MSU Game 10/30 - Night Game Possible?
So I am sure I am not the only one with plans Saturday night Halloween weekend. Is it possible we have to play this at night? I'm really hoping we don't as it will screw up my plans. I've seen there are weird rules about when we can or can't just curious if this could be a night game.
Looking ahead, if everything keeps going well for both teams it would certainly be a compelling TV matchup. Are there any other potential matchups TV would prefer? I'm just trying to convince myself that one of the biggest games of the year isn't going to totally screw plans I've had for months lol

I doubt it. osu vs penn state and World Series on that day.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:54 PM ^
Thank you for this reply. I don't see OSU V PSU being less compelling moving forward and no one wants to duel the world series. So you're saying there is a chance I get to watch the game, then go out? I would love this scenario.
October 4th, 2021 at 3:26 PM ^
Yes you can go out trick or treating young man.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:57 PM ^
This is the question I've been wondering about. Would the Big Ten Network field a night game when there is a Big Ten night game on ABC?
Conversely....if Iowa beats Penn State this weekend and Us and Sparty run our respective tables what is the more interesting matchup for ABC, two undefeated archrivals who would both probably be Top 10 or two one loss teams?
There is definitely a possibility we end up in that ABC night game spot if Penn State loses this Saturday.
October 4th, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
Nobody outside EL cares about Sparty and shoulder chips.
OSU-PSU much more compelling.
MSU is a regional program no matter their record.
October 4th, 2021 at 5:54 PM ^
Undefeated Michigan is more compelling than 1-loss OSU/PSU. The Wolverines will drive the ratings for the game. Throw in another top 10 team and ppl will be glued to the TV sets.
October 4th, 2021 at 2:04 PM ^
Screw it. You can get married on some other day. She'll understand.
October 4th, 2021 at 2:15 PM ^
Which countries are playing in this "World Series" thing that you mention? Sounds exciting! I hope our country does well! USA!
October 4th, 2021 at 9:00 PM ^
Usually about 27 countries compete with players spread throughout the league. But it is truly open to all citizens that are good enough, a true world event.
October 4th, 2021 at 2:28 PM ^
Who watches the World Series?
October 4th, 2021 at 3:05 PM ^
Boomers
October 4th, 2021 at 4:06 PM ^
I do. It's not must-see-TV for me unless it's teams I care about, but even then, I'll watch the series if I can.
October 4th, 2021 at 5:21 PM ^
My wife. It's so goddamn weird. She watches no sports, other than the WS.
October 4th, 2021 at 5:42 PM ^
wtf? what is the logic? Is she just joining you when you watch? Would she watch it unprompted if you weren't watching it? Does she have a rooting interest?
This is fascinating.
Also, whats a World Series? Go USA!
But seriously... I'm curious about the first part.
October 4th, 2021 at 7:51 PM ^
I can't stand watching baseball on tv, so definitely not joining me. And it's every year, like clockwork. No real rooting interest unless Detroit were playing, so yeah, it's weird man. I don't question it, she doesn't give me any shit for all the football and basketball I watch. I just don't understand it.
October 4th, 2021 at 6:24 PM ^
Is that the only reason she is weird?
October 4th, 2021 at 7:49 PM ^
didn't say she is weird, I said "it", the act of only watching that event, is weird.
October 4th, 2021 at 8:30 PM ^
Does she have any other acts that are weird?
October 4th, 2021 at 10:21 PM ^
Are you attempting to get sexually suggestive about someone else's wife, on the internet? I hope that isn't what you're doing...
October 5th, 2021 at 8:51 AM ^
Your mind certainly took a leap that I took no part in. Rest easy and enjoy the WS.
I was thinking more along the lines of....maybe she watches reruns of Hello Larry. Or she eats stale pork rinds. Anyway....
October 7th, 2021 at 9:12 PM ^
I'm sorry, it just seemed odd. I've been a bit tense lately.
Yes, actually she has many strange (to me, anyway) hobbies. But she definitely thinks the same about me.
October 5th, 2021 at 8:02 AM ^
So she reads the blog and knows your user name...

Wouldn't it be even more likely that PSU OSU is the noon slot because Fox gets first pick on the Big Ten slate, so they're probably going to pick PSU-OSU (Assuming both keep winning) over UM-MSU, and their game is almost always in the noon slot?
October 4th, 2021 at 4:05 PM ^
Fox doesn’t always get the first pick of the week, they just get the first pick of the year, which they always use on Michigan-OSU).
The assignment process beyond that is nebulous, but it’s been publicly confirmed by Fox execs they don’t get the first pick every week. (https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/ct-big-ten-espn-fox-sport… - sorry, don’t know how to embed links)
So it’s possible OSU-Penn State will end up on ESPN. I’m pretty sure it was in 2018.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:52 PM ^
Isn't there a two (2) night game quota in the B1G? I could be oversimplifying.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:55 PM ^
I'm not sure what the rule is but Staee has played in 3 already @NW and hosted Neb and WKY.
Is it late enough in the year for M to say no?
October 4th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
The dual agreement part of the night game provision doesn't go into effect until last three weeks of the regular season. I also don't know that there is a limit to the amount of night games a team can play in, just a minimum number that they have to host over a certain period of time.
October 4th, 2021 at 2:07 PM ^
Here is a decent Cleveland.com article about "tolerances" and Big Ten night games/road night games.
- They're decided between athletic directors.
- Each school picks their limit or "tolerance" level of night games.
- Tolerances only apply to games "controlled" by the Big Ten.
- The tolerances were written into the most recent Fox/ESPN TV deal.
- The November thing isnt even mentioned here which causes me to think it more of a guideline than a rule.
- All of it appears to be pretty fuzzy on specifics.
- Urban Meyer might not be the man of integrity we all once thought he was.

October 4th, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
HEY! I think you may have made up that last bullet point! (Not that I disagree...)
October 4th, 2021 at 2:20 PM ^
You're right. Busted!!!
I never thought he was a man of integrity.
October 4th, 2021 at 9:19 PM ^
Minnesota was a home night game in November. November 4, 2017. Got delayed by thunderstorms too. If I remember right it didn't start until after 9:00 PM?
October 4th, 2021 at 2:22 PM ^
I'm sick of Michigan getting hit with everyone's night game. Play the game at noon before those slack-jawed gumps are able to stumble over from Dimondale, Dewitt and the Cedar Village Apts.
October 4th, 2021 at 3:30 PM ^
Disagree, we can man up and beat 'lil brother. Plus, it will be more entertaining to see all the couch fires at night as we leave east landfill at night.
October 4th, 2021 at 6:03 PM ^
Who is everyone?
We have one this Saturday, is there already another?
October 4th, 2021 at 1:52 PM ^
Should make the trashnados more spectacular with all the candy wrappers blowing around.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:55 PM ^
Condom balloons too.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:53 PM ^
You know what else went down on a Halloween weekend against Michigan State.....?
This.
Screw your plans. Eat Sweettarts and Laffy Taffy some other weekend.
Or don't.
I don't really care what you'll be doing. :)
Go blue.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:55 PM ^
That is the thing, I'd pick the game over my plans. I can go later, it would just be a big pain in the ass for various logistical reasons.
October 4th, 2021 at 2:14 PM ^
And it was October 30th, exactly. I was there. I was in the opposite end zone of where the majority of epic things happened but I was there.
Thank you, Braylon.
October 4th, 2021 at 3:53 PM ^
I feel your pain as I was also in the opposite end zone. Still really cool to be there though.
October 5th, 2021 at 8:07 AM ^
I was in a random bar in the Thumb (near my grandparents place) on a pheasant hunting trip with my brothers and some cousins. That bar split into Michigan and MSU bases and it was loud and epic! I'll never forget that night - what a game!!
October 4th, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
That 3:30 start is plastered into my head because it was a decently warm day so I wore a t-shirt (and maybe shorts?) to the game. But by the end of regulation the weather had cooled way down, and by triple OT, I was freezing.
My friends and I went to Ashley's to get dinner and celebrate, and while they waited for the food to come, I ran down to Steve and Barry's and got a Michigan sweatshirt. Here we are, 17 years later, and I think of that game every time I put on my favorite sweatshirt.
October 4th, 2021 at 5:26 PM ^
100%. My sister and I went to that one, and we had a great barbeque before we left. I had brought layers, but by the end my sis had signed up for a credit card at one of the kiosks to get a free beach towel to wrap around herself.
October 4th, 2021 at 1:57 PM ^
Reaction when Michigan wins by three scores:
"Well, it's not that big of a win. This isn't a good Spartan team."
October 4th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
Plan on your plans. Don't worry about the sparty telecast. See it at a normal time or don't.
Put another way, you'll likely be happier years from now reminiscing about that wild Halloween you planned on for months, vs "remember watching some game on TV."
Put a 3rd way, unless doing so invokes a Michigan curse (like it would with me), why not DVR the game? Have your holiday experience, and unless you get spoiled, have the same spontaneous TV experience, with the benefit of skipping commercials.
October 4th, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
Worse take i've seen in a while. 0 percent chance you could make it out without the game being spoiled. Don't know why you would even want to try though.
October 4th, 2021 at 7:31 PM ^
My Uncle does it all the time. Shut off your phone notifications and you’ll be good.
October 4th, 2021 at 2:24 PM ^
Dont listen to deceased and former country crooner Slim Whitman. He's almost 100 years old, dead, and probably not even a Michigan fan.
I'm considerably younger, alive, and can firmly say that every great memory of my life was based on a sporting event I watched on TV, and not some dumb party with some dumb people you'll probably never see or talk to again.
Rose Marie called Slim, she wants you to get your priorities straight and watch the Michigan game!
October 4th, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
I bet it will be the FOX noon game.
