For those who don't know, he's the #1 player in the 2022 class and is generally considered one of the best QB prospects to come out of high school in a while

makes sense ...

I just admire that OSU is willing to do what it takes to win.
Why are you so complacent? 15 years ago the programs were even, look at where they are now.
That's pro football. I come here for college football. It's the parity that makes college football so exciting, and it's been slowly disappearing because of the 4 or 5 teams that function like pro teams. Adding more money into the equation isn't going to make the sport better; it's just going to elevate the have's over the have not's even more.
Was there parity in the glory days of Bo, when the conference was known as “the big two and the little eight?”
No, it isn’t the parity that we’re missing. It’s our competitiveness (lack thereof) having squandered our position as a “have” to now being a “have not.”
You're just looking at the Big Ten; I'm looking at all of college football. I remember when Nebraska, Penn State (both pre-Big Ten), USC, and UCLA were the big powers. The PAC-10 was an exciting conference. ASU was a power. Iowa was a power back when I was in school. My point is that there were many teams that could've ended up at the top in any given year. It wasn't always the same two or three, and it wasn't because boosters were buying players cars.
I also think you're forgetting about the John Cooper years, when it wasn't just Michigan and Ohio State and then everyone else. He had a few good years in there, but overall there was more balance in the Big Ten back then.

UM unused to have the will to win. They were always the Buckeyes biggest threat. From the late 60s thru the 90s, no matter what, they always played tough, with emotion, and played to win. I don't care what the rosters looked like. From the looks of this board, it seems like it is divided from the "snooty" we are better than everyone else academically crowd, and the fans that are rightfully critical of the total collapse of a winning football culture. I remember a lot of UM football teams that had no chance of beating OSU, and would find a way to win. Where is that mentality now? You guys have an elitist administration problem, pure and simple. Where is the mental toughness from years ago? I am old enough now to have seen all of it! You guys need a change of administration and a total culture change. You can neg me if you want, but this is a longtime Buckeye that would actually like to see you guys get your shit together...

Sorry, wrong thread, has nothing to do with Ewers....my bad
"Why are you so complacent?"
There's complacency, and then there's recognizing as an adult that endlessly bitching and pissmoaning about something on a message board will have exactly zero impact on the thing that's making you unhappy.

one. hundred. percent.
my "complacency," or lack thereof, is completely without impact on anything but my own mental health. i also (mostly) choose to not be a whiny, annoying shit. i don't always succeed, of course.
cuz it's a game dude. played by college kids. with no real tangible effect on my life or yours. how people get so bent out of shape about this is beyond me.
I find it really really odd people get so upset about a collegiate sporting event, to the point they make comments like yours about other fans "complacency" and get literally angry about the teams performance.
What the fuck am I gonna do about it? Like if I am super non-complacent the team is gonna suddenly beat Ohio State every year? LMAOOOOOO.
I’m not angry, I just don’t see how it is so wrong that fans like myself expect more from a program spending $45,000,000 a year in football expenses. OSU for comparison, $52,000,000.
Michigan football brought in $126,000,000 in revenue, there’s nothing amateur about those figures. Expecting a cohesive team, modern offense and competitive culture should be reasonable. The RESOURCES are there.
If Alabama is compared to an NFL team, how does Auburn continue to upset them every couple of years? To expect Michigan to play that role against OSU, seems reasonable.
note: Auburn has won 2 of the their last 5 against Alabama, 4 of their last 11.
The only thing amateur about those figures is where they rank in regards to the University of Michigan' overall budget and expenses. The athletic department is a drop in the bucket compared to what the higher up administrators have to actually worry about.

The whole world is not football. In some cases, it's barely 5%.
You can expect whatever you want to expect
But I guarantee you no one wants to win more than the coaches and the team, and no is trying harder to win than the coaches and the team. They don't owe you anything, so why have expectations of them?
The point is all your desires, wants and expectations don’t change a thing. You’re not a coach. You’re not on the team. Reread what Don posted above.
I just don’t understand why you would have “expectations” of something that has literally no impact on your life.
Also, IDGAF about Auburn or Alabama or whoever. That also has ZERO to do with Michigan games.

Auburn is recruiting the same area as Alabama. The south. And truly, Osu is barely keeping up. Bama made them look like a MAC school in the championship game. Devonta didn't play much in 2nd half, which is when Olave decided to show up and the lead got cut to 14 briefly before Waddle limped out there for some big first down catches.
Mississippi State was the best team in the SEC in 2014. Ohio State squeezed by Bama by a score thanks to 3 picks by Sims, and 230 rushing by Zeke. A good Saban defense would never allow that. Since then, we've seen 3 lopsided losses by them in the CFP
Its kinda how Sparty can get us occasionally if they muck it up. Auburn will always have players that could have played at Bama if they wanted to wait.
I would never use the word "admire" for anything about OSU. Fuck that.
But I would like better QB development and utilization from the Michigan offense. Yet another way we are behind the curve.

Our last advantage in the rivalry has been our exceptional tradition of NFL qbs. OSU has never had one be a difference maker after college. Not one. This is why McCarthys future is so critical to the rivalry because if they begin to get pro QBs then it'll be a problem.
So you don’t have to even finish high school now to get into college??? What a joke this is anymore.
He accumulated enough credits his first 3 years of HS where he only was lacking an English class - which he just finished recently - to graduate.

More like tic-tac-toe
His choice to qualify and leave early if he can, and he can. That has nothing to do with college coaching strategy. It’s called good luck for OSU.
But so what—he still has to play and prove he’s as good as advertised. He still has to beat out a 5-star in his new class and a high 4-star in Stroud, at minimum. And we already knew we would be facing a high level QB from OSU, who has in its last 5 years finally gotten consistently top rated QBs coming there way.
UM cannot rely on hope or bad luck to OSU to beat them. The mission has to be the same, and the desire and actions to live up to being their best shouldn’t be dictated by one player, plus/minus. Every player has to be accountable for his assignment, and to the play.
Every player has to execute every play, and that’s how elite players are elite—whether a 3, 4, or 5 coming in to college.
Is it really good luck for OSU? I'd rather have a year between him and McCord. One is likely to leave sooner now. I think OSU was forced to agree or lose him.
Use of this tired cliche does not necessarily qualify the poster for International Chess Federation status. (Now, add "3D". . . )

Of course he is.

Can’t blame him for wanting to get some money. Can blame him for hair.
That hair is probably getting him paid lol
OSU has a major back-log at QB now. Gotta' believe there will be portal activity. The only question is how soon?
Ethical/Legal question...
As this young man is still in high school (and was during any of this), how much shenanigans went on to convince this kid not to stay in High School AND reclassify to an entirely different graduating year?
On a scale of 0 to 1 million dollars he was already promised - how are even kids still in high school amateurs in the land of NIL?
So OSU accepts high school dropouts?
I don't see this as good news for Ohio State - their 3rd string QB will be a 5 star (and possibly their 4th string too). Some people would say that is great but I don't see how they keep these guys on the roster.
If McCord or Ewers wins the job by the end of the season, they will lose their other 3 QBs. Nobody will be willing to wait 3 years for the starter job.
So your stance is it might not be good news because their stable is too full of 5 stars and thus some will transfer..... No shit. They have that luxury and will (I imagine) continue to get 5 stars and take their pick on who to play. I don't remember them being particularly downtrodden when Burrows left.
Listen, I am not saying that OSU should have said "no" to Ewers or that a program wouldn't want to have an abundance of talent.
I just meant that Ewers re-classifying from 2022 to 2021 wasn't great news for them. They would have been better off with him in the 2022 class to spread out the 5 stars and make it less likely to lose 2 or 3 at once.
He was already committed to OSU so it is not like his reclassification it changes their overall talent level when looking out over the next 3-4 years.
As far as Joey B., he won a National Championship and they didn't. Would they have won had he stayed at OSU? Impossible to say for sure, but you could certainly make an argument that his transfer may have cost them the championship in 2019.
OSU cant catch a break with QBs amirite? Ill believe it when i see it. And if they loss all three the one theypick will be a 4 time heisman winner

Boy, this place really brings the good news rapid fire these days, eh?

To your point, no one posted about their 2nd highest recruit de-committing yesterday.

Sunshine Sam is writing up an article to say Michigan has a legit shot as we speak.

We do! I hear academics are important to him.
If not for that damn elite Alabama engineering program….

Guys like you crack me up. You're starved for news and info, but when it doesn't please you, it's a recruiting analyst fault.
August 2nd, 2021 at 12:10 PM ^
So you'd be happier if either Sam didn't share this information or we didn't try to recruit a player that OSU probably wanted?
I would certainly hope Michigan goes after the kid and that it would be reported that the offer was made. Just making a joke about how sometimes Michigan's chances with a kid can be exaggerated.

Jacksonville (FL) 2022 five-star cornerback Jaheim Singletary reported an official scholarship from the Michigan coaching staff on Monday morning, a potential sign the Wolverines will attempt to enter the recruitment of the former Ohio State verbal commitment

may as well offer the 4-star TE that decommitted from OSU a week ago too
