Doxxing fellow board members.
So I don’t know which one of you is [NAME REDACTED] but sending emails to my umich account for board arguments is not appropriate.
My last name means I am easy to find in UM’s directory. But you don’t have my permission to email me.
If you have something to say to me say it on here. Sending emails referencing doxxing is not cool.
MOD EDIT - Removed the name of the person in question. Obviously, if the person mentioned initially sees this thread and responds, that's their fault for revealing themselves. - LSA

I agree that board arguments should stay on the board, and that doxxing is wildly inappropriate if someone doesn't want to be ID'd; aren't you sort of doxxing the guy who did it, too?
December 16th, 2023 at 10:04 PM ^
I can't help but notice things like that, myself. When board posts complain about fans complaining, etc. It's a curse.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:07 PM ^
Dude, he looked up my email and sent me a message. That is way beyond bitching about someone’s opinion.
I did this to make clear that this isn’t okay.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:11 PM ^
I do hope the moms take care of this, though. It feels like it should pinned on the disclaimer and be ban worthy if it continues.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
Well, let's not get moms involved.
On a serious note, this is wild and inappropriately crossing the line.

Sorry that this happened, and hope that I didn't contribute. I got to wondering whether your screen name might allude to some Italian political figure last night and googled it. That prompted a spate of investigations of my grandfather's family name and antecedents which ended up delighting several members of my family, to whom I immediately sent some of the neat stuff that I found. I then wrote a response saying how loopy I found your posts but thanking you for putting me on such a fruitful trail of inquiry. :)
I thought better of inviting more people to dig into your screen name, though, for the very reason that it might bring them perilously close to you, personally. After noticing someone else warning you that by dramatizing your connection to the university you might be inviting scrutiny--even imperil your job--I echoed that message when I erased my original.
I would again urge you and others to be careful in giving away clues to your real name or activities. But I apologize again if the brief time that my post was up might have contributed to your being emailed. (Doxxing is when people publish your info, pass it out to others so that they can harrass you.) I live in the South, and have gotten used to separating political jousting from hatred of the people I joust with; in a small town like the one I live in it's an absolute must to maintain some sense of humor, especially if your views are earnest and you don't want to die of despair. We've all got to be tolerant of one another or we're finished. All best.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:05 PM ^
No, because he emailed me. I am responding to him. I don’t know his board name.
I didn’t look up his name and email him.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:14 PM ^
But you've made it so someone can contact him irl as it relates to board affairs, regardless of username. Not cool either.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
That is a relatively common name. Good luck trying to find him.
Meanwhile my name is far less common.
The two aren’t comparable.
December 17th, 2023 at 12:03 PM ^
Maybe just take a break from this board for a while, yea? Your posts have been especially unhinged lately, and now this drama...
Would probably be very good for you.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:16 PM ^
Stupid question:
Didn't you have his email address from the email he sent you? Like, you hit "reply," right?
December 16th, 2023 at 10:18 PM ^
Yes. I did respond to him.
But I wanted people to know what happened and to draw a hardline about it not being appropriate.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:22 PM ^
A point that could have been made without using his name (or making an OP).
I mean, I'm not unsympathetic to your main point here. I think it was inappropriate for someone to email your work account about MGoBoard stuff.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:27 PM ^
OP I feel was necessary.
However, I do agree I could have done so without using his name. I regret that.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:41 PM ^
Don’t regret it too much. What a pile of manure move to bother you like that. They deserve all that comes their way.
December 17th, 2023 at 5:20 AM ^
Ditto. If you don't like what somebody posted on here, that's fine. Downvote him, argue back with him, or ignore him. That's what the board is for, within reason. But to track somebody down off the board is a dick move. We've all got a right to privacy. Respect it.
December 17th, 2023 at 8:53 AM ^
You can send a private message through the board to whatever email address is associated with your username. I've received a couple and had no problem with it (both were pleasant and not argumentative). But, so far as I can tell, you cannot associate your real name with that email - especially if you use a generic (not name based) email address.
But I agree - there is no reason to send uninvited private messages to argue board posts. Argue them on the board, and if you get dumped to Bolivia that's your own damn fault.
December 17th, 2023 at 9:52 AM ^
Most people don't have that feature turned on.
December 17th, 2023 at 10:28 AM ^
Not that I want that feature, but I assume it isn't a user-controlled option?
December 17th, 2023 at 12:44 PM ^
So you agree that someone can deserved to be doxxed like Salvatore did to the persons real name he posted here?
December 18th, 2023 at 7:22 AM ^
are you serious? if so, what a foolish question. turnabout, on that issue and in these exact circumstances, is certainly fair play. i would imagine most would agree. if i have misinterpreted your question, my apologies and feel free to correct me.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:06 PM ^
That’s not OK. If you have problems with someone on a message board, settle it there. Taking it to IRL is borderline stalker BS.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:30 PM ^
"I got a lot of problems with you people!"
You know the source...
December 16th, 2023 at 10:32 PM ^
Counting down the days to 12/23/23. So many grievances to air.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:08 PM ^
I mean, emailing you at [email protected] isn’t rocket science.
/S
December 16th, 2023 at 11:41 PM ^
I believe it's umich.edu.
Just sayin'.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:10 PM ^
I don’t usually agree with you, SQ but 100% with you here. Way over the line.
also, I’m not [NAME REDEACTED], fwiw
edit: thanks mods for redacting. Just realized the name was removed from the OP and was coming back to edit.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:12 PM ^
Call me a SOB. Call me what you want, but just do it on here.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:16 PM ^
You SOB!
December 17th, 2023 at 12:11 AM ^
Good for you Sal.
Hopefully they are just an unbalanced and not dangerous.
December 17th, 2023 at 8:30 AM ^
You self righteous, judgmental, SOB! Maybe stop telling everybody you work at UM, as if mopping the Angell Hall bathrooms gives you license to make assumptions about people, in the name of our University.
How's that?
December 17th, 2023 at 10:50 AM ^
Is there a middle finger emoji! You deserve it!
December 16th, 2023 at 10:31 PM ^
Mods deleted name in OP. Name needs to be deleted here too now.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:13 PM ^
What if, and hear me out here, you just ignore him? I may be going out on a limb here but 75% of things to work emails is nonsense. Remember that someone having your email is essentially meaningless.
December 17th, 2023 at 8:56 AM ^
In the hands of a decent hacker with an agenda, an email address is far more than "meaningless". Nonetheless, your point here is that this will probably come to nothing - which is true. However, doing so is still wrong.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:14 PM ^
Although I don't share your sports opinions, on this I am in total support of you and am stunned to have read it. Totally inappropriate.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:14 PM ^
This is what was sent to me:
“ For such a combative poster who has made a lot of internet enemies, it's interesting that you made yourself so easy to doxx.”
December 16th, 2023 at 10:17 PM ^
Frankly, that reads to me as a threat.
FWIW it isn't necessarily a regular poster on here. People read the board without participating.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:59 PM ^
People also participate without reading the board, often, it seems
December 16th, 2023 at 11:34 PM ^
That’s bad. I may have disagreed with OP in that thread but an obvious threat to doxx/harass is far, far out of bounds.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:23 PM ^
That's a threat and the board member needs banned.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:30 PM ^
Yeah, that’s total bullshit and ban-worthy
December 16th, 2023 at 10:37 PM ^
I would forward that to Seth and/or Brian. I think they have more access to user information.
I’ve seen a few responses to you suggesting they would report you to UofM, and I was like, for what? Having a different opinion?
We have vastly differing opinions regarding the University of Michigan Standard Practice Guide and its application. But I appreciate you for challenging my assumptions and motivating me to look that up. No hard feelings on this side of things.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:47 PM ^
Ban the scumbag.
December 17th, 2023 at 1:31 AM ^
That's an implied threat and reprehensible. I think the mods should consider banning that person. That crosses a lot of lines.
December 17th, 2023 at 7:31 AM ^
That's WAY over the line and disgusting behavior.
You and I have had our spats but you're a cool dude and this board member in question is a fucking idiot.
December 16th, 2023 at 10:15 PM ^
Not cool, but instead of a post calling it out I would ask the mods to intervene.
but if anyone here has issues with me, you got my number - twoeightone, threethreeoh, eightohohfour!
December 16th, 2023 at 10:25 PM ^
Anyone can call me anytime too.

Can I call you on your cell? Is it still 8675409?
December 16th, 2023 at 10:50 PM ^
Nope, it’s 867-5309 ;)
