SIAP: I really hope Caris has a "crackhouse" game tomorrow night
This is my first post, so be gentle. I just read an article about John Groce not even reaching out to Caris after Groce left Ohio for Illinois. Its ironic how quickly these guys go from promising you and your family all types of things to not being able to extend the courtesy of picking up the phone. I hope Caris comes out tomorrow night in Champaign with a chip on his shoulder like Jalen did 21 years ago.

Seriously though, I hope we wrap up the outright title tomorrow and Caris goes for 30.

What's the beverage of choice, Red Balls?
(hummina hummina hummina hummina!)
I smoke rocks
PB & Crack sandwich, anyone?
Go Blue!
Trust me, if you've ever visited. You would never confuse the two.
Good looking out. Thanks
I'd prefer to win this one easy.
I'd like to take this time to thank Coach Groce for his "gross" incompetence in the handling of the LeVert situation. As they say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure." I, for one, am happy that he botched this royaly, so thanks coach!
We cannot afford a slow start tommorow. I think we win but I prefer the game be over by the 10 minute mark in the second half. The Krush will be fired up. They think they are on the bubble....LOL
My two big takeaways:
Michigan offering him a scholarship even though Beilein says a lot about he respects his assistant coaches and Burke's coachs' input.
Groce going to Illinois certainly happened in large part to Ohio beating Michigan in that brutal tourney game. It almost seems like a straight line can be drawn from that loss to Caris being in the Maize and Blue.
B1G Champions
I hope he lights the house up.
Long range
Mid range
and short range.
Incredible ~ According to the article linked in the OP:
LeVert currently ranks in the top 20 in the Big Ten in eight categories
- scoring
- assists
- steals
- 3-point percentage
- 3-point field goals made
- free-throw percentage
- defensive rebounds
- minutes played
And your first post implies Levert is somehow tied into crack houses? Can't wait until your next post in 2020.
I do believe you've missed the point.
of the stereotypes associated with crack houses. The article does not even mention crack houses so I am confused how it came to be in the OP's title. Now if he was talking about Rob Ford, I am good with that.
and you don't pick up on a Fab 5 reference? The Illinois student section chanted "crack house" to Jalen Rose after the bust at a party he attended. Jalen promptly went off for 23 points.
I understand the reference and connotation, but using the "crack house" incident as an analogy to another Black Male athlete at Michigan can come across as steretypical, racist, and ignorant.
I am a black male that grew up on and idolized the fab five. My usage of "crack house" has nothing to do with race at all. It has to do with Caris leverts relationship with groce, Illinois, and the connection with Jalens experience in Champaign. Jalen's experience in Champaign fueled one of the best performances of his college career. It would be fitting if Caris put on a show and leads this team to an outright B1G title against the man who did not have the courtesy to extend a phone call to him.
I don't think I alluded to Caris being involved with crack or any drugs for that matter. This over sensitivity to race is what dilutes actual racist acts and statements. Most fans that remember the game or even read or watched fab five are able to understand the connection that I tried to draw, without race even crossing their minds.
Plus for any that missed it, it only takes the effort of scrolling down two replies to learn the source of the reference.
Like I said I understand the reference. I'm just saying it has potential to reinforce a steretype.
By that logic, black people should never eat any watermelon or fried chicken whether or not they actually like the stuff. Because if someone sees them do it, it could reinforce a stereotype.
If I'd known back then that losing to OHIO would net us an all-B1G player, I'd have been way cooler with it.
Groce has a great track record, and seems like a great, young basketball mind. He obviously screwed the pooch by not extending an offer to Caris.
Glad he didn't! Go Blue!
