You have to go here and register for the chance to be able to pre-order https://www.playstation.com/en-us/campaigns/2020/ps5-direct-pre-orders/.
That site has been active for about a week, so you may be shit out of luck at this point. Sorry man.

I signed up because I wanted to see their process first hand. Curious to know when it will be available and how much it's gonna be. It's gonna be interesting.

Will PS4 games work on it
September 2nd, 2020 at 3:21 PM ^
Yes, PS4 games will work. PS2 and PS3 on the other hand.....

Yes and so will the PS4VR Headset and its peripherals

I won't preorder the system until I know the price point which is unknown at this point. I rather wait because there could be issues early on and have Sony patch it up so the first time I buy it, it shouldn't be a big issue.

The starting base price for the console, although not announced, is widely believed on various boards to set you back 5 bills.

I'm just gonna wait 'till the price goes down.

Why not wait for black friday?
September 2nd, 2020 at 3:02 PM ^
I highly doubt there will be discounted next generation consoles on black friday. There might be bundles, but the consoles are brand new and likely won't be discounted.

Damn. That was what i was going to wait for.

You can’t buy a ps5 until Michigan beats osu in football
September 2nd, 2020 at 2:37 PM ^
Ah so X-Box it is then if you want it before this Christmas.

I once would have been all over this, but since I still haven’t played some of the great games from the PS3 era, let alone the PS4 era, I’ll happily buy a PS5 a year or two after it releases. Freaking responsibility and family, always getting in the way of endless video gaming.

Whenever I see "Diaries" in the right hand margin, I'll think about this post.

Never buy a first gen Playstation. Wait a few months until all the glitches are hashed out.
September 2nd, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
Never buy a Playstation whatsoever.

Meh, the PS4 launch was fine for the most part, certainly in line with any normal CE product. The biggest launch flop was X360 with it's three rings of death. They also did an awful job supporting the issue with using refurb units (which all had the same issue) to replace, which themselves failed. I went through 3 units before finally getting them to send me a new unit.

I'd wait a year for the price break in summer/fall/BlackFriday '21 and for bugs to get hashed out and a few more games to get published.

I, too, am constantly looking for information about pre-ordering an Xbox...or even a fucking price at this point. We're in September and there still isn't a price. I think it's ridiculous. I am buying a console no matter what, but I would at least like to prepare myself for the ass kicking my bank account is going to take when I buy this thing.
September 2nd, 2020 at 5:11 PM ^
Just set aside $1000. You’ll be fine.

A lot of rumors out there that they will both be 499, with the cheaper digital only versions for 399. I don't believe those rumors but they are out there.

This is probably the first gen where I won't buy a launch console. The game line up is pretty lack-luster for both. The extra power is cool and the demos they've shown with the new Unreal engine are jaw dropping, but I also doubt we'll see that level of in game performance for a while.
