled by OSU at their former schools. Go easy.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:35 PM ^
Can't buy a championship with CFB players only interested in money. Besides, that OL down there is still ass.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:35 PM ^
Have you or someone you know been beaten or battered by Michigan? Come to Columbus.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:37 PM ^
Day is just getting a support group together is all.
January 19th, 2024 at 10:50 PM ^
Not enough room for all of 'em
January 19th, 2024 at 9:36 PM ^
No pressure on Michigan in The Game next year. And if we win, Columbus will be worse than Chernobyl.
January 19th, 2024 at 9:37 PM ^
We could double whatever they’re throwing at all of them, and yet…
