It's 5 O'clock Most Everywhere - BBQ, Bev, Summer Thread
Mates,
It's 5 O'clock most everywhere on a hot summer evening. Long work week combined with over a week of cutting and baling hay, but the first cutting is done. Yee-haw.

What is in your cup, on your BBQ and/or on your plate?
Are you taking advantage of the summer weather?
Hope you are well,
XM
Drinking an IPA from Burial Beer. Got take out. It's rained like hell here in Maryland last couple days so not quite enjoying the weather
I am chewing buzz buttons and drinking bee stings. This is unique in terms of my previous beverage experiences.
I'm actually in Asheville tonight and we thought about going to Burial. They make great beer! Ended up drinking at New Belgium
A little Maker's in the cup. Got carryout Italian for dinner. I have a new BBQ arriving next Friday and am pretty excited for it.
what type of BBQ did you get? i would pull the trigger on a weber, but i can't find a 4 burner for much less than $1,000. want to buy a decent model that is not made in china.
Weber Genesis E-435.
if you don't mind my asking, what was the cost?
$1,549 from Lowe's. Free delivery and assembly. More than I originally wanted to pay but the reviews are pretty good and I just want a grill that I can fire up and make food. Especially going to focus on pizzas with this.
Drinking Jack Daniel's
Going to see 86 years young blues legend Buddy Guy tomorrow in Rochester Hills
Saw him many years ago at the Michigan Theater. Incredible.
(As I just posted down thread...) I'm seeing Buddy Guy right now in GR.
Wife and I saw him last year at Interlochen. First time seeing him and he brought it. About 70 minute show. Definitely showing a bit of wear (at 85, come on, now) but his voice was strong and his guitar playing was fantastic. Enjoy the show. 🎶🎸🎤
I've seen Buddy many times and yes the range in his voice is outstanding.
Saw him at Rick's once and some of my hearing loss is due to that, I'm certain. Great show.
A very nice review from the Buddy Guy concert I attended Friday evening:

Is the concert tonight at Oakland University? I've been there for a couple concerts but it's been about 5 years since the last time. Be prepared for Buddy to walk up and down the aisles into the crowd as he did last night---Buddy playing the blues just 5 feet away from me as he walked up and then down again the aisle next to where I had my lawn chair!
Yes, it's at Oakland. Only time I've been at this venue is when I saw Buddy and Jeff Beck on the same bill. Years ago, he signed my ticket stub. I got lucky and got front row and from the stage he signed anything that people had.
I've never been able to guess right where he is going to walk when he goes into the crowd.
Excellent post (per usual). I live two miles from Meadowbrook. I wish you a fine evening.
drizzly here in A2 - went out to Uptown Coney for a burger, fries and Two hearted ale. Didn’t finish work so have to do some overtime on Saturday ( after my morning swim).
sounds like a fine dinner. hopefully mrs. scanner was with you.
we have been dry-dry-dry up north, but some expected rain sunday-tuesday will help. i'm surprised we were able cut as much hay as we were given the near-drought conditions of the last 5-6 weeks. hoping for more normal precip this next month and a decent second cutting.
Glad everything is done
Embed for the board
I will add
Water skiing in jeans never looked so cool
i wish i had your tech skills. kudos. i tried to embed and it froze the screen. it might be the browser, but i'm not savvy enough to figure it out.
At the Buddy Guy concert @Meijer Gardens, sipping on a Stella Artois. Opening act Ally Venable just finished 5 minutes ago (she's an extremely talented blues guitarist), Buddy Guy should be jammin in about 10 minutes
nice. text pics.
Sounds like a great concert Rob. Have a spectacular time and safe travels home 👍
Got drunk for the first time in my life sitting by the banks of the Muskegon River at age nine on screwdrivers. Never found a reason to change.
Some Long Drink in the cup and doing pad Thai. Not summer food, but the grill is primed for use this weekend (weather meh in Cincy). And go blue
Sipping on some Four Roses Single Barrel Private Select. Went to a Thai restaurant earlier for chicken and shrimp pad Thai 😋. Cheers and Go Blue 🥃
Good man - cheers!
Also drizzly here in Troy. Both my boys (9 and 7) had friends over this evening and I promised s'mores (earlier in the week before looking at the forecast). It took a little bit of lighter fluid, but we got ourselves a nice fire.
Drinking a Founders West Coast IPA. A little wet but watching my boys have fun outside makes it all worth it.
Happy weekend, all.
way to go, dad. it's like camping in alaska, liquid sunshine...
Breaking in a new charcoal pot, shish tawook and vegetable skewers, with cold ichiban. I keep playing with the marinade, should be good this time. Partagas and Dalwhinnie after dark.
How everybody is well. Enjoy!
Question, what is this: Partagas and Dalwhinnie ? booze? a board game?
They're my girlfriends, just for the evening. One's a gorgeous Cuban expat, and the other comes from the same Glen my family does, so I pick her up every once in a while, for old times sake.
but what are they?
They are both vices that were once virtues.
Hot? It’s 70 feels like 68 in Kentucky.
hot for us northerners. been 80+ all week. will cool down in a few days and be good to buck up a maple tree i dropped last week.
Moved from Otsego County to Kentucky for horses and warm weather. Feels like Kalkaska down here.
I'm doing 75 Hard and on day 8. No alcohol for me until the end of August...but that first weekend in September will be epic. CMU @ msu, ECU @ Michigan then LSU vs FSU in Orlando!
I'm doing a 0.75 hard, no drinking until tomorrow after golf.
Burrito for dinner but I picked up a nice ribeye for tomorrow.
Going to be a nice summer Saturday
Not feeling it yet but probably Samichlaus and some Malawi Gold out in the garage soon.
Congrats on finishing up the first cut!
About to put the young’un down and fire up the Ooni. South Shore Bar Pie on the menu and some Harpoon IPA in the glass.
I could go for a Harpoon IPA right now...
Tequila on the rocks. Is that weird?
weird? maybe not. strong? maybe, unless you're doing shooters
"I was born to lick your face." is a great line.
Had a brisket going on the offset for my boy’s birthday tomorrow for just a titch over 12 hours now. Then in the warmer overnight.
The big surprise? Our new hot tub gets delivered in the morning. (no it’s not a birthday present; just a coincidence)
Soon as I get this brisket to bed it’ll 3 fingers of glenlivet 12.
Ezra Brooks Rye on rocks cut with a splash of lime seltzer. Leftovers for dinner--it's what happens when you're living alone and you do a rack of ribs for Sunday dinner.
Put an offer in on an old farmhouse on a couple acres this afternoon. Third house I've offered on in the past month and been outbid on the first two. Maybe 3rd time's the charm? No worries and no hurries, and when the right one comes along it will be mine. Packing a few boxes of books each day anyway, because if they don't go into a new house they'll go into storage for awhile as I try to declutter my life somewhat.
Lawn is finally getting tall enough to cut again--but not tall enough to bale, XM!--so that's on my agenda for tomorrow. I'm not a fan of lawns needing to look like golf course fairways, but I water enough to keep it from drying and dying, unlike a few of my neighbors. Consequence: mowing. But my beloved perennial flower beds are getting close to early summer peak with the warmth we've had. Not going to dig up and move everything when the time comes (although I'm tempted), but a few sentimental favorites will go with me.
Tall Budweiser draft at the Reds v Braves game. Down in Ohio temporarily so figured might as well take in the sights and sports.
