With signing day wrapped up, what are your thoughts?

With everyone signed and ready to go, including 2 portal guys, how are you feeling about this class? Any favorites or players you think will be better than advertised??

Myself I think it's a pretty solid class with a chance to have some big time players in it. I really excited to see how Cole Sullivan turns out and if a wr sets up to be a legit #1 option.

I think the class is super solid and am excited for Edokpayi to be a QB destroyer in a couple years. I am a bit disappoint that there wasn't a 5 star or four (thankfully there wasn't a 5 star RB) in the group. I had hoped that all the winning over the last couple of years would've helped there but the bag speaks louder, understandably so.

3 straight OSU wins, conference titles, and CFPs should be paying off a lot more

What is preventing that payoff, IMO, is the Harbaugh uncertainty.  Nobody still knows if he is even going to be here next year, probably not even him.  He is likely waiting to see how he does in the CFP.  If he wins it all, he will have achieved all that he wanted to in college football.  His competitive nature will then lure him back to the NFL, the biggest stage.

Fine, I say.  Follow your heart.  If he wins us a National Championship, then he can go to the NFL with our blessings.

If the 5 star recruits get the cash, who will be coach will be  a distant 2nd.. They know if Harbaugh leaves, Moore would be the coach. But they know they will not get much cash singing with Michigan. But I don't care, our system of developing 3 and 4 star kids up is working well.

We've won three straight Big Ten championships and made three straight CFPs, so I finally have trust that what Jim Harbaugh thinks about his recruits is more important than what I think.

It’s a bit of a 2 sided coin.  Proven ability to develop mid 4- 3 star talent into champions and nfl draft picks.  On the other side the fruits of that success should ripen with a few more 5 stars.  It’s complete apples to oranges so no one take this the wrong way but I’m somewhat reminded of when RR came in and seemed to be content recruiting the same caliber of player he had so much success with at WVU instead of taking full advantage of the brand.

Let's not kid ourselves, it is the 5-stars on the team like JJ and Will Johnson that are key reasons that we are playing in the CFP.

Without them, there would be no CFP regardless of how well some other players have been developed.

You have to hit on some 5-star level talent to compete at the highest levels.  If we are done successfully recruiting 5-stars, we're done with championships.

If you are a program like Michigan, not getting some key 5-stars is a choice.

Ryan Day is so bitchmade soft.  He reacted to not losing their top WR recruit and a top DL recruit like a message board fan would.  Guy is unhinged and thinks he’s playing NCAA football on Xbox.

OSU fans are completely delusional thinking all their commits are there for the amazing college experience, but players flipping to Miami, UGA, Bama are getting the bag.  Ie, all 5* OSU commits are only there because OSU good and honest, while other 5 stars just want money!

Michigan is not playing the up front $ / NIL game. It’s worked, for now, but not sure how sustainable this strategy is when other schools outbid UM in the portal as well.  If we can promise elite development AND a giant bag to transfers, it’s a good strategy- but I do think we need some more elite HS talent going forward.  UM isn’t this good rn without JJ and Will Johnson.  We develop incredibly well, and recruit to the trenches first… great formula -specifically as playoff goes to 12 teams.  That said, we will be very reliant on upper classmen sticking around and holding the current culture in place to be at the level of UGA and Bama.

Good class, and it's in keeping with a strategy we're all familiar with, but I'm a little concerned.

Does Michigan win against Ohio State this year without a 5-star talent at the helm? JJ's incredible TD throw to Wilson and Will Johnson's critical interception and generally excellent work on MHJ during the first half comes to mind.

Scheme can funnel big plays to these types of guys, and I'd like to see at least one or two in a given class (transfers included). On the other hand, the 'big-upside freshman class and use transfers to fill holes' strategy seems to be working out so far.

Yeah the answer is you need both ends of the barbell. Those throwing out all the non 5* guys and asking if we win without them are not being blunt that we needed both THOSE guys and the 5* guys.  Now we go into an era we will have the grinder development types guys and not the 5* so we will see if their thesis works that we didnt need JJ DE WJ etc.

In Todays world you need to pay big bucks to get the 5 star players. At this time, Michigan is unwilling and is the reason they are not getting many 5 stars. 5 years ago, just being in the playoffs would guarantee a handful of 5 stars. Now that is not the case. Overall the class is good but not excellent.

Doesn’t it go both ways? Does UM crush OSU in 2021 without 4* Aidan Hutchinson wreaking havoc against OSU’s O-line or 3* Hassan Haskins scoring touchdowns at will? Take into account the staff’s willingness to steal transfer portal gems along the way and I don’t think the argument is that strong.

Of course you always want 5* players in the pipeline but again football is a team game, and if the past 3 years has taught us anything, it’s that you can build a damn good team capable of beating anyone, regardless of individual star rankings.

Michigan has won three straight Big Ten Championships by running the football and having an elite defense. This class doesn't seem to be changing that identity anytime soon.

Offensively, they have a Top 100 composite QB and RB, two Top 250 TEs, two Top 250 OL with 3 others ranked around the 300-400 level.

Defensively, they grabbed three very high ceiling D-Ends, loaded up with two 300-400 level DTs and another two that seem criminally underrated. Four extremely athletic LBs (again, 300-400 level). Finished off with 300ish level CB and Safety.

The UM program has feasted on the 200-400 level of the 247 composite for a while now, getting kids into the program for a couple years and explode their 2nd/3rd years. The highest-ranked Harbaugh class (2017) came with massive expectations and immediate contributors and was maybe the most disappointing class in his tenure. The 2018 class was his worst star-ranking class he ever had, but was the catalyst behind changing the program's culture.

The coaches are some of, if not the best at scouting and developing in the entire country. This class looks like it will continue to keep the machine going.

It'd be nice to see Michigan toward the top of these rankings and get excited for incoming 5 stars, but as others have said, we've got every reason to trust in Harbaugh and way he recruits. Given the past few years, I'd rather let OSU enjoy "winning" NSD, while we get to enjoy winning The Game.

I think Harbaugh better return for 2024.  I know UM has a system for picking kids that fit what UM wants to do, but UM requires the entire coaching staff return, including Harbaugh to form this #16th ranked crew, with kids from 3 to 4 star HS players, into elite college football players.

Key here is Davis. If he is good Michigan will be good. If he isn’t…😬.

The linemen will be good.  The defense will be good. That alone is enough to get you to 8-10 wins annually. Key is the QB.

WR is the one area Michigan needs to pick up its game. Michigan hasn’t landed an elite WR recruit since DPJ.

Would also like to see them land a few more five stars.

If the transfer portal wasn’t as commonly utilized as it is now, I’d agree that Davis’s success will be tied to the team as a whole. With that said, there were at least 5-6 major P5 QBs who could start at just about any school in the country and this will likely be a growing trend in the future.

I do agree that in order to attract QBs you need talent at the WR position and that’s something UM hasn’t had in a while. The emerging TE position has diminished the lack of WR production for most of the year.

I get what you're saying about the portal but I'm guessing the upper echelon of QBs in the portal are looking to go to a school that throws the ball a lot.  Doesn't mean UM won't be able to find a QB in the portal but UM might not be that on the list for the top QBs in the portal.

Very happy with this class, which according to Rivals is one of the better classes we have had in years. Ranked #12 - OSU is #5. But we had 17 4-stars according to Rivals. OSU had only 13 4-stars, but the difference is they have 3 5-stars. We out-recruited them, again, on both the offensive and defensive lines.

17th in the rankings is just not going to sustain this level of success. People don’t like to hear it, but it’s true. Alabama has nine five stars in their class. Ohio State has five. We have zero. That’s a huge obstacle to overcome.

Only way to know is to check back in 3 or so years to see what team has done its job in developing the talent in this class. The snapshot of where the class landed today is meaningless. the evidence is 3 straight wins over the suffering sucknuts, a team that had much higher rated recruits and class than Michigan over the last 4 years. Amirite?

This is what I love to see. Media and everyone hyping up OSU’s class. Going off 247, it does show 5 5 stars. However, look deeper and they have 2 (of which, is Jeremiah smith who hasn’t signed at this moment). Next one? Mylan Graham, another WR. They just lost two of their best prospects. This class looks way better cause of their propped up 2 WR stars. Depending on who’s leaving, this team could look like a slightly upgraded version of USC in a year or two

They do well recruiting 5 star receivers. They've had maybe the best set of receivers over the last several years for as long as I've watched football.

But it seems for a receiver to pay off you obviously need a decent quarterback, an offensive line to give him time and a defense so that your receiver doesn't sit on the bench watching the other team chew up the clock on long scoring drives (sound familiar?).
