Relationships between former OSU staffers and Catapult Sports practice film archives

Submitted by Communist Football on November 21st, 2023 at 8:38 PM

Catapult Sports is a software company used by many college football teams to analyze practice video and game tape. It turns out that Joe Stanek, OSU's former Director of Football Video (2017-2020), and another former OSU assistant football video coordinator (2016-2020) now work at Catapult.

This could be a total random coincidence. But there are unsubstantiated allegations that OSU acquired Penn State's practice film from Catapult prior to their 2022 game. Does anyone in the Vast Network have information that could substantiate these claims?

What might James Franklin have to say about this?

I wonder if Catapult has a Blockchain secured data environment to ensure / track authorized chain of custody and possession / access of all they have in their archives.

It wouldn’t surprise me if what we hear out of Columbus is.. “No comment”.

The Big Ten's letter to Michigan announcing Harbaugh's suspension said,

It is rare and outside the NCAA’s typical protocols for the NCAA to disclose information about an active investigation to institutions other than the institution under investigation. However, the NCAA stated and believed that the disclosure was necessary due to the unprecedented scope of the then-alleged scheme, and because of the significant impact the impermissible scheme could have on competition during the current football season. It was also extraordinary that the NCAA president arranged for and participated in the call, underscoring not only the severity of the allegations but the immediate impacts.

There’s a ton of dirt.

Again, poo-poo all the smoke, but there’s fire there.  The NCAA and B1G know about a  bunch of shit and have generally ignored anything without hard evidence in their hands - also, Petitte is new to this, and why it spun out of control.

I am shocked and disappointed that UM has not leaked stories to the media.  We got caught with our pants down and lost the PR battle.  Need to win the game, then run a slow leak on OSU׳s shenanigans

At this point, it seems fairly obvious that there is an absolute connection between OSU and the shit storm that has occurred over the last month. Clearly this is a hit job. Unfortunately, I don’t think anyone outside this blog (and obviously the university) cares. Trying to have a rational discussion about what is actually known and the vast amount of information that is unknown with anyone but a Michigan fan, typically ends poorly.

At this point I don’t give a shit about the perception of the program on the outside. The perception of lack of integrity couldn’t be more false. A fucking firm was hired to dig up dirt and the best they could come up with is this maniac Stalions (which apparently is done at EVERY other program). I’m actually pretty impressed and pretty proud of this program that Jim built. It is clean. Couldn’t give a shit if anyone else ever agrees with me. Just fucking win on Saturday. Win 1001 for Harbaugh

Somebody with a ton of money, and not a donor, should hire an army of a PIs with the sole mission of following anyone associated with OSU around watching and waiting.

Fuck OSU this shit is so dirty and then for their fans to act like the way they are…

We actually may demolish this team.  I can’t imagine how fired up our team is for this game.

Even assuming it would be possible to bring this to a head quickly, I think there's an advantage to slow playing it. Nobody believes any of this now...but they're wondering. OSU didn't have our practice video last year. No way. Did they?

Eventually some Catapult customers start digging around. Or they bring it to Catapult and they're put in the same position: this can't possibly be true...but what if it is? Their whole business is in question.

Ideally, I'd want to drop convincing proof of one thing, just to establish a little credibility, and then let the pack of wolves fall on each other. They'll start digging up stuff we didn't even have a sniff of. And surely breaking up the pack is the goal here, isn't it?

I'm starting to fear that you're right that even if this is reported eventually as fact, people won't care, especially the further we get away from the story breaking.

I used to think that, even if nothing came of it, everyone else would at least view OSU as pathetic and pitiful for hiring the PI. I'm no longer confident about that.

If the bulk of this stuff has any merit, then I'd have to assume that Jim Harbaugh has absolutely made almost every enemy outside of people who are at Michigan.

As more and more is revealed it sounds like everyone has a network of videos/spies on literally everyone and are basically passing everything around like it's an extended family potluck.

Yet the fact that the hammer would go so swiftly onto Jim + Michigan feels like he/we have made (or naturally acquired) A LOT of enemies over the years. Which actually sounds right considering Harbaugh has vocalized paying players since way before the NIL, has a metric ton of NFL connections (unlike any of the other HCs), could take an NFL job in a second, and has a brother who has been feeding him coordinators, etc. who have been lights out.

I hope we destroy Ohio this week.

Nothing could be a sweeter revenge to shut them and all the supposed "sports analysts" talking out of their ass.

It really is Michigan vs. Everybody.

And that's why nothing Michigan could bring up will move the needle with the NCAA. The only type of thing that could hurt OSU is something brought to light by another program.

This sounds more and more like the company that uses obscure things to get rid of someone that isn't liked. There's very little benefit in fighting it head-on.

The dude is a fun follow. Not sure how credible it is; seems like this site doesn’t believe much as 2/3 of these posts were taking down. ON3 are following him, so maybe this is where they got their info from their “sources.” FWIW, it looks like it’s about to roast Greg Schiano shortly

It's the "forthcoming" comment here that I feel is odd.  Good timing is a payload of dirt being exposed BEFORE the game against OSU, not after.  And well enough in advance that the negativity gains momentum to the point that it impacts OSU's focus and prep.  Bringing provable wrongdoing to light after the game is still great but it doesn't help Michigan right now when we need it most.

I just read that Sports Illustrated article in the thread below and it occurred to me that there's been so much back and forth between both schools that maybe we don't want to engage anymore in retaliatory stuff. We may have the proverbial binder of stuff against OSU but using it means that they're going to come right back at us, and if the schools in the Big Ten have now come together in solidarity against us, we may be saying not worth it anymore.

and if the schools in the Big Ten have now come together in solidarity against us

That article confirmed my thoughts that it's not only *now* that B1G schools are coming together against Michigan.

On June 23, 2021, a high school placekicker from Hartland, Mich., named Nathan Dibert used Twitter to publicly thank Michigan coaches Bradford Banta and J.B. Brown for working him out in Ann Arbor.

But Banta and Brown weren’t coaches. They were analysts. They were not allowed to work Dibert out.

Multiple other schools turned Michigan in for the apparent rule violation, a person familiar with the ensuing investigation told SI.

For working out a placekicker? Really? That's what we're going to start ratting on each other for now?

I'm sure Michigan could take some more hits by retaliating, but look at it this way: In the Court of Public Opinion, OSU is much farther from its floor than Michigan (who's been beaten up the past several weeks). They have more to lose. IMO that would be reason enough for retaliating.

Holy shit. Is this actually real? A quick YouTube search found multiple hits from Penn State Sports Performance and sure enough, they're using Catapult products.

I love this. Even if this isn't true, the more and more people look, eventually they'll find something. When that does happen, I can't wait for the shit storm Michigan fans will rain down on them.

It wouldn't surprise me at all that a company that hosts football video data hires people that worked as video coordinators at client teams.

That's nothing. That is exactly who such a company would hire. There needs to be something beyond employment history to support any allegations.
