JJ Gets NIL Deal with Local Car Dealership
Glad to read about some NIL action. The deal was brokered by Valiant Management Group which was founded by alum Jared Wangler and they've also signed Will Johnson.

This feels very Tuscaloosa- of which I fully approve. Let them make their money, let us win our games!
February 4th, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
If it's Tuscaloosa-ish, or Texas A&M-ish, then he'll make an amount of money that no business can ever make a return on investment from.
Because that's not the point. It's just a way to funnel booster money by grossly overpaying relative to what the endorsement is actually worth.
Overpaying is the new oversigning.
Eventually they will crack down on this, but until they do, aim the money cannon and fire away.

Crackdown on it? Maybe if its a Big Ten or Pac12 team. Other than that they wont touch any of this.
February 5th, 2022 at 12:08 PM ^
If buy cracking down you mean if the NCAA makes rules and then the schools that self report get in trouble I'm with ya!

Honestly with NIL it feels like there could be a shot at keeping both Cade and JJ one more year.
I don’t know cades degree status but I’d try to fast track a masters, see if I can keep making some NIL money, and then transfer on great terms after next year.
Hell I’d borderline advertise that I’d stay at UM but looking for a major NIL deal. You may get someone to pony up some serious cash.
February 4th, 2022 at 9:03 PM ^
I think that's the likely outcome. My bet is both stay next year, and whomever loses the battle will then transfer.
February 4th, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
The crazy thing is that because of the Covid year, Cade - who will be in his fourth year of college - will only be a sophomore in eligibility.
February 5th, 2022 at 8:40 AM ^
Exactly…he doesn’t actually lose anything…or much. Especially if he continues to get NIL money. And nobody will fault him for getting beat out by a guy like JJ and roughing it out, embracing competition and growing and he’d still have 2 years of eligibility.

Always happy when student athletes are well compensated.

Pssshh Ohio state was doing this a long time ago. Pryor to this.
February 4th, 2022 at 9:20 PM ^
It's just nice that we can do it now, openly, without being slimy. I mean, we've always had a little slime, but not at the SEC/OSU level.
February 4th, 2022 at 9:28 PM ^
Boom! you win the internet today.
February 4th, 2022 at 9:45 PM ^
I see what you did there dot gif.

Take a bow.
February 4th, 2022 at 9:17 PM ^
That's great for JJ. And we know a significant portion of it will go to charity as well.

"Hi I'm JJ McCarthy and I drive a Buick" cue the Buick theme song.
February 4th, 2022 at 10:13 PM ^
“That’s a Buick?”
February 5th, 2022 at 7:22 AM ^
wouldn't you really rather have a buick?
for us older types who remember these ads.
February 5th, 2022 at 8:42 AM ^
I'd definitely rather have THAT Buick.
As an aside, I hate those "That's not a Buick" ads with an irrationally hot fire. THE CARS LOOK LIKE FUCKING BUICKS. THEY ARE THE MOST BUICK, RENTAL-CAR-ASS LOOKING CARS IMAGINABLE. DON'T PISS ON MY LEG AND TELL ME IT'S RAINING.
February 5th, 2022 at 12:52 PM ^
Yep! Or a 442 or GTO - that is, if you were in the GM camp. A few Ford crazies in the old neighborhood. Oddly enough, no Mopar fans to be found near us, which was odd...
?

What did they have back then, charger/challenger/cuda?
February 5th, 2022 at 3:43 PM ^
Yes. IIRC, across Dodge and Plymouth: Road Runner, Charger, Coronet, Dart, Super Bee, etc. They threw as many combinations together as possible looking to sell volumes. Needed a score card to know what featured what. Decent motors, though.
But.
Like every muscle car of that generation? Brakes were an after-thought, resulting in "holy crap, I'm gonna die" moments. ;-)

He worked the deal himself when he borrowed a car to drive to Minnesota to get coach to stay
February 4th, 2022 at 10:08 PM ^
This is great. Now when are they going to start selling stick drawings for $50K a piece. I need to redecorate the man cave.
February 5th, 2022 at 10:09 AM ^
Don't over pay. I can do stick drawings for $40k a piece.
