[Title edited]: Dennis Dodd (lists possible penalties which) Big Ten (might) threaten, (up to and including) TV Ban and withholding of revenue

This to me is cause for departure from the conference if they seriously try to do this. Messing with the money means nuclear option is viable.

[edit @10:10 pm: the end result is a bit unwieldy, but in an attempt to clarify the OP's original thread title, I simply edited in everything that you see in parentheses. -rob f]

Unreal, it's right out of the PAC 10 vs UW playbook.  How can the Big Ten possibly think this is the right move?  And thank goodness M is dutifully defending itself now.

I'm sure it's just Dodd sensationalizing. How could you ever negotiate a TV contract again with Fox or whomever? "Hey we can't guarantee that we will show one of our teams because we might attempt to arbitrarily penalize them." If a conference can't give a dependable product, if I'm a network I'm looking at another conference that has its act together.

So let me understand this. The big ten....with no evidence of connection to Harbaugh and no investigation is going to threaten a TV ban and money for on if it's two biggest programs and the number 2 team in the country. If that's true then a departure may be an option. Frankly the way Michigan has been treated in this case is insulting.

Would love to see them threaten a TV ban.  Let's see what the other 13 programs say.  This conference is propped up by Michigan, OSU and PSU.  Anything that affects Michigan's revenue is affecting the Purdue's and Michigan State's of the world multifold.

This is definitely clickbait. Dodd is pulling random vague crap out. Think about it: Big Ten isn’t “notifying Jim Harbaugh” of anything, they would communicate with the AD or president of the university.

A TV ban is so clearly not happening, but man- I'd loooove to get to hear the phone call between Petitti and the Fox TV execs and hear the reaction to Petetti telling Fox that they wouldn't be broadcasting The Game.

I suspect Dodd is being deliberately misleading in this tweet. The things he lists are all *technically possible* penalties that the B1G could try to impose on a member it deems wayward. That doesn't mean any of them are actually likely in this case

This isn't really news. I'm sure the notice of potential punishment is a form that includes all the ranges. I'm equally sure a withholding of tv revenue and reprimand are equally likely and neither is the plan

And how would Fox, CBS, and NBC not sue over this?

If this is actually true, it amazes me how petty and spiteful this has become? To reiterate what Cowherd said last week, “if it was Purdue doing this, NO ONE would care.”

They probably won't stop at a Harbaugh suspension especially if Michigan continues to win. I live in Florida and I can tell they only care about eliminating teams from the 4 man playoffs. They could care less about the integrity of the game.

Listening to the radio down here they believe Michigan will go through the B1G with ease but OSU will get another bid which will put 2 B1G teams in again. So they're all for hurting Michigan in any way possible so they can get FSU and 2 SEC teams in or Texas/Oklahoma....blah blah blah.

The thing that is surprising is that everyone on the radio doesn't believe Michigan will lose. I mean if you truly thought Michigan had some hidden advantage then surely they'll fall back down to earth....nope, they sure don't.

I'm gonna drive to the BigTen office in Rosemont and smear shit on their windows and really work it into the nooks and crannies around the building.  Missing a little caulk, let's fill it in with a little koala poo.  Backsplash needs more grout, don't mind if I do.

Let's say this story is sensationalized click-bait, and that in the end, cooler heads prevail.

Even in that best case scenario, the fact that we got to this point with the B10 in the first place, especially in light of the NCAA not having the evidence to connect the sign stealing to Harbaugh, should really result in some serious soul searching.  This includes, in my view, potential calls to the ACC and SEC, the TV networks, and even to ND about their arrangement with the ACC.

It "could range" from a reprimand to a TV ban.

They "could" ban Harbaugh for life and strip all 998 (and counting) wins.

Or they "could" make him write "I will not hire Connor Stalions" on the chalkboard after school.

For what? On what grounds? I'm speaking more to any kind of punishment at this point. If the NCAA found no connection between Harbaugh and the sign/scouting/whatever it was, what is there to suspend him for at this juncture?

  • The NCAA does not appear to support an imminent TV ban; ditto for imminent revenue withholding
  • It’s easy to speculate that Fox does not support this
  • *And* I find it implausible to believe the Big Ten can win on the merits in court and even less plausible that they can do so in any manner shy of Pyrrhic victory. (I even find it implausible that the Big Ten disagrees with that sentence.)

So, this is a game of chicken?

Alright!

Can we just back up for a minute and acknowledge that

A guy paid 55k was going over the line on scouting

Harbaugh reportedly didn't know but maybe did of you believe so

No evidence it helped anything really

Opponents knew last year and changed things up

Now we are talking about a tv ban

I'm all for a reasonable penalty if evidence warrants, but my lord in heaven we've hit silly season
