HELL YES!

Hail yes!

I had almost forgotten that he played for Michigan. If/when the Red Wings are elite again, Larkin should be in his prime.
January 13th, 2021 at 2:43 PM ^
I'm an insufferable optimist but I think it's "when". Stevie Y has got his shit together. Maybe 2-3 years to solid, another couple to elite.

Nice.

After a respectful captain-less gap after the legendary run of Yzerman - Lidstrom - Zetterberg, it is awesome to have a Wolverine with the C!

Great news! Thank you goblueram. They waited long enough but I'm so happy that the day has finally come and the season begins tomorrow! LGRW!
January 13th, 2021 at 10:55 AM ^
Great news! Larks is such an unselfish player and person.

Lets Go! Yzerman wanted him to earn it, that speaks volumes to Dylan

Someone please photoshop the quotation marks out of that image.

Awesome - well deserved.
Please get rid of Blashill next.

Please get rid of Blashill next.
Silly take. Wings are lucky to have a guy that kept the dressing room together though a craptastic season. No coach would do much better with that roster.
January 13th, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
Why? What would that accomplish? It’s been a shit roster that is almost completely devoid of talent. Changing the coach doesn’t do anything.

It's great seeing someone from Michigan excelling.

Penguin fan here (ducks)
Given the willingness our GM has for making trades, lot of Penguin fans when suggesting trades with Detroit have Larkin at the center of them. Hell of a player you guys have!

The new Stevie Y.
January 13th, 2021 at 12:15 PM ^
Wow, that's amazing! Is it normal for someone so young to be named captain? (I say young because I was at Umich with him and I turned 25 this year for the second year in a row.)
January 13th, 2021 at 12:46 PM ^
It worked for Stevie.

IMO it is fair to say that it is not typical for someone that age to be named captain. I think it is typically a more veteran player with respect in the locker room, experience with adversity, etc. I think with everything ,the modern NHL is finding itself more accepting of younger captains these days (as, in truth, the entire league is now getting younger). Right now, I believe 26 NHL teams have named a captain. Quick napkin math gives me a mean age of 31.38, with the oldest being 38 (Mark Giordano of the Calgary Flames) and the youngest being at tie at 24 (Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers and Dylan Larkin of the Red Wings).
Now, that is not to say that young captains have never happened in the NHL. Off the top of my head, McDavid, Sydney Crosby (Pittsburgh), and Gabriel Landeskog (Colorado) were all 19 years old, I believe. Yzerman himself was 21 when he was named back in 1986.

In hindsight I wish I had bought this, but it was like $200.

Sweet

Makes sense, and think he'll do a good job as a captain.
January 13th, 2021 at 2:34 PM ^
Good luck Dylan! Hope he and the Red Wings find some success in the coming seasons. Getting excited for the next come up like the Pistons in 2002 or Tigers in 2006.

LGRW and good for Larkin, a well-deserved honor!
It was so cool to see him at Yost last hockey season when he circulated a bit around the ice arena and sat with the Children of Yost for a while.

Hail yes! A Wolverine is Captain of the Red Wings, congrats Dylan
January 13th, 2021 at 5:13 PM ^
Kudos to Larkin. May he and the GM lead the Red Wings back to playoff and Stanley Cup contention.
