OT: Maderna Covid Vaccinating
My community, quite by surprise, had established a vaccine site. The vaccine in my state is administered by the county health department. I found out from a city email when it was operational.
important items to note. The protocol are for those over 65 to obtain the vaccine. My state requests that those over 75 receive the vaccine first. Medical front line folks have their own procedures for obtaining, in my community, the volunteer FD and EMS are encouraged to also obtain the vaccine, as they do not have their own administrative procedures. There is some ambiguity regarding teachers, I would think teachers should attempt to obtain unless your county/state declares otherwise.
I bring this to the board’s attention to encourage those over 65 and/or are a front line care provider/first responder to research with your county health care office to learn the protocol in your respective area. What we don’t want is a mad rush to the administration sites. As the most vulnerable amongst us receive the vaccine, we will be well on our way to stomping out this thing. That said, there are two doses, a month apart. Continue the safe social distancing, et all. We are close to kicking this plight. God Bless! Go Blue.

I had the Pfizer vaccine last weekend. Very comparable to a flu shot - no big deal. I’ve heard the second one is where people tend to have more symptoms. Anyways, best wishes to everybody for a healthy 2021!

My mom, father in law and mother in law received the vaccine. I’m so relieved and a washed with emotion. I hope everyone can put this behind us.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:30 PM ^
Are they all first responders? I'm all for anybody getting it as soon as possible.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:52 PM ^
My parents are in the old camp. My father in law is an elected official so he has to interact with the community at larger frequently.
December 30th, 2020 at 10:09 PM ^
Your father in law is Joe Biden?

My wife is a physician, she got the Pfizer vaccine a week ago. To be honest, it kicked her in the ass for 30 hours. But she absolutely is glad she got it, she will get her second dose, and she is thankful for those that were responsible for the development.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
Maderna?
That stuff will make you crazy.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:35 PM ^
Only the funky cold one will.
December 30th, 2020 at 8:09 PM ^
Heard the Moderna one is even more effective.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:28 PM ^
Make sure they don't leave yours out on the counter all night before they give it to you.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:28 PM ^
I’m excited to get my vaccine. I hope things progress quickly so myself (not a front line worker and am only 41) can get it ASAP.
well done to those who have already received the first dose.
December 30th, 2020 at 10:52 PM ^
This is one of the most frustrating reads I’ve had in awhile. Thanks.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:28 PM ^
"My state requests that those over 75 receive the vaccine first."
That's doing it correctly. Get the most vulnerable vaccinated first along with the first responders.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:44 PM ^
where on the priority list are monkeys?
asking for a (hairy) friend.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
Ha! Simians are immune.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:22 PM ^
It’s tough to prioritize something like this, but I actually think the CDC priority order that prioritizes those in long term care in the first group with medical workers and then considering others over 75 in the same tier with front line workers like those in grocery stores and transit is fairer. If you are over 75 and not living in a group home, you have lots more options to protect yourself then those frontline workers have.
December 30th, 2020 at 8:40 PM ^
They prioritized the US Congress over frontline medical workers and those most vulnerable.
December 30th, 2020 at 11:06 PM ^
Not sure why that means that 75 year olds who can make a choice not to be exposed to Covid should be prioritized in front of grocery workers and others who keep the country running but have to expose themselves to covid for hours every workday.
December 31st, 2020 at 9:25 AM ^
You protect the most vulnerable and they are the old folks. I getting older, but I'm not taking a vaccine right now that could be given to an even older person.
Part of my rationale is from what I learned in the US Army. If you are in a leadership position you get whatever the benefit is last. That means those folks you are responsible for get to eat first and get medical care first.
Congress getting the vaccine first is typical elitist BS. Sure, the old fucks in congress can get their vaccination, but the younger, less at risk ones should wait until after their elderly constituents get theirs.

At this point, based on reading the article, I would recommend getting the vaccine if you have the opportunity to do so. Distribution channels have been set, it does no good to refuse the vaccine so someone else can get it, if that person isn't able to actually get it and the vaccine then expires. I'm not saying jump in front of others, but don't go out of your way to refuse.

Is this vaccine intended for Madea and her immediate family?
But seriously, this is good news and thanks for posting!
December 30th, 2020 at 6:35 PM ^
Got it today!
December 30th, 2020 at 7:28 PM ^
Awesome! I wish you and all great health in 2021!
December 30th, 2020 at 8:10 PM ^
Nice. I got Pfizer today.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:35 PM ^
According to my doc, A healthy person should never get a vaccine like this one or the seasonal flu. And he’s not anti vax
December 30th, 2020 at 6:54 PM ^
Just so everyone knows, "family doctors" and pediatricians, with few exceptions, are those who scored lowest on their medical boards.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:15 PM ^
Hey jackass-the physicians in my pediatric office received our first doses last week and our staff will get theirs in early January.
Furthermore we applied to be an administration site for the Moderna vaccine.
I would gladly compare our median intelligence or professional scores to yours.
I do acknowledge your pizza delivery ability far outstrips mine.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:27 PM ^
Cool story. How much ya bench?
My point is that "muh doc says" when talking about their GP's advice about something way outside their field is typically a red flag. I probably could have done that without an implied dumping on pediatricians.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:51 PM ^
If you were trying to make that point, that is what was implied in your previous post. The dumping on pediatricians and general practitioners was done quite directly
December 30th, 2020 at 8:15 PM ^
No one in the medical field knows more than family physicians and internal medicine specialists. They have to know every system of the body, not some nook here or there.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:24 PM ^
I don't think we need to dump on family doctors. This specific one clearly gives medical advice that isn't based on medical science, but I imagine most of them aren't like that.
December 30th, 2020 at 10:30 PM ^
Also possible: this “doctor” is a figment of the poster’s imagination.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:31 PM ^
So says the medical school rejection letter champion.
Getting the vaccine = Getting back to some semblance of normalcy.
Pediatricians are doctors and most deeply care about their patients. Why is there so much hostile craziness towards people with expertise?
December 30th, 2020 at 8:05 PM ^
The old saying is that children aren't just little adults, but their doctors are
That's horrible advice, btw. Healthy people are often the reservoirs for illnesses that make the more vulnerable sick.
December 30th, 2020 at 10:12 PM ^
My spouse graduated first in her medical school class. She gave the commencement speech at their graduation ceremony. She's a family physician. She's surrounded by some amazingly smart and talented family physicians in her practice.
December 30th, 2020 at 11:39 PM ^
I’ll keep that in mind when I need my Percocet refill... jk
Though dude what an obtuse comment. Everyone knows psychiatrists are in the last percentile.
December 31st, 2020 at 1:02 PM ^
Grats monocle on one of the worst takes ever on this board.
December 30th, 2020 at 6:56 PM ^
I'd recommend changing doctors because your current one is a fucking idiot.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:51 PM ^
The medical field isn’t immune from colleagues who allow their personal opinions override the medical science. The one consistent violator of mask wearing at the grocery store in our small village is a doctor. And a husband/wife pair of doctors who were known to be anti-mask both got COVID and brought it to their mother/mother-in-law who lived with them. She died.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:01 PM ^
He might not be anti-vax, but he also doesn't seem like much of a doctor either.
Or he just wants his patients to get sick so he can charge them more for treatments.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:08 PM ^
Your doc is a destructive moron who is giving bad medical advice that is contrary to what medical science recommends.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:15 PM ^
I forgot how much I enjoyed the gracious, articulate exchange of differing points of view on this topic in particular. This sub thread is artwork in motion. Pure nostalgia.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:18 PM ^
Respecting "difference of opinion" is one thing when we're talking about whether to fire a coach. It's another thing when someone's ill-informed opinion puts human lives at risk. His doctor is reckless and is endangering people's lives. He/she is giving bad medical advice that isn't backed by medical science.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:38 PM ^
Not all docs are going to agree on treatment and care decisions. I can't even buy toothpaste that is recommended by 5 out of 5 dentists. Best I can buy is 4.
December 30th, 2020 at 7:52 PM ^
The 5th one makes more money pulling teeth.
December 31st, 2020 at 8:07 AM ^
What a stupid f ing comment XM. There should be no “differering points of view” on this topic.
December 31st, 2020 at 9:01 AM ^
isn't the real truth that anybody that disagrees with you on any important issues, not just this one but really anything, isn't just stupid, but f-bomb stupid? you are the fount of wisdom and grace and this is just another shining example. what do you suggest as an appropriate sanction for those that disagree with you? should be something pretty serious, don't you think?
December 31st, 2020 at 2:34 PM ^
God you’re an insufferable prick. Your holier than thou act is tired.
December 31st, 2020 at 4:13 PM ^
your response is awesome. do you have any idea how ironic it is? outstanding.
