Dickinson Dissociates Himself from Podcast Izzo/Hitler Comments

This seems like a good idea.

"Ann Arbor — Michigan center Hunter Dickinson said he was part of a decision to remove a published Barstool Sports podcast in which one of his co-hosts compared Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo to Adolf Hitler."

I understand this, but not fully understand.  So is Hunter a guest on the pod, and the comments were made by the Barstool asshats before/after Hunter was on?  Neither the OP, nor the DetNews article clearly describes what happened.

Hunter is a trash talker on the court, but I can't see him making comments like this.  I'm glad he quickly disassociated himself with it, though...

It's his podcast and one of his cohosts said it.  It's also not clear if he was actually on this episode (can't say I tune in, he says a bunch of dumb stuff on there...guaranteeing win over Arizona State by 20, trashing Wisconsin, etc.).

This paragraph did make me chuckle.  I mean, was it necessary?  Ha.

"Hitler and his accomplices systematically murdered 6 million Jews in Europe. Izzo is a Basketball Hall of Fame coach with one national championship and eight Final Four appearances."

I'm reminded of a movie called "The Unexpected Bar Mitzvah" (if you hate Jews and love Jesus or Tim Tebow, this movie is right up your alley). A Jewish teenager learns about the Holocaust, which is definitely late for any kid but especially Jewish kids. The whole movie you wonder when they're going to drop the facade and go into outright Holocaust denial, but it doesn't happen. I suspect they forgot to film that scene.

Seriously people are way to flipant to throw out Hitler and Nazi labels. Glad to see Hunter recognize this and quickly move away from it.

I also get he likes to be the vilan, but not sure some of the stuff he says on his pod is great for the team or program.  Opposing fans are going to bring it anyway, but have to think they will have a little extra juice when Michigan comes to town.

This is the sort of bad judgement grey area where I find it hard to judge college athletes.  On the one hand it's easy for grown adults to judge anything affiliated with Barstool as puerile garbage (and thus know to avoid it), but on the other hand 18-21 year old males tend to be especially attracted to puerile garbage.  Hopefully Hunter learns from the experience to be careful who he is seen publicly associating with.

If you are in a place where you need to specify that you "disagree with the hitler comments", then I think its time to re-evaluate where you are.

Not a great headline - even if its to say "im not a part of that"

Glad the media is getting to the bottom of the important stories! The context of the statement was that Izzo treats his players like a dictator. Still shouldn’t be comparing anyone to Hitler.

I'd also just generally not go on any Barstool podcasts (I guess  "Pardon My Take" (which seems to at least understand they're a national brand and can't be complete idiots) isn't that bad), but at this point it's clear that particular pock on sports media isn't going anywhere.

Anyway, I guess it's a good think his is backing away from it but that's literally the least he could do.

Yeah, I long ago stopped visiting the site and listened to PMT a couple years ago when they had Harbaugh on, but it was run by an absolutely ogre and seems to retain that sentiment even with new management.  And their school-related twitter feeds I sometimes come across are run by, bar none, the fucking dumbest, most awful type of fan possible.

Yeah, this requires larger action than "Izzo isn't remotely comparable to Hitler" which, of course.

Hunter styles himself as someone who wants to be active in getting attention (and money) & be a personality outside of the court, which is fine, but that comes with responsibility -- he needs to disassociate himself completely from that clown organization.

His on court behavior is pretty annoying too. Its one thing to talk shit, its another to complain about ever single call on you and do at least one hook and hold flop to try to get a call every game. He is good at basketball but I don't like watching him all that much even on Michigan. If he was at duke he would be grayson allen level disliked

Thanks a ton, detnews.com, for that important bit of context. I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about until I read this part of the article....
