Thank you Cade for righting the ship out of the depths of the deepest darkest seas of 2020! You have a place in Michigan football lore forever! I will root for you anytime your squad isn't playing your former squad! Good luck

I hope he goes to Oregon State. I admit it, I like the Beavers, but they are also just a competent quarterback away from making some noise in the Pac-12 (look up their passing stats in their win against Oregon). Not too far from home in Reno. Make it happen.

Best of luck and well wishes and thanks for all you've done and all of that...but pretty curious timing for a team captain to enter the portal before the regular season is even over.  The portal doesn't even open up until after Championship Week.  What is the rush?

Division I Council approved in August new transfer window dates for when players can enter the portal. Instead of being able to leave a school at any time, players now have to enter the portal within set dates. The first window opens the day after the championship teams are selected, which will be Dec. 5, and closes 45 days later on Jan. 18, 2023. There is also a 15-day spring period from May 1-15.

Maybe you're right, but that is not how i read the portal window rules.  Sounds to me like there is no activity allowed until after Championship Week.  So no potential spots would be filled until after next week.  Could be that he just wanted people to know he's out there and available.

Yeah the way the rule is written, he can’t even enter the portal until those dates. So this amounts to him announcing his intent on entering the portal.

So while no schools can contact him, this does allow schools an extra week to scout him and decide whether he’s a fit at their school or not and determine where he falls on their list of priorities

I had a feeling that this would happen. (I am not a prognosticator.)

But Michigan was going after Carr & Moore, and then Davis is on the horizon, which looks very promising.

TY Cade for all of your efforts and TEAM play.

TY for helping to beat osu last season.

Nothing but the best of luck to you.

I only wish you could have waited to see how the current TEAM will do for the remainder of this season, and you be a part of it.

Okay I'll say my quiet part out loud. Voted a Captain and was given the game 1 start. Get hurts. Awful for all.

I am so appreciative of what he did last year and for this program, but why not wait till after the game next week? He was voted a Captain and now he's left the program and won't be with the team presumably? Neg away...

Honestly, if Cade has mixed feelings about the team and how everything played out at this point, I don't blame him at all.

Losing the starting job and the injury was a rough, rough hand. And that's not even mentioning the drunk students who booed him.

I want him to have tremendous success as QB1 somewhere else. Whatever he needs to do to get that done he should do.

Bad look for a Captain. So does he still get a B1G ring if we beat Purdue?  Does he get a ring if we win 2 CFP games?  He should be on the sidelines for all of those games as support for all of those who voted him Captain.  There is plenty of time to see where to go next, I'm sure he's had people fielding calls for him since the Hawaii game.  I'm okay with his transferring, good for him to be able to find a new opportunity and not  be penalized for doing so.  I just think as Captain it's not a good look.

Saturday doesn't happen without Cade.

But this was predicted literally since the final whistle against Georgia; the loser of the QB battle would transfer. That's ok and it's good for both parties. Michigan gets a roster spot, Cade gets to go where he can play.

And he *can* play.

I only hope that he gets to stay with the team through whatever run is left. He deserves it.

I’ll accept the downvotes, but I would like to speak my mind.

A) i respect the hell out of Cade and am a huge fan after last year. I wish Cade nothing but the best. I hope he kills it wherever he goes (other than if he plays Michigan)

B) I can’t help but to wonder if a captain should hit the portal when they lose their starting job. I could understand if he was a potential draft pick and needed a place to showcase his abilities for a final year before a draft, but unless I’m way off base, Cade isn’t going to be a pro. So, he’s leaving after getting beat out of his starting job after being named captain, and to me, a captain is supposed to be all about the team.

Proceed to neg.

He can't play anymore due to injury. He's not staying here. He waited until the regular season is over. Now, with teams closing their seasons, it's time to start looking for the next spot. They're already looking for their next QB, after all.

We *knew* he was going to do this.

I would like him to be able to stay with the team until he leaves and I hope he will. We've seen examples of this before. But Cade is doing what is right for him, and it does not hurt the team here.

I won't neg, but I will correct you - Cade did NOT leave when he lost the starting job.  In fact, he was seen on the sidelines during a few games cheering on the team and speaking with JJ.  Once the extent of his injury required surgery, he went to go get it done and has (presumably) been rehabbing since.  Your post implies that he just bolted, and is so wrong you do deserve the negs.

The absolute best time to enter, or declare entering, the portal is now.  He won't be the starter here next year, the team is capable of moving forward without him, and he can play somewhere else in the Spring.  I have zero doubts that he spoke with coaches, friends, and his teammates before making this decision.  I also have zero doubts that Harbaugh is behind him 100%.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with McNamara transferring. He should do that because he wants to play. But he’s also demonstrated pretty clearly he’s not the team-first angel many idealize him to be. On several occasions last year he spoke somewhat negatively about McCarthy, while McCarthy always spoke very positively about him.

This year, his attitude was that he couldn’t understand why there was a QB competition in the first place and once McCarthy was named the starter, he’s stayed quiet and, as far as I know, hasn’t yet made any supportive statements toward McCarthy or, for that matter, the team, which I find strange for someone who was voted a captain. Contrast him with how Ronnie Bell conducted himself last year.  Hopefully, he’ll make some kind of announcement now that rectifies that, but it won’t erase what came before. It’ll be interesting to see where he goes.

Not sure how this board feels about unsourced rumors, but I have it on good authority that Cade was very engaged behind the scenes until they learned that his injury would require surgery and rehab.  He's a really good dude and handled a very difficult situation with grace.

I get being pissed. I probably would be too in that situation. He is a COMPETITOR. But, he handled the whole situation with so much grace and class. I still am mad he got booed earlier in the year.

Cade McNamara was one of the key pieces that saved Michigan football from sliding further into irrelevance. He will forever be a Michigan Man.

This 10X.
He also helped prep JJ for the role last year and showed leadership when JJ would make a big play. Truly a keystone in our culture change after 2020.
Big thanks to Cade, congrats for earning a degree from UM, and really excited to see him win the starting role for next year.

Wouldn't a "COMPETITOR" stay and compete? Transferring because he lost the starting job is inconsistent with "Those who stay will be champions".  Forever grateful for his work last year and wish him success in the future. Also grateful for those who persevere through competition and make teams better; in football and in life.

BoFan called me an asshole for saying thank you and goodbye to Cade when he announced his surgery. I'll say it again- thank you Cade, farewell and best of luck. We'll always have 2021 when you ended the drought.

Without Cade coming in to that 17-0 Rutgers game who knows how crazy the fan base would have gone.  Then to come back and lead Michigan to its best season since 1997.  He helped the Harbaugh Era survive and ended OSU domination ... he's one of the most important players in Michigan history

Had a chance to meet Cade, and Ronnie Bell, on a flight out of Detroit over the summer. I shook his hand and thanked him for the 2021 season, and especially for beating an Osu. He was very gracious as I kind of 'old man fanboy'd out'. Anyway, I will root for Cade the rest of my life. I hope he finds a good spot to land and balls the eff out (except if he's playing Michigan).
