Would you rather have Michigan's basketball season or Purdue's?
I think I'd rather have Michigan's, because Purdue will never forget that loss. It'll be like an App State kind of thing to them.
Hmmmm, I think I would take the two championships. Next…
Yet a significant percentage of Purdue fans are done with Painter, the same as a percentage of Michigan fans want Howard gone. Coaching college basketball is a tough gig.
This season the big ten was terrible so I’d take Michigan season over Purdue. I’d rather win the big ten when it’s strong. This year it was average
Let’s just fucking switch. We will see how Matt Painter does at Michigan and how Juwan does at Purdue. Anything is better than this year.
Do regular season and tournament banners mean anything when you suffer arguably the worst loss in NCAA Tournament history?
This is going to hang over them forever unless they pull a Virginia and win it all next year.
Yes, they do.
I'd choose Purdue's season over Michigan's 100 out of 100. Not much to appreciate about Michigan's season. I'm not particularly excited about the future either.

This sounds great but I’m willing to expect better in the future. Purdue wasn’t even ranked to start the year and they got to a #1 seed and lost in spectacular fashion. We struggled all year but didn’t ever get embarrassed like that. They have the two banners which makes it a tough comparison. I’ll go with Purdue is victim of easily the biggest choke upset in March madness history and their BIG titles will be forgotten ultimately. This won’t be however. Plus their program is known for this already. Just ask a Purdue fan. I believe they have the most overall success in the Big Ten.

Ummm Central Michigan is on line one for you…..we were one of their ten wins….repeat, 10 wins…..I’d say that’s embarrassing enough.
Throughout the year Purdue. After what has happened Michigan. Big Ten titles are cool, but there is a champ every year and a 16 has only beat a 1 twice. The rest of the country will not remember who won the 2022-2023 big ten championship but everyone will be able to tell you who the one seeds who lost to sixteen seeds are.
And Virginia was missing their best player when they lost. This was easily the biggest upset in tournament history IMO.
Especially since it is not like FDU played well. Purdue had wide open three after wide open three and just could not hit anything.
Umbc (while not a good team they were like 160 in kenpom) was a much much better team than FDU (who going into the tourney was 310 ish). By far the worst loss in tournament history.
At least we can forget about this Michigan season. Purdue is never going to forget this one.
Still would take the championships but i am at least a little conflicted
Not only is FDU a 16-seed, they were among the teams slotted into the play-in round, which makes them among the worst teams in the entire 68-team field (in the opinion of the committee, anyway).
UCLA started the 2021 tournament in the First Four. They beat Michigan State (11), BYU (6), Abilene Christian (14), Alabama (2), and Michigan (1) before falling to Gonzaga (1) in the Final Four. When you're hot, you're hot. When you're not, you're not.
Plus, FDU didn't even win its conference tournament. It qualified only because the winner wasn't eligible for the Dance.
FDU only won 4 games last year.
They have a 1st year coach.
They were one of the play in games this year.
The only reason they got in was b/c their league champion, Merrimack, was ineligible to go to the NCAA tournament b/c they are a recent D1 school. (Another dumb NCAA rule says they have to wait 4 years before they can play in the NCAA Tournament.) Merrimack beat FDU 67-66 in the league championship game.
Nothing but good luck for FDU this season.
Who knows what kind of bad luck happened on Purdue's side.
Actually everyone will remember the 2022-2023 big ten champ, precisely because they choked in the worst loss in NCAA tourney history.
Wasn't this posted elsewhere? I'd rather have Purdue's.
Purdue hung two banners. It's not close.
Right? I can't even believe this is a question.
UVA lost to UMBC five years ago and it's not even talked about that much (other than during Tourney time. It didn't crush UVA's program.
I'd take Purdue's season over Michigan's all day long. Hang those banners!

Def would take Purdue's season over ours. I think part of why UVA's loss to UMBC is discussed less, though, is because they won it all the next year. Hard to knock a team much for a historic loss when they won the next championship.
It's always much rougher to get crushed when you're riding high than to have low expectations met. This feels a bit like us losing to TCU, except that TCU earned their way into the Playoffs.
I agree with you that I'd rather be Michigan right now. Purdue fans must be in absolute shock.
Purdue of course. Don't be silly. Two banners. I'd rather have Webber's timeout than to not have that Final Four
Perfect analogy. The timeout is still infamous to this day. I wouldn’t trade the fab five to not have that memory.
Every time the fans look at those banners they’ll be reminded of the worst loss in history. I’ll take michigans season
I'm not giving up a sweep against Northwestern
What an awful take
After the CMU loss, most fans knew what the rest of our season would be like so the bar was lowered. Purdue started to play like Michigan by losing close games down the stretch. They still won the B1G title and the BTT but the bar was set very high for them. In the end, I'd rather have Michigan's season, as mediocre as it was. Meanwhile, Purdue was consistently under performed in NCAA Tourney action year after year.
If we're just talking this season I'd rather have Purdue's. If we're talking coaches I'd rather have Howard because he's literally had as much tournament success as Painter has.
When's the last time Painter missed the Tourney? When's the last time Howard missed it?
I think the question is really whether we want Juwan as our coach or not. I would say, certainly yes. Juwan, although far from perfect and quite inconsistent, has shown plenty of aptitude in bringing in players like Mike Smith and Chaundee, utilizing the talent he inherited, and in developing players. Winning in college basketball is really hard and really, really hard in the Big Ten. A replacement is unlikely to fare as well. Besides with Jett leaving, he can refocus on building and coaching a team that wins in the Big and getting his rotations right.
Wild stat: for all their regular season success, Purdue has never been to the Final Four. Even during their heyday under Gene Keady (after whom their court is named), the Elite Eight was the best they could ever muster.
Uhm . . just flat out wrong. Lost in the 1969 final to UCLA. Made the Final Four in 1980 (I think they lost to UCLA then also).
Yes, they lost a not-so-good UCLA team in 1980. I was there!
Then they crushed Iowa in second-to-last third-place game. So... their last game in a Final Four was for a game that was phased-out forty years ago.
Just happy not to be Rutgers. Imagine running a whole campaign around how you were snubbed from the Big Dance only to get trounced out of the NIT in round one. To Hofstra. At least Purdue beat Hofstra.
Apparently the OP didn't watch much Michigan basketball this season. It was . . not fun.
Purdue dramatically overachieved. Won both the regular season and tournament title. The average hoops fan might only remember this loss, but they won't. And they shouldn't.
Purdue’s. Hanging two banners. Two big ten titles. Give me that over winning the NIT if that were to happen.
I'm with the "2 banners" crowd. Yes that loss sucked real bad for them, but conference championships don't happen so frequently that you can just ignore them, especially when you win BOTH the regular season and tournament titles.
Have you seen the end of this Vanderbilt game????
I think I'm going to go with Purdue's season now that we've completely pissed away the NIT too.
Purdue was weak in one game. We've been weak willed in damn near every game we've played.
I’d rather be reborn as one of Michael Vick’s dogs than experience another season like Michigan did in basketball.
After the cherry on top today against Vandy, gimme Purdue
Different game, same story.
At least Michigan lost in typical fashion.
The obvious answer gets more obvious. We led by 8 with less than a minute to go.
Checking back in after the Vandy choke job.....still Purdue.
Purdue gets to hang banners.
I think the Vandy game has decisively answered this question.
Are you serious?
