NCAA Tournament Open Thread Day 3
I’m just going to leave this here for all my admirers. Sorry I call it like I see it. I just wanna thank Purdue and Rutgers for making my case for me.
So you inaccurately predicted Purdue winning their first game, and you have a pending IU prediction for a game that has not happened yet. Very odd flex.
You are correct that Purdue lost earlier than I predicted. My post wasn’t meant to “toot my horn” about that. There’s loads of athletic departments that think the quality of big ten basketball come tournament time is a joke. Rutgers and Purdue proved them correct. I threw in my personal predictions to show I kind of agreed with them. This hurts big ten teams going forward. A team like Rutgers on the bubble will get left out in later years. In case you’re wondering that’s bad for the Big Ten overall.
I responded to that post by pointing out that the Big 12 is by far the best basketball conference right now and will only get stronger with the 4 new teams coming in. And beyond that by any metric the Big 10 is the 2nd or 3ed best conference, battling the SEC. But there's little evidence that the SEC is taking over. For example, Alabama getting the #1 seed this year is offset somewhat by the fact that preseason #4 UK stumbled into the tourney as a 6 seed.
The Big 10 hasn't been good this year but other than the Big 12 every conference has looked pretty mediocre.
He also said the SEC was becoming the power of basketball yet both those teams he has losing to non SEC teams.
didn't Penn state just curb stomp the sec team that made it to the sec championship game ?
Seems this post should wait. If the conference get 3, 4 teams to the Sweet16 and 1 or 2 beyond...and we win the NIT....well, you've just made a 2nd bad post.
Michigan has made the championship a few times in recent years as you’ll recall. Other conferences still think Big Ten basketball is a joke. The people who make the decisions matter, not me. And I’m trying to share the people who matter will continue penalizing the Big Ten because a 1 seed like Purdue gets beat by a team their favorites to win over by 20+ points.
let’s, see, you picked against purdue and indiana, so now you’re some sort of savant about what they”people who matter” think. child, please.
Hahahahahahahahahaahahaha yeah. You got it buddy. I don’t even know why I share stuff here that I do. I think I’ll quit.
Question about heckling etiquette. What is your code that you follow when trying to create a home court advantage. I ask because honestly Crisler is an awful environment most games relative to other venues. People look at me like I have a third eye for yelling. I yell things like “come on” when officials make a bad call. My only real rules are not to make personal attacks or use profanity. I was asked at the MSU football game this year to not yell at players because a defensive player was on the sideline doing his stupid chop, so after Michigan scored I yelled good job #34 keep chopping (I do not remember the players number just used 34 as an example). I am curious what others thoughts on appropriate vocalizations are when attending games.
Looks like Furman blew their was in round 1.
Kind of like Michigan
Happy for Brian Dutcher, he's got a really hard working group out there at SDSU
Maybe we could bring him back.
putting aside whatever distaste for the programs, duke v. tenn could be a heck of a hoops game.
Duke for me is less hated than every SEC team, including Vandy (now)!
the best all-around athlete i every played football with had been a 4 yr starter at vandy as a safety. great guy, smart, and could play just about any position on the field other than a down lineman.
Duke starts 4 freshmen and are able to play fundamentally sound basketball. They are a fun team to watch.
But they just went from up 19-11 to end the half down 27 to 21, a 16 to 2 run and complete collapse.
It helps when those four freshmen are (!) the incoming #2, #3, #4, and #23 players (source: https://247sports.com/Season/2022-Basketball/RecruitRankings/?InstitutionGroup=HighSchool/).
I realize not every coach (like Calipari) could get them to play solid ball, but Scheyer started several yards down the track in this race.
Aside, it's not as easy to dislike Duke these days now that Coach K is gone.
Anyway, down they went today.
Tennessee plays a very aggressive and honestly bullshit brand of ball.
I was watching the game with my dad this afternoon, and it reminded me of playing pickup games of basketball where the rule was no blood no fowl. Many times in the first half players or both teams got knocked down painfully on a drive to the basket with nothing called.
Let’s feel some underdog fever… Princeton, Penn State, Northwestern, and Maryland.
Bring on KAOS…
Can anyone come explain how Auburn was seeded into the Birmingham, AL location for rounds 1 and 2?
No rule against it. They aren't hosting. Didn't exactly protect Houston, the 1 seed in the region which makes it surprising.
I do know Iowa and Iowa State could have been sent to Des Moines, but Drake (as host) could not. They protected Kansas and Texas from that.
Don't think I am winning my office pool at this point, so officially now a Princeton fan.
Princeton showing out is pretty cool. Nice to see something go well for those Ivy League kids for once in their lives.
Musselman makes it all about himself 😒
He is an ass, but the man can coach.
Some shirtless white trash dude coaching Arkansas is almost too stereotypical to be true.
I recall a certain football coach around here going shirtless. The phrase “white trash” is in poor taste too. Racial stereotypes aren’t cool even for white guys
I mean did Harbaugh do it on national tv right on the field? I mean I agree we don't need the stereotype thing but I do not care who is doing that we do not need to see a coach doing that right on the court.
I think lots of coaches and people have taken their shirts off at various times . I don’t recall Harbaugh stripping down on the sidelines at the Big House to wind up the crowd.
Shirt off is the new coach celebration I guess
Holy shit!! Go KOAS
WTF Mussellman, I do not see a grown man coach taking off his shirt on the basketball court, peak trashy right there. For a guy called Mussellman he really doesn't have muscles to show off either.
Ugh, if Auburn beats Houston and UK wins, the freaking SEC would have 5 in the sweet 16. I cannot take them becoming a dominant basketball conference as well. Hopefully Houston and K State take care of business
It’s all about who wins, NCAA Basketball has enough parity that one conference will not be completely dominate for long periods of time.
Honestly might be the worst bracket I have ever filled out.
I would imagine a lot of people are saying that.
I suppose so, a 15 seed in the sweet sixteen and if Houston can't turn this around 3 number one seeds at least not even reaching the second weekend.
Hometown Evanston boy Blake Peters having a game for Princeton.
Princeton is ballin'
Another 1 seed goes down. In the battle of the “Kansas-es”, AR-Kansas wins.
Princeton needs to close things out. They are up 21 with four minutes to play.
Bring on the KAOS…
Another long-time pre-NIL cheater (Kansas, after Arizona and Duke) bites the dust. You hate to see it. Kentucky is still around. UNC didn't make the tourney.
All 8 or higher seeds comprising the final four, come on chaos gods, let's do it.
Auburn by ten over 1 seed Houston - at the half.
I noted this is an earlier comment, Auburn is playing about 110 miles from their campus. It doesn’t seem to be a fair draw for Houston. But, it is the NCAA.
All year it felt like there wasn’t any one dominate team and there wasn’t even an elite tier of teams. The tournament is backing that up. Anyone can lose to anyone.
Jesus Mizzou this game has been over for awhile, just let it go. Flat out obnoxious at this point.
