Good Evening My Fellow MGoBloggers,

I’ve seen her live multiple times, and each time is a different experience. I love when she plays requests. She can really make a song take on a new identity in covers (see Losing my Religion by REM or Bonnie and Clyde from Eminem).

Watching a large chuck of the audience leave when Alanis Morisette came on as the headline for her at Pine Knob was a great experience.

Fuck, man. I listened to the whole album, and suddenly I'm 16 again. Now that I'm in the space, a few more nostalgia kicks:

  1. Pixies, Doolittle
  2. TV On The Radio, Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes
  3. The Flaming Lips, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots
  4. Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes
  5. Interpol, Turn On the Bright Lights

And listen, about those bitter songs you sing? They're not helping anything. They won't make you strong.

Evengelicals - The Evening Descends

Maybe near-perfect because I dislike the first SONG after the intro, but after that, it’s a fun distorted (indie I guess?) concept album.

The Cars - Candy-O

Absolutely loaded with beautiful pop music, but The Cars, who were an Ann Arbor band for a spell before officially The Cars, show more teeth than their later, softer stuff.

Sparks - Introducing Sparks

An album that arrived in 1977 as punk music went global, that is a funky ode to The Beach Boys. It’s both loving the style while mocking it at times. A lot of people hate it, but I like the music and it never fails to make me laugh. And that cover portrait is gold, just like all of the Sparks covers.

John Prine - Diamonds in the Rough

It’s his sophomore album, and while it’s far from his most beloved, I absolutely love it from beginning to end. It’s darker than the rest of his largely deceptively cheerful catalog. Rocky Mountain Time really hits me every time.

John Prine - German Afternoons

Not really my style of music, but Prine gets through to me. The perfect music for blowing off a Saturday afternoon of chores for a few beers. Talk Dirty to Me in Hawaiian was added to the album later, and it might be controversial by today’s standards, but I laugh every time.

Thanks for including Chicago. I wore out both Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago II back in those days. And pretty much all their stuff prior to Terry Kath's tragic death was good.

Traffic is another great band and I love both John Barleycorn Must Die and Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys (in that order).

Some Girls (almost perfect)

I'm not listing the artists, because if you don't know who they are you are woefully uneducated.

An old school person like me.  Close to the Edge is an all-time favorite along with Selling England by the Pound.  I have both of those in 5.1 hi-def and it’s like hearing them for the first time.

Some adders:

Beggars Banquet - Rolling Stones

Entertainment! -  Gang of Four

Brothers - Black Keys

Violator - Depeche Mode

Benefit - Jethro Tull

Everybody Loves a Happy Ending - Tears for Fears

Master of Puppets
The Downward Spiral

I kind of think live album's are cheating, because they are essentially a greatest hits album.  Metallica's Seattle (I think) set from Live Shit: Binge and Puge, is certainly excellent.  AC/DC Live is also a definitive rock album.
