Plans with no March Madness
It surprised me, but that loss actually felt like it took a weight off my shoulders. Michigan did not have a particularly good basketball team this year, and that, thankfully, is a rarity. This time of the year is typically reserved for day-drinking during basketball games, but with Michigan out, I really am not going to care about the tournament. And I’m broke! So no travel planned. So to those similarly situated, what’s the plan.
1. Short game- we are gonna get a thaw here soon, let’s get those wedges out early.
2. Work- Usually work on the Penske file all of March. I can turn this around now! March can be my come back month.
3. House of the Dragon - I gotta watch this thing at some point right?
Gonna be a weird March but it will pass.
This season didn’t go our way, but let’s not get carried away. We have become a bit spoiled as far as the tourney goes. Eventually we were going to have to sit one out.
We’ll be back. Go Blue.
I feel like it's really popular to look down on Bryce Canyon in favor of Zion, but I thought it was spectacular and nowhere near as crowded as Zion.
Sunset Crater is just outside of Flagstaff and is a landscape unlike anything else I've ever seen. If you have a couple of extra hours, I think it's worth it to drive around.
Thanks. The more I read about Bryce, the more I'm intrigued. Thanks also on Sunset Crater, looks cool on google and I hadn't heard of it.
Full disclosure, Zion is magical and if you only had time for one, I'd recommend Zion (although try to get there early to park in the park, and also not get stuck waiting an hour for the shuttle at the visitor center). But I also think Bryce is a very unique experience with some of the best vistas in the National Park System. And I don't like people that much, so there's that too.
agree 100% - bryce is incredible.
What is the best part of the desert? It’s the oasis, right? Lake Havasu has The London Bridge, the mountains, the palm trees, the beautiful expensive AF boats. Spring break is a zoo.
Sedona is probably the most naturally beautiful city in the continental US.
I would stop by White Fish Mountain Ski Resort to do some skiing. Use to be called the Big Mountain ski resort when I use to go there in the late 80s/early 90s, just west of Glacier National Park.
I'm going to build a gym inside my barn. Might as well get that done by April when (hopefully) the weather starts to turn.
I despise March Madness. If Michigan isn't playing, I have no interest in it. I can't stand seeing teams that couldn't even finish in the top 4 of their conference getting to play for a national title. I cheer Michigan whenever they play, but the moment they are out, I stop watching. Those of you that enjoy it, I get it. But for me, it's just pointless without Michigan.
Think of all the commercials you’ll miss!
Agree completely. It's a failure of the Michigan basketball program to not get into the NCAA tournament, plain and simple. The bar for the program is high and this year's team fell short of where it needs to be. I do think the players battled hard and made many games closer than they might otherwise had. But a lot of unfortunate circumstances converged, along with questionable roster management that torpedoed this season early on. Howard and staff will have their work cut out for them in the off season to get things back to where they need to be next year. First and foremost will be convincing Dickinson, Bufkin, and Jett to come back. Hitting tge transfer portal for another guard will probably be necessary as well.
More like March Sadness, amirite?
Travel soccer.. Will be 60 degrees one game Then 34 with snow/ rain mix the next.. March soccer should be out law.
We'll still do some brackets I suppose, but I doubt I'll watch many games until the final four. Just check the scores in the morning, mark off the brackets and hope I can beat my 12 year old.
you think you're pensky material?
i'd also like to correct some commenters - basketball is not done for the year. there's another michigan hoops team (with two all-B1G first teamers and a second-teamer) that could absolutely make a run.
Thanks you. Came here to say this! Watching the WBB team!
Is "Pensky material" similar to being sponge worthy?
I'm with the OP re: weight off my shoulders for Michigan to survive and advance. Plus: Baby Translator arrives sometime in the next 7-10 days, so more important things are imminent on my end.
I’ll still watch because it’s entertaining. My spring is same as always.
1. Get chainsaw out and clean up property, trees that fell over the winter, etc. chop and stack wood for bonfires.
2. Golf
3. Start planning summer projects (building a tv stand for daughter, build a dresser for son last spring)
4. Golf
5. Get toys ready for summer
6. Golf
7. End up driving all over to visit family and friends and having no free time, except golf, until December.
2,4, and 6 sound like winners 🏌️👍
Root for Northwestern!!!
I'll pass. Can't stand Collins...
That's like three quarters of the coaches in the Big Ten.
Put on a mask and change the color of the tie and you wouldn't know which coach it was.
Same here. I like NW as a school and Big Ten rival but Collins is one of those extremely annoying Duke try-hards from the peak Duke try-hard era, when mediocre players like "Wojo" flopped and got charges called on the opposing team.
Nice thing about the tournament is the upsets. I'll still pop in.
My son goes to Northwestern, so I will "transfer the flag" from the sunken ship that is Michigan over to Northwestern.
In Basketball.
Not Debate or Tennis or Theatre, but in Basketball. For the NCAA Tournament.
Un-freaking-real.
My daughter goes to The Ohio State University. I am not transferring any flags unless they play Staee.
Well, you're in luck!
I think I'll distract myself by heading to AZ for some spring training baseball.
I'll still watch the tournament like I've done all the other years Michigan was bad at basketball. But at least I can properly ignore the 10:40pm or later tips and not worry about what stupid work meetings are scheduled during Michigan's game.
If Michigan hosts an NIT game I'll probably take the family depending on dates/times of games.
Now that we're here, it will be nice to watch march madness without being stressed about our team. Can just sit back and watch great games
Find a wife. Get married. Have kids.
That would be an epic march
Retire in April.
Gross
it’s march 9th. better get crackin
Good Luck!
World baseball classic. Women's bball. Maybe the weather will improve and we can get outside a bit.
It will be more like March Mad-As-Hell for us.
I will still watch, NCAA tourney is fun regardless of whether we're in it or not. Admittedly, UM being out will also allow me to remove my "easier pathway" bias and be more objective when I'm putting money down on teams for bets!
House of the Dragon was interesting, just watched the first season recently on an HBO Max free trial. I get that they needed to lay the backstory for the Dance of Dragons, but it was still strange watching a season where pretty much every episode took place months or years later than the episode before it. Remember when people complained about GoT speeding up time in seasons 7 and 8? Try having an episode take place 10 years later than the previous episode, with at least some of the main characters now replaced by older actors/actresses...
I have no interest in March Madness without Michigan. I'll do what I normally do this time of year after March Madness and before boating season; try to learn the guitar that sits dormat in my closet. Maybe the habit will stick this time around who knows
Doesn't really bother me. I watch football. Lost interest in basketball long ago. Easier just to be a casual fan.
Imagine if they gave us a playing game lol
We don't even deserve an NIT play-in game.
Yeah I’m with you…won’t watch at all. It’s not anger or sour grapes but the whole “beat event of the year” you hear on every channel hasn’t stood the test of time for me.
I actually REALLY wish it did. It’s definitky a “me thing”. I’m much more of a UM sports fan than an all around sports fan these past 3-5 years.
I’m super bummed how this team panned out and although we saw flashes, they are what they are and what we thought they were by mid year.
After a tough winter I am looking forward to Spring football bits how the death star is operational! Inject it into my veins!
Get ready! The Spring football game is now only 22 days away. There's something good to look forward to.
I plan to go on Spring Break with my family without concern for scheduling our fun time around UM Basketball.
Although the 2022 UM-Tennessee game at a Bahamian bar with locals and my family is an experience I will never forget (all the wait staff were "huge Michigan fans"... for the tips).
Enjoying the tournament still, just differently.
My plan is to send a strongly worded letter to Juwan for team March Sadness:
1. jugs machine 100 catches without a drop every day before you leave for entire team
2. free throws 10 makes in a row every day before you can leave gym for entire team
3. 6” aggregate leg/arm lengthening surgery for all guard/guard adjacent players
4. 4 or more dribbles in place in 1/2 court offense = run for rest of practice
5. Failure to stop ball or lose your man on D = run for rest of practice
6. Spend minimum of 1 hour/day with Sherrone Moore/Grant Newsome regarding body position, controlling your man, and boxing out
7. Hire aneurysm of leadership control assistant
8. Attend MJ you miss 100% of shots you don’t take seminar
Kthx
